if y'all don't know who mickey newbury, buck white, guy clark'steve earl, bob mcdill& other names mentioned, then you missed country by a mile. this song gives me chills. i love it!
Bob McDill is finally going into the Country Music Hall of Fame this year. He can join Harlan and Tom T there. Maybe one day they will recognize the greatness of Guy, Townes, and Rodney too.
He’s written songs that reach in deep and massage the heart, songs that bring on tears, songs that bring on laughter, songs that bristle with electrically charged emotion, like he went to some dark, hidden place of energy just to find the switch and throw it. His songs are happy, catchy, friendly, playful, fearful, fretful, thoughtful, mindful, visionary and blind, and the records he’s put on the air, and on jukeboxes, have made the country music standard of living a little richer, made the lives of everyone who’s tapped into his talent a little more interesting.
Well said ! I actually got to meet him last summer at a lil music festival a brewery in murfreesboro tn. All I could get out was a thank you and a picture. I would love to sit down with him and just listen ..... imagine the stories he could tale
When Country Music was Real Country ! I'm Nashvilie Native , Only few are still doing Real Country ! is Sad my Brother lived on Acklen Like Rodney he got out of College !🎶
My grandparents lived on Westwood, very near there. Cash and Waylon shared a place near Acklen, and Hank Sr did too way back. Quiet little neighborhood. I wish I had known about Guy and Rodney back then. This kid would have gone to listen to the geniuses. But at 15, I wouldn't have appreciated it.
Don't know why you need to try and rate artist, but since you did,Guy Clark doesn't have close to the depth of songs Rodney has made, hits song, songs recorded by others, concerts videos,. This ain't even close.Rodney has earned how own status and looks up to no one especially Guy Clark.
i went to nashville and walked around listening to the 902,476 guitar pickers playing in every corner, all of them were better than me. never took my guitar out of the case, just went home. thats a tough town.
I drove through Nashville in 1981 cause I wanted to see Gruhn Guitars for myself. It was still on Broadway back then, place was infested with guitar pickers...All of them good. I bought a t-shirt and left.
@Rodney Croswell You're so welcome. I had no idea you were going through a rough patch. I certainly have covered your tunes and enjoyed your songwriting soulfulness. I wish you only the best. You always seemed like a positive ray of light to me! Let yourself heal. Please! Love, Jason
Rodney grabbed a new gear when "The Houston Kid" was released. I sure hope he gets back to Newport Kentucky. h His show at the Southgate House in 2005 was one of the best shows I've ever attended. We love him here. You couldn't bring Emmylou with you, could you?
Love the lyrics /even our well deserved. Steve earl gets a mention among others ., Never been to nashiville but there shure does sound like fantastic talent there ,even on a jam night or on the buskn street corners .Usa what great talent you have churned out throughout the years and to this day Thank you .tony from Scotland ..
Great biographical song. Wonderful. Does anyone know if that was Blaze foley on the double bass in one of the photos?. Thanks for this Great Upload. Regards Frank
@Rodney Croswell Respectfully, If you’re going to impersonate an artist , who has worked a lifetime at his craft , you might want to make sure you don’t misspell his name. I am reporting you to YT and then some. Pathetic...
D Storm The draft for call up for Vietnam was done by lottery. They put birthdays in a drum and pulled them out. If it fell on your date you were called up. So random who served who didnt.
Who served was only random to a degree. The lottery was random, but wealthier men were much more likely than poor men to get deferment for school or other reasons. But Rodney didn't have those advantages, so he was lucky. I expect he might have been one to head for Canada.

Rodney is approaching Guy Clark status. That's the highest compliment I could possibly give him. Great stuff!
His best yet

don't let others that you think are better than you discourage you. Its not about being better than others, its about being the best you.
And Songwriters too.

Maybe country music still has a chance to come back.

In 1972, he was very lucky to be in Nashville instead of Vietnam where millions of kids his age were.
yeah. To be honest not a single one of them should have been there. The Hippies were right
Millions?
