Olde School anchor handling! pelican hooks, deadman wires, round buoys, no hours of work, no ppe, no working limits. We've come a long way. Hats off to the guys that did it like this bck in the day. Its still a tough job but miles safer. Anchor Crankin rocks!

Great footage! Wow. Is it possible for me to use and share this footage on my youtube page? I share footage from all kind of activities on our ocean. Cargo ships in the 1960s till now, oil rigs, fishing vessels, etc. Of course full credit will be given to the owner of the footage. Looking forward to your reply. Kind regards. Cheers.

Doedikkehansworst - Amen ! Had myself some years of that back in the 70's-80's.
Sometimes it could be some 40-60 hours before we got that hot shower.
    Not much HSE back then.

He is doing what he is supposed to be doing, letting the captain know where the anchor chain is leading.
You don't want the chain in contact with propellers / rudders. He can't do that from the messroom. Dangerous perhaps, but by far most of us survived.

HI did this job in the middle 70s to 82 and it was a graft of a job and you did not finnish untill the anchor job(as it was known ) was done and if it was during bad weather it could have been upto 36 + hours and Depending who your skipper was you used to get a bottle of rum after the job was finnished,ok now as they have no pelican hooks to play about just as fraserjlretson said in his comment, i sailed with companys such as Seaforth Maritime and Oceon inchcape who now dont have any boats
