- I completely forgot to include an important scene from the route in this video, so I have uploaded a new version. The scene is at 2:08. I have also included an extra line of dialogue with the King near the end of the video. Thanks so much to everyone who pointed it out!
I put together a guide for how to complete the secret genocide/Weird Route in Deltarune Chapter 2. People also refer to it as the Snowgrave route. There are some very specific steps that must be followed in order to complete the run. Huge thank you for everyone who contributed to the Google Doc below containing the initial findings and a guide to triggering the ending.
This video contains all of the necessary steps to complete the run, as well as anything else that I found interesting during the run. There are definitely a few small things that this video does not include, but the Google Doc has a complete summary of all findings. Please take a look.

The pure genius of this is this entire corruption arc you do to Noelle is a loop hole against the “Your choices don’t matter”
It wasn’t your choice to kill all those monsters, you just asked Noelle to use her ability like instructed and her ability just so h a p p e n e d to kill all those monsters and she just so h a p p e n e d to get traumatized by it. It just so h a p p e n e d that Berdly just.... didn’t wake up. ;)

I do think our choices matter though. First chapter we can scare everyone and have them drive you out of the dark world or they help you overthrow the king if you are nice. Second chapter you can be nice and have the darkners form a Megatron robot or not. And you may also kill berdly and traumatize noelle or you can have berdly become better person and norlle more assertive. Our choices do matter even if the ending doesn't change
So deltarune may actually have 2 endings, and genocide may be more messed up than the first one
Some else pointed out to me that at the end of the Spamton NEO fight when selecting the ACT to call for help, the text states that Kris calls for help. However, when calling for Noelle, the text states that “You whisper for Noelle”; not Kris, YOU.

and the "whisper" part is hell'a scary like, noelle say that she hear a voice that was not from kris, but something else, and during the route frequently you say "prooced" instead of what kris usually express (emotions like fear or feeling not right) and that ring that you give to her specifically list "trance" like an ability, so is possible that that is why you only "whisper" because that was enougth to Force noelle to use her power in the spamton

Now that I think about it, this was foreshadowed as just a little joke in Ch. 1. Remember when Susie heard Kris’ command on which way to go in the jail, despite Kris being in another room?
This ties in to all the endings possibly.What I think is YOU are taking over Kris. The endings is basically Kris trying to have freedom
The ring making Noelle gain the Trance ability is also probably why she failed to recognize Berdly, then told him to run away, because she knew she'd be forced to freeze him.
On a similar note, since you're the one in charge of everything, it could be that Noelle didn't remember buying the ring or solving the puzzle because you made the game jumpcut to the action's completion...
I just noticed that when Noelle is playing videogames with her dad, she immediatly tries Iceshock...

In the main route, she tries Fireshock on an ice boss at her father suggestion, but the boss reflects fire. Iceshock could be the boss's hidden weakness, for all we know. Some elemental weakness in JRPGs aren't always the obvious ones.
Wow, this feels a lot darker than Undertale's genocide route. You're actually corrupting innocent people into doing your work for you. As painful as it will be, I can't WAIT to see just how dark Toby Fox decides to go with this, considering this is only chapter 2 of 7, and we've already committed "real life" murder. I can only hope we get another well deserved beatdown from Sans at the end of it lol

the pacifist of deltarune seems to be about getting your agency back from chara (ripping your soul out isnt fatal, and doesn't appear to actually do anything malicious if the fakeout was anything to go by. im betting there will be another fakeout.)

chara isnt out to kill everyone anymore. they are out to build an army of like-minded killers. and kris is his tool.
What if, since Noelle's technically the one to have killed, and her LV would presumably go up. Then by the end, you watch in horror as your choices led an innocent friend to a murderous rampage, and be struck down by Sans, someone who may not know who the real 'monster' is. Now _that_ would be a dark twist ending.

It astounds me how cheery and funny the pacifist or neutral routes can be, and how the evil routes just keep getting darker, yet darker.

@@minhbrawl2727 Not to mention you miss out on a lot of good character development for Berdly. Granted he's still one of my least favorite characters but who knows? If you spare him in pacifist/neutral, maybe he joins you in later chapters. I'm just hoping noelle shows up in later chapters on pacifist/neutral routes.
Berdly may be just some annoying kid for the player, but he's a close friend to Noelle, he fights you in genocide to save her from "Kris", and she herself kills him. That makes everything even worse lol
Man, Toby really knows how to make both spectrums of a game. The normal route is really happy and wholesome. The bad route is terrifying and creepy. What a guy.

Spamton saying "__ left." gave me chills the first time I read it. Just like the genocide run in Undertale all over again.
What is Spamton anyway? He seems like an amalgamation of different things. What made him corrupted, I have so many questions... Like Jevil

It’s interesting how Berdly still had a physical body in the lightners world even though he died, and how most likely to the normal eye they were all just asleep in the computer room. It makes you think about the existence of Ralsei and Asriel.
He might've "Fallen Down" in monster terms, So His body will turn to dust after awhile. I don't think anyone could see into the Computer Lab from it being turned into a Dark world but Probably through a camera would work. Darkners have a weird existence but they exist on some level even Ralsei... It's too soon to make any theory that hold any water yet.

His wing actually is normal in the real world if it gets fried in the dark world, so their physical bodies remain the same on return but retain any damage done to them

Im calling it right now, ralsei and asriel are the same person and they share the same memories
Berdly wasn’t turned to dust, only frozen in place. Since his body was still there in the dark world, it was still there in the real world too.
I saw someone else doing this run and saw a slight change in the ending dialouge with noelle in the hospital. I'm guessing he equipped one of noelle's starting accessories to Kris because instead of asking "Then why did their voice sound so terrifying just now" she asks "Kris, Why are you wearing my watch?". The video is a full playthrough by a channel called Shayy.
Definitely something that I didn't do in my run. The Google Doc has a few other small things that I didn't find in my run.

@@ThiccFurryBoi34 No I don't think it's the royal pin, because you can purchase that from the cafe. Noelle wore two accesories, I'm assuming the royal pin was given to her by the Queen
Noelle has a watch equipped as an Armour when she joins the party, if you unequip that watch and equip something else then I think you get that text.

It’s crazy what’s happening! And here I thought Deltarune truly wouldn’t have a Genocide route, and even if it did, I thought it would have minor changes for being chapter 2 of a 7 chapter game. But here we are! Corrupting an innocent girl without anyone else knowing, the secret boss of pacifist becomes the final boss in genocide, and the frickin murder of a kid. I don’t know how the story will continue for either Pacifist or Genocide (and maybe Neutral) but I am HERE FOR IT!
is it confirmed to be a 7 chapters game ? If so it's bittersweet since we have a lot more than expected but the wait is gonna be loooong

I’m fairness, Suzy probably had a way different experience than Kris did. She was just hanging around with Ralsei for most of the game.

Definitely was more willing to team up with Noelle than Berdly, and I was fine fighting/sparing him in a battle where he wouldn't really be hurt, but killing him? Making Noelle kill him? Seeing that he isn't waking up after we leave the Dark World?
I don't *like* the guy, he's an arrogant and annoying know-it-all, but I didn't genuinely want him *dead.* Wow this path is dark.

He’s so annoying.” Then when you play the genocide/snow grave ending it’s like “oh shit we *killed* him?! Is he dead?! He is just sleeping, right? Right!! Haha oh god oh fuck”
@@smileyface81mc77 Oh yeah, it was definitely intentional. "Here's an unlikable but otherwise generally harmless character who poses no real threat to you - how will you treat him?" Berdly also has a couple redeeming qualities, in his genuine friendship with Noelle, and none of his flaws come anywhere close to making killing him a justifiable option. He's the kind of guy you probably wouldn't want to befriend and may avoid, not someone to try to kill off.
And honestly - even if he was a lot worse, he's, what, 16? Younger? And we're trying to kill him off because he got on our nerves a few times/to see what happens? No, that definitely makes US the bad guy in the situation, not him.

Interesting observation: birdly leaves a corpse (?), whereas monsters, by lore, should turn into dust on death. Just wanted to point this out. Edit: after a bit of thinking, I remembered that the state "fallen down" was mentioned in the true lab, so kris could hide the body in the closet and he could dust later.
Theory :
Birdley only got frozen and just can't wake up anymore.
Not that different from him being a corpse since he'll probably never wake up , but it would explain why he didn't turn to dust.

This is basically an eldritch horror story with _you_ as the eldritch being. You compel Noelle into doing things, and she slowly loses herself as she gains knowledge and power from what you put her through.
Our choices don't matter.

@@The5lacker I also remember being creeped out by how *DETERMINATION* (all caps), which is the power that the player used in Undertale to come back after a "game over", to "save", to "load up a previous save", etc. is meant to have a double meaning; the "DE" can be seen as a way of saying "un" like the way other words have "un" as a prefix (words such as unpleasant or unresponsive), combining that with "TERMINATION" (which usually means ending something) and we basically have the power to "un"-end within the context of the game[s]. Whenever they talk about determination as a feeling it's lowercase but whenever they referenced it as a sort of power it's uppercase.

It's really creepy on how we have the decision too make kris cross noelle's boundaries. Telling noelle that we're something more and that she WILL ride with us. I'm saying us because we are the ones controlling kris, and making kris say/do these things.

@@Rikri My source? I played the game. And it wouldn't make sense if the story continued from a fucked up timeline where you don't even fight the queen and all that. It just doesn't doesn't work unless it's just a what if since it was officially said that there's only one ending.

There’s actually another dialogue change that I found when talking to King in the jail.
the interaction between him and queen won’t happen. instead he’ll say “you left them behind. just like you left us”
i believe that happens if you dont recruit any enemies in chapter 2, or maybe dont recruit enough? i got that when i tried to do a run where i didnt ever recruit (didnt commit mass genocide with ice magic and brainwashing, sadly)

It's crazy how he pulled this off. Not to mention...Kris is getting around the whole "Your Choices Don't Matter' schtick set up in chapter 1. It's not his choices...if he convinces someone else to commit a genocide run for him, now is it? And the slow corruption of Noelle...it's subtle, it's there, but...she's slowly convinced the choices Kris makes for her...are her own...as if deep, deep down...she wanted this.
She did. She wanted to grow stronger. she paid the price.
The best thing about this is the fact that, after the Snowgrave sequence and after Noelle leaves your party, you are LOCKED into the route, you no longer have a choice

quite honestly, if you do the normal route first, then the Snowgrave route ... it hits you 10x harder.
seeing noelle slowly submitting is so heartbreaking. especially if you get the thorn ring and you know shes getting tortured basically.

33:33 "Ralsei has PuppetScarf, massively increasing his attack if equipped".............Are they gonna force Ralsei to kill in the next chapter???? Since things from the first chapter carried over into the second, then the genocide from this chapter has to have some affect on the next one as well
PuppetScarf is the general reward for defeating Spamton NEO by attacking (similar to JevilsKnife), so I guess they just give it to you somewhere right after he dies

@yama-o ralsei isnt giving the full story and thats obvious from the get go. Case and point their immunity to the effects of being out of their own darkworld.
i think both are a problem since the dark fountain obviously didnt show up until relatively recently (they had a fucking storage closet in there and it was one until it fully turned into one when the papers fell down in chapter 1) meaning his sprung up too, meaning i dont understand why he is immune nor able to travel between fountains.
@. There's a hole in the wall to the left after entering the closet that you can find after you return from your adventure. Maybe he dug his way there
I find it really refreshing that spamton isn't fighting you because "you have to be stopped no matter what!", but simply because your getting in the way of his plans.
This route seems so sick and twisted to me... I was never able to complete the genocide run in Undertale because of how horrible it made me feel.
This is on another level. It's not even you that is killing everyone, you are forcing an innocent person to be twisted and warped into a broken scared killing machine. This is worse than the Undertale genocide run to me in so many ways. I felt sick after watching this. Toby, this was absolutely horrifying. Still good as a story aspect... But wow...
toby is a genius, he found so many ways to change the game mechanics too! (and make the puzzles freakingly difficult)
@@zz.z. yeah I just hope the man has the "determination" to get through this. I mean he's devoted a portion of his life to these, 5 more chapters? He's got a lot on his plate.
@@KevinSecondWind well, us fans gotta support him so him and his team will be motivated to continue. he didn't give up on Undertale, DELTARUNE is pretty high quality and the gameplay for chapter 2 lasted a bit longer than the first. (for me i guess, since i was so invested bc of how much was going on)

An extra dialogue change happens if you equip Noelle's watch to Kris - when she confronts him in the hospital, she asks him why he's wearing her watch, and you can choose to tell her it was "in your dream".
Susie comes out of the hospital room after that, but it's a cool dialogue change that makes Noelle aware that everything she did actually happened.

Fun fact: If you unequip Noelles watch and equip it on Kris, you'll get a different dialogue at the end 30:04

What I like about the different dialogue, is that it implies a... _finalization_ to making Kris's choices matter. Kris is about to tell Noelle he put her watch on "In your dream." implying it was real for her on some level and making Susie's white lie pointless...
but it's implied Susie came in and interrupted Kris.
During this entire run, the dialogue hinges on a line of light and dark as the world STRUGGLES to fix its tone, but it can't. Kris made sure of that.
Edit: Just found out, Kris does this either way.

Besides, Susie interrupts the player attempting to say that "it was just a dream" so safe to assume, Noelle didn't hear it.
But here, she saw the Watch. She didn't need a confirmation.

i finished playing the game recently with the pacifist route and was rly intrigued with the genocide one (seeing all the discourse abt snowgrave, and thought to try it out later on with a separate save file). Now that after watching the vid, i don't think i hv the heart to do the route. I don't want to do this to Noelle, Berdly or to the darklings in this one or anyone rly. Applauds to toby for making this morbid psychological horror. Thank you sir

Actually your half to correct.
The Snowgrave spell actually unlocks in this Berdly fight but it would cost 200% of TP which is Impossible cause it can only go to 100%
The Thorn ring makes it so it reduces the coat of ice type spells. Reducing Iceshock to 8% and Snowgrave to 100%
It's also worth noting that during the fight even when it's your turn Noelle will rapidly lose HP the minimum it can go down is 55 HP.
Still this route is more unnerving then the Genocide route... Because your making someone think turning people into icecubes is ok...

I love how part of the twist involving Noelle's character is that, for whatever reason (I can only assume her mother's pressure), she's going against her specialties if you choose to not corrupt her. At first glance she's like an FF white mage style healer, only to realize that her heal costs a ridiculous amount of TP compared to Ralsei's. Meanwhile, her damaging spell is so low cost. I can't say too much without more context from future chapters obviously, but it really feels like the game's trying to tell you that she's a natural at killing with the slightest push - by the time she's fully corrupted, she's EASILY the strongest character in the party, and if her damage numbers are anything to go off of with her magic by the end, one of the strongest characters - if not the strongest character - we've seen in Deltarune just in general.
In FF terms, she's a black mage trying to be a white mage, and could be a deeper indication that maybe it's some kind of symbolism of how her mother's overbearing personality is holding back her confidence and thus also her potential. Which could also be why, to some extent, Noelle welcomed Kris' pushing to let loose because she finally felt she didn't need to hold herself back. Even if she's been permanently traumatized by it, part of the conflict comes from the idea that she also probably loved the power she felt when she didn't need to worry.

So Seeing how this run only works cause Noelle obeys you, it is pretty interesting that Susie decides to ACT on her own, I believe that Susie might be the final boss of this "Genocide Run" in the last chapter, her or Noelle or both.

Fun fact: When you attempt to let go the switch and getting Noelle hurt in Normal route, Noelle actually does the same after you pranked her. After that, she commented that Kris was hurt (Even though you didn't physically take damage in any way, same goes to Noelle).
I did that on the normal route just as she crossed over which didn’t hurt her, it just scares her, and then she does the same to you just before you’re about to cross. And it gave me a quick laugh because it’s just a simple harmless prank. But this put’s that in a whole new light.

I don't understand why everyone takes Susie's statement at face value. Toby fox is infamous for subverting expectations and irony. Our choices clearly do matter, we choose to befriend or terrorise darkners, and we the player choose to direct noelle down a dark path or not. Even ralsei mentioned that while we can fight, being kind is still an option in the first chapter.

The more you think about it, the ring of thorns could be a reference to the crown of thorns Jesus was forced to wear as humilation before being crucified.

Queen saying "Into A Darker, Darker Dream" really makes me think that Kris will become some sort of a new Gaster and Noelle will be one of his followers if this "genocide" route is followed through with in the full game. Or maybe Noelle literally just becomes a Gaster Follower. Either way, this makes it even sadder that Noelle and Susie were definitely doing something more romantic in that room than what they would've in the normal room, given the implications.

I've always been curious about why Kris rips out his soul. Not so much the ripping out, but why he puts it back Everytime. Does he gain some kind of power?
At the end when he slashes the tires to toriel's car, I've been trying to understand why. From the hand washing scene, it's shown that Kris can remove his soul at any time, as long as he can contain it from coming back to him. Ex. The bathroom cabinet. Showing he has enough control over his body with the soul in him to take it out. So many questions... And so much time until we get answers...
I think he does it so Toriel calls the cops, maybe Undyne will have a big role in the next chapter

No one is talking about the fact that in the hospital room scene the music sounds like that one OMORI theme in headspace. Andd Toby did work on OMORI so I wouldn’t be surprised if it is a reference, which Toby has already even inspired by some of OMOCAT’s work (for example woshua) so it might be possible. I guess you could say that noelle will have her own *headspace* now!
I haven’t tried this run for myself but lord knows I don’t think I would have figured it out so easily. This is fucking smart and great, it’s different in all the right ways. And it still managed to be pretty terrifying. Can’t wait to see some theories come out the wood work cuz I know they’re coming strong this time.

This reminded me of when Chara says that the seak of more power made you, the player, kill everyone in Undertale. While in Deltarune, is Kris who slowly corrupts Noelle, making her think that what she is doing is okay because she is "getting stronger". Also, as she thinks (or thought) it is (or was) a dream, she didn't feel that guilty. Exactly as the way you thought "it's just a game, i'm not hurting anyone, i'm not doing something bad... right?"

I just realized the parallels between this and the genocide route. I’ll be using the Dusttale AU as reference, so it might not hold water, but hear me out! In Undertale, the Genocide route was (basically) equally as likely as the Neutral and Pacifist routes. You could go through the whole game doing a Pacifist or Genocide routes and you could do one as much as the other. But in Deltarune, the worst you can do in Ch 1 is a Jerk Pacifist, where you beat up everything, but never kill. But in Ch 2, you can do a Genocide route, but it requires a lot of know how in order to do it. You have to do a lot of arbitrary steps in order to get it right and it’s very easy to just stop doing it or to get it wrong. I think this plays to Undertale/Deltarune fan’s curiosity. The fandom is so hungry for everything relating to Undertale/Deltarune that they’ll do anything for more. They took Gaster, who in-game is extremely obscure, and made him one of the biggest characters in the fandom. There are dozen upon dozen of AUs, ranging from complete overhauls to very minor tweaks in their changes. They’ll take anything as long as it’s new. The Dusttale AU plays on this, where the story is that after hundreds of Genocides, Sans has enough and breaks, kill everyone to get stronger. A character in that AU questions whether or not the player did this just to find something new, in which he succeeded. Ch 2 plays on this feeling of want for something new. It give the player something new, in exchange of doing something so horrible to one of its characters, that some fans consider what happens in the SnowGrave route to be worse than what happens in Undertale Genocide. If anyone in the shoes of Kris did what happens in this route, they would be considered some of the worst scum of society.
But the fans did it anyway, why?
Because it was new.
Jesus those last two lines gave me shivers-
We the players are so cruel, we might not be starting some of the drama but we sure as hell aren’t helping
Kris literally has to rip out their soul just so they can control their own body and even then they struggle to move, making jerky, short, and slow steps.
We sit and watch in suspense as a poor kid is forcing their body to do what THEY want instead of what WE want
the damage sound is heard when Kris is doing this so it’s clear that they’re physically hurting themselves just to be able to actually control their body
That and we can see their reaction to the pain, forcing their hand into their chest and ripping out what is essentially an organ with their eyes wide and hunched over.
I remember immediately going to the cage at the start of chapter 2 and interacting with it and the line shook me:
“A birdcage, when it’s closed there’s no escape”
And everyone are massive hypocrites! We say that what we’re doing to Kris/Frisk or whoever is awful BUT WE KEEP DOING IT! I dislike what we’re doing to Kris but I know I’m probably going to play the next chapters and probably even repeat them!

Much like the Undertale Genocide route, the process of getting this playthrough is incredibly specific and easy to miss... Yet it explores a lot of things one would never encounter on a Pacifist run, or even just a neutral run where you kill but don't follow the exact rules.
Edit: Watching this makes me feel deeply uncomfortable. Like, moreso than the Genocide Route in Undertale, if that makes any sense. What Kris (through the player's actions) does to Noelle, a sweet girl who can't bring herself to say no to what Kris asks her, is legit sickening.
Edit2: There's also a lot less pomp and circumstance when it comes to the revelation of "the Roaring". It almost feels likes like dialogue that needs to be there in order for things to make sense when the full game is released, but also feels like Toby knows people are only going to try this route after already doing a Pacifist run, so they might as well bog you down with all that... or maybe the "Grandness of adventuring in the Dark World" isn't really necessary in this run, since it feels like anyone trying a Genocide/Snowgrave run is just trying to get through the game more quickly... in a way, it feels similar to the message of Undertale's Genocide run, grinding up LV to speed through the rest of the game, like missing the forest for the trees, you know?
I kinda got the opposite impression about the dialogue with Queen. Seeing this, it feels like there's no real reason for Ralsie to wait until after the fight to tell Queen why making more dark fountains is a bad idea. I get that there needs to be a "final battle" for each chapter, but it seems a lot more fitting for Ralsie to just end it before it begins.

I didn’t realize this before, but in the “pacifist” run, when defending, Noelle will hide but in genocide she uses an ice shield.
