Great tips, Lexie! Thanks! 😃 I like to put a GPS on almost every quad... This way I have it's location on the DVR in case of a crash. 😬 Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
If you haven't lost the drone's battery, I use RSSI and track the drone by signal strength. I found my drone 1/2 mile away using RSSI. It helps to have a directional antenna on your transmitter, when tracking.
i fly without buzzer, rssi or gps. i had an eagle micro fail halfway up my first mountain flight.... i had to run up the side of a mountain fast enough to hopefully hear the esc's beep... almost killed me hehehe

DVR is mandatory for anything FPV flying thing. Just don't purchase FPV googles without DVR. Buzzer presence in drone is mandatory too. Battery operating buzzer is very recommended - finding small crashed drone with disconnected battery in tall grass or bushes may take many hours and sometimes end with lost drone (from experience). All mentioned above is actual also for flying in near distance. It is virtually impossible to see 3" and smaller drone in grass just 10 meters away.
Haha true. Some people still have goggles without dvr or don't use buzzers at all though because "I have the motor buzz" and I mean it's worth noting such things for beginners ☺️
3.5 months in a snow covered field, found it searching everyday in the spring till one arm and props showed. Found it flying a pattern with my Mavic Platinum, gave up went to fly another way and there it was 200meters away from dvr last picture. Battery was flung away in a hard turn. Also found the battery. Lol
Hello, I found that the best solution to find your drone is Gps coordinates on your DVR. And when you get to this place than Self-powered buzzer is must have
I have just crash my drone today in a freezed river😅, hopefully dvr helped but buzzer or radio would have help in this case, swim in the freezed river was the solution😂 hopefully wasnt so deep and i could see the drone
That's actually helpful! I tried looking for some stuff on google maps and I was mad that I didn't land next to things that I saw on the way! (that would be much easier to find)
Is it possible to set date and time in hdo’s that’ll show up time stamping the dvr videos? I lost one and had to go through what seemed like 100’s of dvr videos to find the crash...
Hmmm... I really don't know... I clear the SD card every evening so it starts from 0 again and I make a self-note (on messenger) about the happenings on each flight. While re-watching just after crash it's just the newest video so... this is how I tackle that ^^"
Lost model alarm and dvr is a must. That's all you need for normal flying.. If you are that worried about long range get a tracker. They do tiny ones for birds of prey that only weigh a few grams.
I just put on new TBS antennas and I was getting outrageous range that I had not experienced before, got excited and just started flying out, and i was up in the desert mountains in Az so EVERYTHING looked the same, what a nerve racking situation!, then I flew to far, and on the other side of my car to myself.....learned not to lean on my car when flying....... then lost RX and dropped, but i was able to get over an open dry creek bed i saw so that helped :)
@@MaiOnHigh After retrofitting Diatone GT-349 with TBS Nano RX and Vista + Polar i started to wander pretty far from me because I can't see noise and bad receiving anymore. Once even didn't noticed that I'm already 500m away behind small forest :)
Self powered buzzers are absolutely essential. Had a crash into chest high grass only about 50 - 60 meters away from me and luckily I was able to find it using the directional antenna on my goggles and motor beeper when I got closer, but if the battery had ejected there's no way I would have found it. Bought a ViFly Mini as soon as I got home that night.
Very useful tips. I've used the dvr to find my whoops on my lawn. Mow your lawn before flying a micro around the yard. Vifly buzzers have saved my quads multiple times. I fly farms, so I've gone down in trees, brush, soy bean fields... I'm old with not so good hearing so I bring along electronic hearing protection. For shooting sports, not only block loud sounds they amplify normal sounds . I've also successfully used the quad finder built into the rapidfire module. Gets you heading in the right direction. Happy flying Lexie 🤓
Excellent tips Lexie!! Flew my 10" long range drone & the receiver said rx loss & crashed into a cornfield. Couldn't find it at 1st until I took the SD card & kept playing it back on where it went down & found it. Thank goodness for DVR 😊
I need to get some hellgate buzzers. I have used the patch antenna warmer colder deal to get close enough to hear the motor beeper buzzer. But the hellgate would have made it easier and delectable from a greater distance, even if the battery was unplugged. Great suggestions!
