I was brought up with them in the gang...The Alderman glamour boys..Skinheads come Sudeheads..we were fighting 50 year old hell angels ended up in the old bailey..it was worth it....Madness..film...before we waz we..episode 1.
Does anyone actually like this crosscutting between chat, video clip, chat, video clip, chat, video clip, chat, video clip....what a drag to watch! Dear me.
Specials are great but they don’t have the cheeky humour of Madness. Madness are great at serious subjects in an upbeat style. And the fact that they are mates - it makes their live performances such a laugh. Specials don’t hit that spot for me.
You can't knock The Specials. But they were fairly short lived. I would say Ghost Town is probably more of an iconic track than Madness have managed so far. But Madness have a massive back catalogue of consistent quality, albeit appealing to different sections of society at times. Not many One Step Beyond fans matured enough for Mad Not Mad, sadly.
What I love most about Madness is the carefree nature of their music, and utter lack of pretentiousness.
one of the truly great british bands.
