    Clearly one of the best looking Genesis games. It looks also good for SNES standards, but there exist some even better looking games for the system, like the Donkey Kong Country series or Rendering Ranger R2.

      It really is a good showcase for the MD. Thing is that it makes the SNES port look lazy. As there isnt much done to take advantage of its extra power. Other than a few scenes have less dithering and more vivid colors. The biggest improvement is the sound. There are quite a few subtle changes but for the most part its just not very impressive for a snes port. The MegaCD port pushes the snes even further and I think is my preference over the snes for sure. As its sound is even better than the snes port. And is it my imagination or is the MD running higher resolution?
      As for the PS1 port. The snes is capable of quite a lot of what enhancements they did for that, or at least pretty close. But there were obvious media size limitations as it was.

      Roger you are or seem deluded the Mickey Mania game didn't or doesn't push the Sega Genesis/Mega-Drive console to the limit because it is 2 MB (16 megabit) game a MD game as big as 3, 4, 5, 6 MB (24, 32, 40, 48 megabits) started pushing it to the limit

      @@jasonlee7816 What has cart size got to do with it? Certain visual effects that are exploiting special states of the hardware don't always need loads of cart space. In fact the opposite is quite true. The very fact they crammed all of this into 2megs is pretty impressive.

      @@wishusknight3009if a Sega Genesis/Mega-Drive game can be developed (made) using a 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 megabit cartridge it is more impressive than a 16, 24, 32 megabit cartridge because the developer is using less storage

      The Playstation version is overall the best version, as it features Speech, better music (on par with the Mega CD version) as well as all the content from the Mega Drive version and additional extensions in certain levels, like the Mickey and the Beanstalk level.

    I used to own the Snes version, which is "the worst" of them all (despite still being good, but the loading times and missing levels are a "no go" for me nowadays). Sega CD version seems to have the best of both worlds when it comes to 16-bits versions, which is everything the Genesis has, plus orchestral music.
    The PS1 version looks very nice of course, but it seems to be a tad slower, am I wrong? Could it be that the console is playing in 50hz as compared to the other versions?
    Very nice video anyway, thanks!

    • @retrosutra
      @retrosutra  2 года назад +5

      Thanks for the comment. Yes, the PS1 version is PAL. If I'm not mistaken, it's the only one available so you can only play it at 50hz.

    • @wishusknight3009
      @wishusknight3009 2 года назад +2

      The snes port is pretty lousy in some ways. At least when they are compared side by side. Is it my imagination or is the snes port in lower resolution? The bit thing the snes has over the MD port is sound. And the MCD trounces that pretty fast. I cant help but think if the SNES had larger media to work with, that it could come pretty close to many of the enhancements they had in the PS1 version. As it doesn't really push the PS1 for much of the game.

    • @jasonlee7816
      @jasonlee7816 2 года назад +1

      @@wishusknight3009if the SNES cartridge version had better audio (sound) over the MD cartridge version it is a bit biased or it seems pointless you saying the audio in the MCD version trounces the audio in the SNES version cartridge media vs CD media that can hold up to 700 MB data

    • @wishusknight3009
      @wishusknight3009 2 года назад +3

      @@jasonlee7816 Not pointless. I am saying that in the modern age when we have the choice to play it on any system, that the MCD gives you the best of both. as the only real advantage in my eyes the snes had over the MD was sound, I don't care how big the media size is.

    All the versions are great. The music in the SNES is fantastic! Few negatives, the levels are missing from other consoles, in the SNES, Moose Hunters, chase level, it's shorter than the other consoles, yet The Prince and Pauper, tower level is longer and shorter in the other consoles. Finally, only the Playstation version has the Beanstalk Giant (Willie) chase level.

      actually the controls stink in the SNES version. Dunno why but they feel slippery overall, besides the cut Concert Mickey stage it also has my favorite track of the game missing, Rising Flames, which plays in the second to last level of the game right before the Pete final boss battle. Also WTF does an SNES game have loading times this noticable?! I know why, they had to rush the SNES version apparently while the Mega Drive/Genesis version had the time they needed to polish up the game.
      Also some boss or enemy patterns are different in the SNES version (liek the elevator in the mad doctor stage how the bones are dropping, in general the bones in that stage dont have the physics/pattern to memorize it) or sometimes certain music doesnt play (the first boss for example).

      @@daisytorres6979 I'm not joking. Sony was gonna work with Nintendo to make a CD add-on for the SNES called the "Nintendo PlayStation", then Nintendo backed out of the deal because Sony wanted control of the licensing for the SNES CD games. Nintendo moved over to Phillips to make the SNES CD add-on, but Nintendo cancelled the add-on because the Sega CD failed and still let Phillips make games for the CDI system while Sony made their own PlayStation 1 console.

    I bet that Sony Imagesoft made the SNES version inferior on purpose. The stock SNES, when properly coded, could handle much more than this game. Take the DKC trilogy for example, or even MegaMan X, X2 and X3 (well, the CX4 chip was for wireframe effects only).

    • @jasonlee7816

    Aunque la version de psx1 es superior , para mi , pierde el encanto de lo retro de los pixeles, y sus movimientos, aunque tambien tienen mejor animación y color, pierden velocidad, q para mi , es el valor mas importante en un juego de plataformas. Por lo tanto me quedo con la fantástica version de megaCD, q sus sonidos y musica me flipan. Grandisimo juego de plataformas.
