Literally my mom. 😂 She stays giving me updates of almost every Bahamian in Nassau and I’m like, “Mom, who even is that?” I lose my patience when she basically has to pull out a flow chart to show me how this person is related to me. 😂
Your mom is a 'states woman'. You know that saying: "if you educate a woman you educate a whole nation"? (by Kwegyir Aggrey of Ghana) She has institutional memory - what African societies need to keep growing and not repeating mistakes of the past. Our mothers' memories and love for these distant relatives and neighbours, their maintenance of networks and performance of 'belonging' by showing up, and teaching the next generation to know and also care is so critical to building and sustaining an Africa which is more and more drifting into a diaspora and needs to develop through its people maintaining economic socia,l religious, and political ties. Pls trust her instincts ...you are on your way to royal niches in the history of "Grusa". "We are one big family" indeed
Omg! This is me growing up. Back in the old country we belong to a minority ethnic group that consists of about 3-4 small villages that share 1 temple so they all know each other. We basically all immigrated together due to civil unrest. Ever since I was little I was going to all kind of event for people I didn’t even know. But my family knew them from the old country. I’ve been to so many funerals it’s ridiculous! My elder believes it’s a privilege to send off people to the other side😂
It’s called community, every person of colour I know does this, so your rather then weird one for thinking this is something to complain about or educate people on
