    Ugh…. I know a lot of channels do the “Top 3 front side skis!” or “5 best skis for beginners who want to carve!” but they’re all bad. This guy would crush that kind of content.

      Dang, that's really nice of you to say! I know, I totally try to avoid the top 5 buzzfeed style videos, but I do think I could make some really good ones actually. Thanks for the encouragement and nice comment!

    For the sake of posterity you might consider adding the The Ski freestyle ski (the classic blue ski with the rectangles) to your list. There was a time in the late 70s where virtually all the competition bump skiers were riding The Ski's with Scott Superhot boots. Given that The Ski was a tiny company it's no leap to assume that Bobby Burns wasn't paying competetors out-of-pocket to ride his skis -- they came to The Ski by choice. Bobby never developed a moderate priced recreational ski, and that's probably why his company didn't last so long, but in the golden age of bump skiing his skis dominated the most demanding non-racing market. I know you probably haven't skied these yourself (good luck finding a pair with functional bindings) but like I say -- for posterity.

    Really like this video. I have this idea that one of the reviewers, like you or ski essentials could do a head to head comparison of the skis that were revolutionary across the eras to what their equivalent would be today. I'm thinking things like the Volkl carver xt, the salomon pocket rockets and xScream, the atomic acces, DPS wailers, the Rossignol Soul, Scott Aztec or Pure, Blizzard Brahma, K2 Seth Pistol, the early Stormriders. That would really illustrate how the technology has evolved. As you can see I'm mostly listing all mountain types skis as this is what I mostly buy and I think this is one of the most popular consumer categories where there have been more investment and technological changes.

    Demoed the Maverick 88s in Vail. You are right it does feel great to carve on these. Took a run to understand how they're supposed to carve. I felt a lot of the carving energy in more of the center area - you described it in more detail in another video. In general the Mavericks felt better than any of the 10 or so skis I have been on so far. A glaring issue that kept me from buying them was at higher speeds, if you're not balanced 100% the skis suddenly would throw you back, or they would lose control over the crud at moderate speeds, 'suddenly' is the key word. Have posted a few times about this. Others have said once you spend a few days with them you can overcome some of this. Ended up going Volkl Kendo 88 to get a bit more stability. Other than that one gripe, which might be fixable, my real point is that I had a LOT of fun with the Mavericks and they do feel great with carving!

    • @RicketySkiReviews
      @RicketySkiReviews  8 месяцев назад

      Totally agree! I have seen on really wet heavy days that those "crud cutter" skis do a better job, but for Idaho and UT I prefer the Mavericks!

    • @sulydog
      @sulydog 5 месяцев назад

      How are u liking the Kendo’s? I’m considering the Mav 88ti’s, Kore 93s and those.

      Oddly enough the Kendos are now known as the Volkl Mantra 88s for 2025, although I think they're the same design just different name/topsheet. Mantra M7s though do have major changes for 2025. Anyway, with the Kendos so far so good. Still learning them but honestly it isn't brain surgery, nor is the extra amount of work needed to drive them that noticeable. The tradeoff is you feel like you "ken do" anything on them. Think they were a good choice for EastCoast/ice as they cut through crud quite well. Mavs are more fun at slower speeds and more intuitively accessible, although I wouldn't have the same confidence with them charging down a hill with questionable conditions. If you're dealing more with soft snow the Maverick 88s are good, harder I'd go Kendos. Can't speak to other brands. Am demoing the Maverick 95s at Whistler this coming week, and maybe a couple others, so will see how that goes. @sulydog @RicketySkiReviews

    Those orange Rossignols were on the feet of such a huge portion of young racers (including myself). The success they had prompted an array of merch that rossignol pushed on us and we gladly bought 😂 like orange and black bags, orange and black gloves, orange and black poles, etc. Etc. Etc. 😂
    On another note, have you any experience with dynastar ? The M-pro 90 looks like an underrated ski!

    Do you have any thoughts on the maverick 86c? I saw a video from ski essentials, Jeff really seems to enjoy them. Apart from ski essentials not finding really any good info/ feedback about these skis. Almost seems like these skis are getting treated like the read headed step child 🤣.

      Great, I don't have a top five for boots just because all the big names have good quality for the most part, it's just about personal foot shape and what fits each individual. Hoping to test a wider variety of bindings this winter though.
