The song is based on the 1953 film 'The Conquest of Everest', which told the story of Hillary, Tensing et al's successful ascent of the tallest mountain in the world, and which was directed by expedition member George Lowe. Buy the original STUDIOCANAL Films DVD here: amzn.to/VMJzI6

J. Willgoose, Esq. and Wrigglesworth sample old public information films and archive material and set them to new music. Live, the films are screened simultaneously as laptops are fiddled with, drums are pounded, theremins are wafted at, guitars are bashed and banjos furiously plucked. Teaching the lessons of the past through the music of the future.

Reading through all the comments for this band is absolutely quality reading . 52 years old only found out about this band in 2023 ❤
50 years old and ditto!
56 and found PSB 3 months ago!
Watching Mastermind recently and got 5 points by knowing that Everest was originally called Peak 15. The only reason I know this is because I’ve listened to this song about twenty seven thousand times. Thanks, PSB.
❤
“And they named it.. Everest”
*STARTS VIBING*
"Why should a man climb Everest?
Because it is there!"
For some reason this makes me smile
I literally just did the same thing
Same
The man quoted there would die on Everest
Why should everest be there? Because a man wanted to climb it
Said by George Mallory. Probably climbed Everest 30 yrs before Tenjing & Edmund. But no one knows for sure. His body was found after 75yrs in 1999.
This is one of the greatest songs off all time
It's on my September 2016 playlist so makes sense (I make a playlist for every month and September 2016 is definitely the best and always will be (unless they discover some new genre of music that beats them all).
'Two very small men cutting steps in the roof of the world'
I love this.
God I am saluting the spirit of adventure with tears of fierce pride in my eyes.
Indeed, I'm getting a bit choked up myself. I've been as high as the level of Everest base camp and found it hard to catch my breath - can't imagine what it could be like at the summit.
@@Londonfogey I've been to the top of Mont Blanc before (a little over 2km high), I tried to jog a little and before I knew it my vision was beginning to black out. It's now wonder that they needed oxygen tanks at nearly 9km up.
UP AND UP AND UP
Same here
From my bed
I listened to this while at EVEREST BASE CAMP last year, still makes me cry.. “because it’s there”
Wow, what an experience. Last year I sat in La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona for the first time, and listened to the song by Alan Parsons that I have loved from the 80s.
If I ever get to the Moon I'm listening to "Go!" by PSB!
Heard PSB on the radio the other night and thought then that this was the most original music I have heard in many a year. Putting old public information films and pathe news type stuff together with music is pure genius. A touch Jean Michelle Jarre in there I think but still brillient stuff. More of the same to look forward to I hope.
This is anthemic. I love it, and I am totally sold by the concept of no singing but great music backed by the films I was brought up on as a youngster. just because I am approaching fifty doesn't mean I listen to crap music....( in my humble....etc )
SirLimpsalot I'm 48 and going to see these guys in October.
just found this song and this amazing band, wish it happened sooner they're amazing!
Oh, you have such a brilliant listening journey ahead of you! Enjoy!
I'm having this exact moment this evening!
It’s awesome going back to this song after so many years and seeing these comments
Hillary was a Kiwi, born and breed in New Zealand, and we are all very proud of his efforts. He did a lot of great work in the regin for years after the climb as well.
a true testament to two of the greatest men ever to live and one of the best bands of all time
Amazing band, probably in my top 10 bands ever. I only add one every 5 years or so...
I hear you
Any major changes?
"A climber climbs with his guts, his brains, his soul and his feet" very powerful words
And it's true, you cannot climb without any of those four things or else you're not going to make it
@@rubene.5569 Pretty sure some people climb without a soul lol
@@lyrimetacurl0 a brain
Damn, this band is simply awesome!!
Greetings from Brazil.
one of favorite songs of all time
Glastonbury 2014 Sunday.
"Are you behaving yourselves?"
"Oh dear."
This should be on everyone’s skiing playlist
"Two very small men cutting steps in the roof of the world." What an evocative statement. The whole work is superb, as usual.
Absolutely breathtaking, both musically and visually. Like all the best music, this gave me goosebumps.
This should be more well known. Its such a tune.
This makes me cry everytime :)
Thank god... I thought I was a bit odd :)
My favourite song
this track never fails to hit me in the back of the whatever.. smashing .. love it forever
Heard it on the radio and simply HAD to bookmark it. Sweet!
Heard 'Spitfire' on Radio Caroline this morning & now I'm hooked !
Mallory and Irvine forever in the heart of Cholomunga. RIP.
This band make me feel like a kid again, just brilliant!
Stumbled across this during a shuffle on my Spotify playlist. It’s beautiful.
Reminds me of Kraftwerk
Thankyou radio 2 for this ,, not heard it before its mighty . Very Jean M G meets Alan Parsons.
Glastonbury 14 couldn't be bothered to watch Dolly Parton glad I stumbled on this good times
Huge fan of found voices and voice-overs in music. It is dramatic and pushes images across! Can used short wave radios!
doug vogel " lemon jelly" if you recall them from the 00s used to do that as well but I admit that these guys are next level.
Public service broadcasting makes any thing in history sound great
Fantastic & inspiring. Takes me back to the summit of Kilimanjaro in 2012, although Everest is a different ballgame. Respect to these pioneers and those who follow in their footsteps
I just love this music and everything that PSB stand for. Top notch!!!!
Irishman in New York here. My Saturday night walk home, though freezing, was unreal craic.
Love the sound of the snare
This feels so good, It reminds me of my trekking to Everest region!
Thanx for posting! This is Gem!
Efin amazing
Simply beautiful
I think that this is the best song that you have done
Congratulations. One of the most inspiring things I've seen all year. Only discovered you guys today and I've booked my ticket to see you in Bristol, November. Can't wait. Really refreshing and great music.
Awesome. Love this. Song of my summer.
lovely song, lovely footage
Another utterly brilliant song from PSB, they're fast becoming my favourite band/group.
esta canción es increible!!!
Chokes me every time I hear this, the perfect match of images & words, washed over with a beautiful psb soundtrack, the tears start at "2 very small cutting step........" So by the time the horn section comes in I'm a mess :) I love this and they are even better live
Amazing. still.....simply amazing. this is why life is still worth ......amazement!
Just seen PSB at the Wickham Festival.
Brilliant! The whole tent were mad fer it
Go see them live.
Plenty of people can do this in the studio but these two rock it live!
is this the greatest piece of music my ears have ever heard? i think so. yes, it just might be...
How did I only just discover this?! Sensational.
Absolutely brilliant

The band that will change have tapped into a new era of making modern music with a refreshing outlook - just fantastic - ready for the second album now - can't stop listening to I E E it's perfection but neeeeed more !!!

Truly superb.
This song is a really good discovery ! I didn't expect that ! Like I say, never judge a book by its cover.
The air is getting thinner and thinner
At such heights when you're lacking oxygen, you may think you're normal but you're not
You're moving in a dream
A dream that deludes and debilitates...
Espectacular
Absolutley correct,PSB,incredible music. The most amazing music i've heard in many many years.End of message..
i saw the picture of one of these guys in the afc wimbledon programme so made me want to take a look glad i did
Another great effort from these guys. Great!
Climbing a mountain or excavating an old world building ,or entering a lost realm, ether the way ,gr8 tune..
Long live the old world, cause it was far by far more n more beautiful 😥, and I am sad and cold ,@home all alone ,all the voices have left an I am sorrowed..I miss her and I am so sorry for my failures, plz forgive me for living a lazy drug fueled life, I c the old n hear the thought dead, the darkness is closing in ,an I am becoming pure light, I don't want to fail again, let us araise through the clouds, remember when we were in free-flight, why did we fail from grace
Best thing about Glastonbury this year. Mind-blowingly good!

Francesco Basini Sì! :) Che serata! Veramente i brividi per la musica! ... Il più grande limite del Lanificio sono le mini-birre! Ma questi ragazzi sono veramente pazzeschi! #RomaCanTakeIt! :)
It is impossible not to appreciate history and geography after watching a video and a band as well
Heard this , this morning on R2 thought I’d give it a listen again 👍
so good
brilliant stuff
The most uplifting video ever
brilliant tune and an awesome group. I lhope to hear lots more from PSB in the future. As a (rather average) climber and mountaineer, that last question and answer
'Why should a man climb Everest?'
'Because it is there'
chokes me up a bit every time I hear it - The man who answered that question was George Mallory, he died along with Andrew Irvine making one of the first serious attempts on the summit in 1924 - two of many who didn't return from the peak. RIP to all who have died on Everest
Los vi a metros de distancia en el 212 :')) la mejor noche de todas
Really touching!
6Music brings me here.
im crying
This is brilliant.
