Your reference to the Catholic Church and worshipping art is a bit ignorant. Do you hang pictures of family members in your home? Why? Its the same reason Iconography/statues of Our Lord and Blessed Mary and Saints hang in Catholic Churches all over the world. Research before making assumptions on things.

      Europa H2O Alien,
By "forced" you mean obligation rather than coercion. And in believes consistent with being Catholic, there are no Protestants but for those believes consistent with Catholicism that they may be Christians at all. One is derivative of Christ, the other derivative of Christ and HIS Church.
Here's the reality of honour given to the Blessed Mother. It was FIRST given by God. The message the Archangel provided the Blessed Mother was provided to him as task by God the Father, and thus...God the Son (And God the Holy Spirit). When the Archangel says, "Hail, Full of Grace" he is acknowledging the Blessed Mother in a way reserved only for those whose office demands HONOUR. That honour isn't the same honour given God.
When Mayors are addressed at various functions, they are referred to as "Your Worship". Now...Are good "Bible-believing" Christians compromising their testimony by addressing a Mayor "Your Worship" or a King as "King" so and so? Or are they merely participating in language that attempts to convey plain meaning and plain understanding commensurate with their time, place and culture? I submit it's the latter. Moreover, when one uses the word "pray" do we mean God-exclusive worship or do we mean "to ask" in the common English expression once used commonly in phrases such as, "Pray tell, what do you mean?" or "Pray that sentence would be less harsh and do it quickly!". The word pray best means what it means in it's archaic adverbial form: "used as a preface to polite requests or instructions."
That same honour/worship given to Mayors and Kings is surely not the same as understood reserved only for God and God alone. That as a matter of fact IS the Catholic position and the technical term for it is LATRIA. It is singular and exclusive in adoration to God and God alone. By all means reference the Catholic Catechism or simply Google the term for references and essays on the subject. DULIA (Fr. the Greek.) is that form of homage/veneration given to the Saints. It is understood and has always been understood as different in definition and application and degree to that of LATRIA and to that of HYPERDULIA. HYPERDULIA is related to DULIA...NOT to LATRIA...and it is it's on unique definition given to the Blessed Mother according to her special office and role. Note...HYPERDULIA and DULIA are related and they are distinct and UNRELATED from LATRIA. The latter is EXCLUSIVELY given to God in accordance with the First Commandment. The former are terms separate and distinct in degree applied to human beings.
And if one can honour a King here or a Mayor there, as Christians are we not intended to honour those in Christ's Church appropriately and distinguish them according to the hierarchies their merit befits? Yes, all those who are called to Him are to be called "Saints" or "Holy". And there are Saints who are known, and there are Saints living today who are unknown by humanity but known by God. Those that have been canonized are merely those known. It doesn't mean only they are saints. That process - like Confession - is a grace given by God as a means to locate examples of how we might also behave in His Grace as others have to a degree exampled by their lives that leaves no reasonable doubt that they and their example are examples of a life lived following God.
In this world there are sheep and shepherds. And a shepherd's life is defined by service to his sheep. If they are injured, the shepherd will risk his very life to heal them. When he does, the animal obviously knows it's been healed. That's not unlike the sacrament of Reconciliation i.e. Confession. God knows we've sinned. He doesn't need our request for forgiveness to know that we've sinned. The Grace of Reconciliation operates in the priestly orders, the authority given by Christ to His priests. You may not like it, you may not understand it's requirement, but in our Faith, we step out in faith first, into the mystery, in order to believe. And Christ Our King and Lord instituted that His Apostles and those they appoint under the authority of Christ, could forgive or remit sins. If you are a Christian, you cannot choose to remove what bothers or confuses or inconveniences you. The notion of obligation isn't something contrived by men...It was mandated by God.
The grace I mentioned contained in the sacrament of Reconciliation is this...We are forgiven under the authority of Christ's Church. But I suspect as important is this...Unlike simply stating out loud, "Forgive me!" to hear nothing material or audible in return, the practical reality is, some merely assume they're forgiven according to their preferred feelings and notions of God's economy of salvation. Instead, the sacrament provides the penitent absolute certainty that they are forgiven.
With all due respect, your formation was much like those in the past 50 years who also were never given the appropriate education about Christ's Church. And that's not on you, that's on others tasked with the responsibility...But...Now that technology provides a deposit of readily available answers and you have specific addresses to your claims...You need to be more precise to determine if you are in fact, honouring what God honours.
And remember Colossians 1:16: "For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him."
Read that verse again if you have to..."all things have been created through him and for him." And that includes most especially the woman He specifically designed to carry Him and the woman He called Mother and whom others identified as His Mother. Be very, very careful with how you address the Blessed Mother. And may God give you eyes to see why she is so special and more importantly to WHOM she is held in such unique love.
