- In this video, I talk about GrapheneOS on my new Pixel 5A and a little bit on how it compares to LineageOS.

Using a pixel 8 with grapheneos. To say it's a breath of fresh air would be an entire understatement. Love it.
@@siertimunkaidinkumfiasterd7978 Haven't run into any issues and everything works perfectly and I've had it since the pixel 8 release.
Best thing is if you do need to use the playstore you can because it's installed as the sandboxed version, so majority of the permissions for apps are stripped
@@siertimunkaidinkumfiasterd7978 I don't know why youtube deleted my reply - strange. Anyways,
I've had graphene since the pixel 8 was released and have had no issues with any of the apps including banking apps :-)
@@siertimunkaidinkumfiasterd7978 RUclips keep deleting my reply for whatever reason. No issues with bank apps or any app :-)
@@siertimunkaidinkumfiasterd7978Most mail clients shouldn't have any problem working, including proprietary ones like Gmail and Outlook.
I would love an update video on this!
Great video, also I recommend switching to organic maps since it is completely offline after you download a map and very simple and lightweight (also available in the fdroid repo). Also a lineageos user at the moment and I use microG GMS core as an alternative to google play services and it works great, can't wait to try and check the difference between sandboxed play services/microG when I get my pixel device, and would love to see an update in a month covering your purpose/usage with the device👌
Thank you bro, I appreciate it. My only concern with FOSS map applications is they can't function like a satnav (verbally reading directions while driving). I've considered using Waze or TomTom's software, but they're proprietary and might not be any better than Google Maps.
Google unfortunately purchased Waze years back for like a billion dollars...😢
Laughed out loud at the IT Crowd reference ^^
Quite intesting, could you update us in a couple of months to see how it does long term? Do you intend on running it day-to-day or just for this video?
I will be using it day-to-day. Generally speaking, the hardware I show on this channel is put to use.
@@gnulectures 6 months later. How did it went?
What about google pixel camera
The reason that Gos chose the pixel phone is due to the fact that the pixel is the only phone with a dedicated security chip, the Titan M2.
When you turn on a Pixel device, the Titan M2 communicates with the bootloader to validate that you’re running the latest known version of Android. This check ensures an attacker hasn’t rolled back your device’s operating system to an older, potentially unsafe version. Google also states that the chip safeguards against malicious attempts to unlock the bootloader.
Once booted, the phone’s storage remains encrypted and inaccessible until you clear the lock screen prompt. The Titan M2 plays a key role here as it stores the decryption keys. Even if an attacker tampers the operating system to try and brute-force their way through the lock screen, the chip will limit the number of attempts at the hardware level. Titan M2 will only reveal the decryption k😮eys if you enter the correct pattern or PIN.
I like grapheneOS' security features, and you don't have to compromise on a lot features from stock android (only Google wallet and a few other things). But what's missing is a "special feature" beyond the privacy aspect. Something which should not be integrated to the main repo, but perhaps be a fork. Maybe root access, or a subsystem for GNU tools. Lot's of potential anyways.
Haven't watched the video yet since im at work but this is convenient, ordered a pixel 7 pro 128gb 3 days ago on sale for $500 with plans to make it a minimalist phone with grapheneOS
You should read my comment earlier, it should help you make an informed decision about GrapheneOS. I recommend installing CalyxOS instead of Graphene. Graphene has a lot of issues which i mentioned in my earlier comment (which you should read). All of my claims are verifiable.
Calyx uses a fully FOSS implementation of google play services, as well as having most of the benefits of having GrapheneOS (Locked bootloader, good privacy and security, etc.), and similar to Graphene it only works on google pixel devices. I highly recommend it.
How is it working out did it give you good battery life on the pixel?
@@Nick-bo6rz working great so far, the battery is much better than my old phone since it was poly-ion compared to the pixel 7 pro lithium-ion. I only have a few complaints, one that I have is that it takes roughly an hour and 40-50 minutes to go from 0-100, and charges at a peak of 15w for me using a 33w charging brick. The second is idle power consumption is horrible over night (7-9% usage with wifi off), but this can be fixed by enabling airplane mode and power saver mode. Lastly, the chipset is great for everyday phone usage and a general poweruser phone, but it is stuttery in gpu intensive applications such as high end emulators.

Secret third option: Ubuntu Touch. Plenty of devices with jacks and removable storage on that side.
Your mental illness is apparent from your channel and the way you write.
GrapheneOS is boring, CrDroid is the best on the other hand.
If it does what I need it to do, then I don't really care if it's boring lol
