Actually, they most amazing thing was that Rob's voice hadn't lost any of its power. Dare I say this, he actually sounded better 25 years later. So many front men lose their power over the years. Rob Tyner had it until the end of his relatively short life. We would never get to see him grow old.
My favorite singer of all time. The only who I could really relate too. Who I felt was a brother from the distant past who came to remind us what it was all about!
Nice version of his classic song! He was older, yet never lost his amazing 'high baratone' voice. Sad to think that he passed away the next year. To the very end he stayed true to himself,
Gosh--I wished he will still alive! He was a true asset to rock and roll. Imagine all the punk and metal bands today who would be honored to have him as a guest vocalist
and he looks beyond cool in that kick ass studded leather. Wayne Kramer sang about him "he knew a little something about everything." Man, this guy was transcendent!!!!
Rob is a great frontman. Didnt pay much attention to The Five at the time, but now I realize they are part of the absolute top level of great American bands, and Rob was certainly one of the main reasons. How sad that he doesn't get more respect and recognition.
It was that bastad Sinclair that took the 5 down with all his Alinsky political crap. Never had a chance after the "kill the pigs" crap. The 5 were fab!
He took them down? They split with him in 1969. Their most successful album was released in 1968. Their other two albums came out in 1970 and 1971 and were poorly promoted. They were finished in 1972 in large part because they had no management to speak of. And there is no evidence whatsoever of Sinclair or the MC5 promoting killing anyone.
wpl Sinclair turned all of the Ann Arbor radicals against the MC5. When they played their farewell concert at Grande Ballroom there was hardly anyone there because people thought they were sell outs. Just like The Stooges, they went from being hometown favorites to being mud by that same audience... But at least people weren't throwing bottles at Rob like they were at Iggy. There's a Rolling Stone article from '72, just before they set out on their Ill-fated European tour, that gives good insight into their rift with Sinclair. They basically gave Sinclair's commune all of the money they made during their good years
klmullins65 they can take and take those greedy bastards. The afterlife treats guys like Rob to the best times, can the same be said for bloodsuckers in the present???
i agree tyner even more powerful than daltrey but this band iis so damn awful--or perhaps the five ere so so so uniquely powerful------guitarist is to kramer -what jimmy crespo was to joe perry---

That’s because he wasn’t old yet. He was singing it in a different key here though. His voice was lower.
@@ExcitedAnacondaSnake-hg8ec Tragically, we would never see Rob Tyner become an old man.

Detroit band by the name of Weapons. They had a popular song in the mid 80's called "The Rock Starts Here"
Some or all were Mugsy in the later 70s.
Is that really the Star Bar? Doesn't look like it.
