Gary Baker He stated at Power Morphicon years ago that he was brought in by the producers because the ratings for Power Rangers had begun to fall during Zeo. So he was brought on for the second half of Zeo as well as a role in the movie - can't remember if him being evil in the Turbo movie was part of his "demand" for coming back. It worked - ratings for the second half of Zeo spiked. But after the debacle of Turbo (writers/cast unhappy) they decided to more or less scrap everything and start over, with In Space pitched as the series finale for Power Rangers (but instead it skyrocketed the popularity of the show back up and it continued on for another 15 something years).

I know the song itself is american made but when you see the Gold Ranger kick ass for the first time, It's epic stuff like this that makes you scream "GOD BLESS JAPAN!" (That's what I scream whenever I encounter something epically awesome that's Anime or Japanese-related btw. lol)
Seriously, Jason was the bomb. I always love his little speech at the end of Green with Evil 4. It was a shame the character didn't stay, he was seriously the defining Red Ranger. Would have loved to see how White Light and the following episodes were originally supposed to go, before the voiceover changes to cover the actors' leaving.
It was the actor that played Tray, the Gold Ranger, who made a second link between Power Rangers and VR Troopers, which is kind of fun to know. He played Ryan Steel (I hope it's spelled correctly) in VR Troopers. The original protagonist of that series (which was then called Cybertron) was actually called Adam Steel. And who played that part? Exactly! Jason David Frank. This was one of the reasons that Tommy Oliver originally wouldn't return after he lost the Green Ranger powers. But that character was too popular.

Jason as Red found a way to beat the evil Green Ranger who had Rita's and Dragonsheild powers. Jason given the Gold Ranger power, the strongest power, immediately tells Tommy he won't step over Tommy's leadership role, unlike what Tommy did previously. He is the better Ranger.
