Important to mention that following World War I it was the Mandate for Palestine, Israel as a nation didn’t come into existence until after World War II. As I’m commenting here I’ll also say I absolutely love your videos, great job with this most recent set

    Dear Mr. Heilmler,
I wanted to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude for the incredible support you've provided throughout the year in my AP World class. Your videos have been an absolute lifesaver, especially when I've found myself struggling with the material taught by my teacher. Your dedication and hard work truly shine through in your videos, and I can't thank you enough for the time and effort you've put into creating such helpful resources. Thanks to your guidance, I've been able to consistently achieve As and Bs in the class, and more importantly, I feel genuinely prepared and confident in my understanding of the subject. Your teaching style resonates with me, and I appreciate the clarity and depth with which you cover the topics. It's evident that you have a passion for educating, and it has made a significant impact on my academic performance. Once again, thank you for being such a valuable resource. Your efforts have not gone unnoticed, and I am sincerely grateful for the positive impact you've had on my learning experience.

    My Notes:
    The Mandate System
    • Although colonial people fought in WWI, European powers did not award them with independence or self-rule
o European powers and the Japanese maintained their colonial holdings in the interwar period, and in some cases, states gained colonial territory as a result of the war
    • Some new states did emerge like the Republic of Turkey but….
    • Most colonial territories were transferred from one imperial power to another
    • Britain and France wanted to dismantle the Ottoman and German Empires and divide those colonial territories, but U.S. President Woodrow Wilson said that states should have a right to govern themselves
o They compromised and created the mandate system- Middle Eastern territories would become mandates administered by the League of Nations
 Three-tiered structure to classify these territorial holdings
    1. Class C Mandates
o Smallest population and least developed
    o Treated as colonies
o Several islands in the pacific
    2. Class B Mandates
o Larger populations but still underdeveloped
o Most of Germany’s colonies in Africa
    3. Class A Mandates
o Large populations and sufficiently developed
o Suitable for independence and self-rule
o But the British still occupied post-Ottoman Palestine and Iraq and the French occupied Syria and Lebanon
 Treated them no different from colonies
    Japan Expands
    • In 1931 Japan invaded Manchuria for expansion and natural resources
    • That was a violation of the rules established by the league of nations sooo
    • Japan said sayonara suckers (jk, they just quit the league of nations)
    • By 1932, Japan took over a part of China and created a puppet state called Manchukuo
o Japan continued to expand and called its are of influence the Greater East Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere
    Anti-Imperial Resistance
    • Indian National Congress
o Formed before war in the late 19th century
o Formally petitioning the British government for greater degrees of self-rule in India
o However, British dominance remained unchanged
    • African National Congress
o Founded in South Africa by western-educated lawyers and journalists
o Dedicated itself to obtaining equal rights for colonial subjects in South Africa

The British occupied post-Ottoman Palestine and Iraq. It wasn't called Israel then. Geezus Heimler, for someone who teaches history that's a glaring, unexcusable anachronism.
