  • Nestled against alien-like hoodoos, camping in Goblin Valley State Park is about as remote as it gets. If you're curious about the campground, we check it out for you and give our review.

    Located near central Utah, Goblin Valley State Park is a place unlike any you've likely seen before. If the red mushroom-shaped hoodoos, known as goblins, creating an almost alien-like landscape don't make you feel like you're on another planet, the sheer remoteness of the park will.
    The nearest town to the park is Hanksville, Utah - almost a 30 minutes drive to the south. Finding closer lodging is just not possible which makes camping ideal. Not only are you just outside the park, but you also have amazing backdrops of some goblins and are located very close to other amazing outdoor opportunities like the slot canyons of Little Wild Horse Canyon and Bell Canyon.
    Goblin Valley State Park campground consists of ten walk-in tent sites, fourteen RV sites, one group site, and two yurts. All campsites have elevated tent pads, a fire ring with a grill, and a picnic table under a metal shelter to provide shade.
    RV sites do not have hookups, however, there is a dump station.
    The two yurts provide a unique experience for those looking to camp in more comfort. Both hold a maximum of 5 people, have electricity inside, and are equipped with heat and air conditioning. Tables with seating are included as is an outdoor grill. There are no hookups for RVs at these sites either.
    The campground has two restroom facilities - one with vault toilets and one with flushing toilets and hot showers.
    On the campground is also a frisbee disc golf course.
    Current rates are $30 for tent and standard sites and $100 for the group site and yurts. Please check the site's webpage for changes.

    I ate at the Burger Shak last year. I thought it was really good. So many choices of burgers, great corn dogs, greasy fries with fry sauce. . .I was there on a 10 day motorcycle trip through Utah. Planning another trip right now and want to hit Goblin. Driving north on 24 past Goblin reminds me of the tidal wave scene on Interstellar. The singular butte that lasts for miles is the wave and the plateau from the road to the butte is so wide and angles down, looks like the ocean where they landed. It’s absolutely incredible. The scale is immense.

      Sounds like another Burger Shak visit might be in your future! We had to go back on our second visit to the Swell and Goblin Valley. You're right... the color and waves in the Swell definitely are reminiscent of an ocean.

    What an incredible place to camp. Stunning! I love how thoroughly you show the campsites, it’s very helpful. While it could use some updates, at least it offers flush toilets and showers. You are right, updates cost money. Such beautiful scenery. Looks like a great campsite.

      Yeah, other than a few restroom updates it really is a fantastic place. Thanks for watching and the comment! 😀

    Hey man! I visited Goblin back in 2017, incredibly odd and beautiful all at the same time. This brought back the memories of an amazing family trip, thanks for the video bud.

    We enjoyed your review. Nice in depth look at the campground. We expected to see a little of the actual Goblin Valley over the hill from the campground....since that's why the campground is there. About that odd trash can.... they need to hook up and drive that trash to Greenriver (46 miles) or Hanksville (30 miles) to get it sent to a landfill. I am pretty sure the all water is trucked in from one of those towns as well.

    • @CactusAtlas
      @CactusAtlas  3 года назад +1

      That makes sense now (about the trash and water). I had to drive into Hanksville a few times for ice, so i know how isolated these places are. Thanks so much for watching and especially the comment!

      The garbage is that tall because there are lots of coyotes out that way. They need to keep the critters out of there. I remember staying in the camp ground one night, my tent zipper was broken so all I could close was the screen door. The solid door would flap open in the wind. During the night I heard something going through our trash. Then I looked out the door a saw a coyote right at my tent door looking in at me and my family. Was a little scary. Great videos. Thank you.

    Great video! I ❤️ Stan’s Burger Shak!!

    • @CactusAtlas
      @CactusAtlas  3 года назад +2

      Thanks! Yeah, Stan’s exceeded my expectations! Honestly one of the most enjoyable meals of 2020. Well, maybe one of the only meals I had out in 2020, but still, it beats most of the burger joints around where I live in the Phoenix area. Hmmmm. The Ray Kroc in me is now thinking franchise opportunity? 🤔

    We really liked your video, we have the yurt further off the road in a couple months, might be a bit cold but we are very excited to go back. We did tent camp there a few years ago in February, cold at night, shorts and t-shirts during the afternoon. I guess its also a dark sky disegnated area, looks like you had some clear sky's, hope you had a chance to check out the night sky on your visit. Safe travels, and keep the videos coming. Not sure where your from, 8 hr drive ?, were in SLC, Utah sure does have a lot to offer. Cheers

      Hi, Jim! We are based on Phoenix, AZ so yeah... it was a bit of a drive to get up there. 😅 Thanks for the comment and please let us know about that yurt if you can. Would have loved to stay in one of them one night but I don't believe there was any availability. Based on photos it looks amazing!

    Thanks for your review, very helpful! If you had to choose a site again, would it be 4 or 18? What dates were you there? I am wondering about the end of September, but my husband hates too much heat.

    • @CactusAtlas
      @CactusAtlas  3 года назад +1

      Thanks for watching and commenting! Glenn was there at Goblin Valley the first week of August. So September should be much more comfortable. 😄 As for the sites, he said he would have preferred 18 in the end.

    nice video. just for a comparison...the florida state park system has been chosen as best in america a few times, and most of restrooms in the campgrounds where i've camped are not quite as nice as the one in the video.

    • @CactusAtlas
      @CactusAtlas  3 года назад

      Crazy! Compared to a lot of parks we've visited it was quite lacking in the restrooms. Strange! 😅

    What time of year, at site #3??
    3:24 - Oh , site #5 would be my choice, privacy,

    This is the park where that Cub Scout guy tipped over the large rock?

    • @CactusAtlas
      @CactusAtlas  3 года назад

      Sure is. Such a shame that the guy thought that was okay. So much time made that goblin what it was. 😥 We'll have a video on the park itself coming out not too far off in the future.

    Blows my mind. People complain about the dumbest things. Voices Carry. When you are camping you aren’t going to get all the luxuries of home. Shesh. If your negative about camp grounds. Stay home negatives.

    • @CactusAtlas
      @CactusAtlas  3 года назад +2

      As seasoned campers we are well aware of that. However, as someone who reviews campgrounds we feel it necessary to make mention of some things that might deter or bother others. Many reviews before this trip and after on review sites make mention of the sound bouncing off the walls more so than other places.
