I am smitten with him too! The heart elbow patches completely elevated his already overwhelming adorableness! I would have never imagined using hair spray in making a felt animal - I'm a little shook. I love this so much. In thinking about plushies I want to make, I always go back to thoughts of my kitties I've had in my life, my whole life, and it is a dream to make a plush angel kitty representing each one them and their individual personalities! Thank you for the amazing job you did on this super cute rat. I loved watching it!
Hi Sandy, you're the winner of my extra copy of the book! Could you please email me your shipping address (within the United States) to laurenmakesthings [at] gmail [dot] com (with @ and . in the places where I marked [at] and [dot]) - you can also find that email address on my channel's About tab under Details where it says "for business enquiries" to verify that it's the right email address. Also, just so I can make sure it's you that's emailing me, can you reply to this comment after you send me the email, giving me a hint of what your email address is (or **** out parts of it, I just don't want someone to pretend they're you and get the book!). If I don't hear back from you in the next 24 hours, I'll comment again, but if I can't reach you I may need to pick a different winner.
Just wanted to see if I could reach you - I'm not sure what your usernames on other platforms are in case I might be able to reach you there. Please read my previous reply to you if you see this! 💕
Thank you So much, Lauren! He is beautiful, as is your entire video! I am so grateful for your time, incredible talent, and help in getting the word out about my new book!
Aww, yay! I'm so glad that you like the video. Thank you for thinking of me for this -- your book is so beautiful and this project was so much fun to make. I appreciate you sharing your wonderful work with us and teaching us so many things along the way. (I'm planning to make the Badger doll and the tiny journals next!)
I have your book Cynthia! I love it and can’t wait to make all the wonderful things in it. I’m so happy I just found this tutorial too! So helpful! Thanks Lauren
I love that washi tape trick instead of pins!! I made a little plush doll for my daughter when her little brother was born, and I've also made a little elephant and some birds, but if I could chose anything from my imagination, it would be a winged hippo. :)
Omg I love him! Absolutely the most adorable little felt rat I've ever seen. The detailed instructions make me think I could actually make things from this book! We've had hummingbirds visiting us regularly on our apartment balcony and I really love watching them so I think I would most want to make a little ruby throated hummingbird friend to sit on my desk at work! I would also love to make him a little dapper outfit, maybe with a top hat? Oh, or maybe multiple outfits to change depending on the season!! It would be a great reminder of one of the things I look forward to seeing when I get home from work during the week!
Happy Birthday Lauren. I wish everyone a happiest of birthday's and also I believe that no matter what age we turn in 2024 that everyone should celebrate it in any way that they want to and have it with friends and family.
this is SO cute! I always wanted to make dolls, since I've worked with felt for a while now, but I always stepped away from having to create a metal skeleton to start. but I never thought of using pipe cleaners! So clever! As an avid Ghibli and Card Capturer Sakura lover, I'd try to make either Kero and/ or Totoro for sure!
Happy 35th Birthday Lauren. I wish everyone a happiest of birthday's and also, I believe that no matter what age we turn in 2023 that everyone should celebrate it in any way that they can and do it the best that they want to with friends and family. It should be celebrated in an awesome way.
I truly enjoyed your video in the making of Ratty.. it was magical watching him come alive with your beautiful work ! I recently found Cynthia’s patterns and I am in love ❤️I have always found joy with small felt dolls … making them and using them with young children in my early childhood career. If I could pick a special one there is a special place for Stuart Little . I can’t wait to make these beautiful patterns ! Thank you for sharing your talent with us and all the great tips!!
I haven't bought them yet but there are some very cute bear plushies of some of my favorite superheros that I have bookmarked and at some point I will be treating myself to them.
Hey Lauren, thanks so much! I was on the fence about getting the book cause I didn’t know if this would be within my skill set, but it looks totally doable (with patience and lots of tea 😊).
After watching your video I immediately ordered the book and I can't wait to get started! I even made my husband sit down and watch the video with me. LOL. Gotta share my passions with someone.
That was so cute. A plush I would make (if i could) would be something of personal value to me. A plush of my 25 yr old horse. I had one made of a coon cat who passed away. The doll sits at my bedside, close to where he use to sleep. ❤️
I think after watching this video, I would love to make some poseable felt dolls like these of the characters The Littles. These felt dolls feel perfect for miniatures and I love doing toy photography. The Littles hold a special nostolgic place in my heart and it would be so cool to do a project focused on this characters for my inner child
I actually make custom plushies of League of Legends champions for my friends! I try to make them as detailed as possible, so they take forever. But I always love how they come out!
That’s so cool! I feel like plushies that detailed are best as gifts, since it’s so hard to price them (and find people who will pay what I’d need to charge). I’ve been hoping to figure out how to expand my plush line to more detailed characters and keep getting stuck there.
@@LaurenFairwx Oh definitely! It's a hard line to draw. Like, making them and pricing them there seems ridiculous, but the tiny hand-sewn details are too much for me to feel comfortable with the actual price for labor.
I gasped in delight when I saw this book. I LOVED Wind in the Willows all through my childhood, and it's still a favorite today. I also loved your video! You brought Ratty to life so beautifully and clearly, and I appreciated your commentary on each step. I'd like to make a Nancy Drew doll (another childhood favorite) in a detective pose with a magnifying glass. I'd also like to make a Bernie Sanders doll based on the iconic photo of Bernie at the inauguration with his parka and mittens.
Hi Lauren! Awesome job! I would love to make a Hagrid doll, with a coat full of pockets. These pockets might hold a small owl peaking out, as well as his pink umbrella.
I came here to see Cynthia's Ratty put together from her new book, my copy is on its way! I got so much out of seeing you make this, Lauren! I have made felt characters and animals for years, and seeing your tiny iron and the clips you use to hold the items while working on them is revolutionary to me! I am in awe of your video making and voice over. Well done, you.
Oh my goodness, thank you! This comment made my day. I’m always learning things from other makers and love seeing how they do what they do, so it makes me happy to get to share my process and thoughts with others! So glad you liked the video - enjoy the book!
Hi Lauren. Loved loved loved your post. I'm dreaming of this book as we speak. If I could make any doll I would make a little roly poly gnome with a fat belly and a pointed red had and cute fuzzy boots. Maybe a wide belt with a cute buckle. How about a pocket knife in his belt? A scraggy beard. A toad stool to sit on or maybe a tree stump or boulder, so many little accessories I could think of. Keep smiling!
Ahh I’m so glad you enjoyed it! It took a few solid days of work, but I’m really proud of how it came out. I also like being able to focus on a project like this. It takes my mind off of things when I’m worried or stressed. Let me know if you end up making one!
I am smitten with a mystery series called Shady Hollow, in which the characters are animals living in a woodland village. Like Ratty, they wear clothes. I would love plush animals in clothes from the series!
I'm not in the states, but my neice is and she is obsessed with skunks. She is turning 18 soon and has actually mentioned that she wants to learn how to make felted creatures.
Really cute and adorable video. I love Cynthia’s patterns and am looking forward to my book arriving (I already preordered). Re your question I would love an adorable hedgehog…it’s the mascot for our book club (long story) and would make a great gift for my very special friends (we are always there for each other) not to mention some good books, dinner and wine!
Not sure that I could choose just one....here is what i narrowed it down to: frog and toad from the Frog and Toad series because my grandmother read those to me, the white seal (from Rudyard Kipling's book) as that was also a childhood favorite book, Stuart from Stuart Little, or the Berenstain Bears. If I were creating my own character, a dinosaur in a tutu.
I would love to make a plush chinchilla ! I bred them for so many years; and miss them dearly (thanks to allergies I cannot have them anymore) so a plush one would be so much fun!
I’m so happy I found this video! Great job on the tutorial. He came out so perfectly sweet. I wanted to ask where you got those wonderful white cotton pipe cleaners too. I don’t really want to use the ones found in a craft store, I’m afraid they might rust over time.
I got them from Cynthia Treen -- she gave me some of her personal supplies to make this project, and I'm not sure where she bought them. They're so soft though! Much higher-quality feeling than the usual ones I've seen in stores. There's a whole section in her book about her materials and where to get them. There, she says she uses 100% cotton pipe cleaners used for cleaning smoking pipes in the larger, more plush thickness. She says "they are readily available online (sold for crafting) and in smoke shops".
@@LaurenFairwx thank you! I just got the book a few days ago so I’ll check out the supply list. I should have thought of that before I asked you😁. I have ordered the nice cotton pipe cleaners from Amazon for making other dolls, but they were only 6 inches long. Yours looked like 12 inch ones and a lot fluffier! Anyway, your little guy came out so perfectly adorable! Can’t wait to make one myself. Take care!
I just measured and the ones she gave me are 12", you're right! I bet if you continue to have trouble finding them, you could probably reach out to her on social media and ask for help. Have fun making the projects in the book!
I didn’t buy any of this felt; Cynthia Treen gave me the supplies and tools to make the project. Her felt is much nicer than what I usually get at the craft store and it looks like she sells some of it in her Etsy shop, CynthiaTreenStudio!

Hi 👋 Where do you buy the more economical felt?
I didn’t buy this felt; it was given to me by Cynthia Treen who designed this doll. I usually buy felt from craft stores but it’s not as nice as this felt (I’m not sure where she gets hers from).
Will you post some video of you singing at leakycon 2022??!!??

I didn’t film it because I was on stage, sorry! Sometimes people in the audience film and post videos.
So just wondering.....who won the book?
Sandy won! I just got ahold of her.
