    History of Fijian and Tonga: Tui Tonga came to Fiji to help Cakobau in the war against Rewa call the “Battle of Kaba” where they defeated Rewa. Hence the Tongan-Fijian connection. Maafu the son of the Tui Tonga stayed in Fiji and had a big influence in there politic where he was over the Lau’s island hence the mixture of the culture there.

      @@undertaker2595Are you stupid that’s not what they’re saying. And Tongans aren’t the only ones who wear Ta’ovalas. We had links to Tonga before King Ma’afu. Tongan princess would marry our Chiefs in Lau and the two brothers were also sent to Lau aswell. We always had connections.

      I don't know exactly but back in ancient Tonga and fiji days they intermarried especially the royals. They went to war with each each other, sailed the seas. Both Fiji and Tonga have people living in certain islands in Tonga also fiji, like lau islands in fiji, haapai island group in tonga. I myself have ancestors from lau island, lakepa, also haapai. 🇹🇴🇫🇯🇳🇿

      Yep. So around the c.19th, the prince of Tonga, Ma'afu, had sailed to fiji. During his time here, many intermarriages occured. As a result of this, a huge fusion of tongan and fijian culture, traditions and protocols occured in daily life.

    • @TM686K
      @TM686K 4 года назад +4

      @@epeli189 Many would argue that Tonga and Fiji's ties go back even before Ma'afu. Many of the Falefa or advisors to the Tu'i Tonga centuries before were comprised of Uvean, Samoan and Fijian nobles. One of the captains of the famed Uvean/Tongan kalia Lomipeau was the Vunivalu Nailasikau. Tongan names like Lapaha, Tupou, Lakepa, Ha'atafu are all cognates from their Fijian form Labasa, Tubou, Lakeba, Kadavu.
