      So a photographer with a relationship with Sony says the A1 is great shocker. Any reviewer with any relationship with any camera manufacturer should be treated with caution. Most declare it as Mark has done but I'm sure some don't.

      @@stevemurnan1702 Yes it's definitely something to be aware of, but Mark is the most professional media creator I've come across on YT. He's thorough and provides plenty of test footage and shots to download and pixel peep. His videos aren't flashy trying to get the likes. Mark Smith photography is another good reviewer - particularly for wildlife as well. He doesn't have the A1 yet. He's not a Sony ambassador. Some people don't like Jared Polin, but I find his reviews fairly unbiased as well. Northrups...well, I unsubbed a long time ago.

    • @john23232
      @john23232 3 года назад +1

      What’s the point of having eye AF if it’s not precise, that was the main concern of the initial question. If the question was asked stupidly, it’s not the problem of the reviewer, but the person asking it. I want to have a precise eye AF if it’s available, otherwise there is not point of having it « just a case it works ».
      I had an XT-3 and it was working 50% of the time for eye AF, so I never used it (and spent more time finding the eye manually than thinking of composition and emotion). Technology is there to help us focus on the important things and we should be able to rely on it.

I recall they initially trashed the A9, then later slated that the exposure comp could be knocked. Excellent, Top Notch, Great. Mark your support for using Sony Alpha cameras is unmatched. I am a photographer that has chosen Sony and wants to get the most from them. I really don't care about comparing one brand to another. All brands make good equipment and all that matters to me is getting the shot. You have done such a great job figuring out the best settings for disparate situations allowing me to rotate a dial to the best setup for my needs and then just spend my creative energy getting the subject in the frame and composed to my liking. Keep spending your time and energy getting the most from Sony and let others continually post their videos on why they are switching from brand X to brand Y. I will be the first to view your video about the A1 setup. Ron😎🤙

    • @sh8736
      @sh8736 3 года назад +1

      Canon doesn’t yet have good lenses for their mirror less yet for wildlife, they have an f11 from memory 800mm, so maybe Tony was trying to disable the 600mm f4 by having a teleconverter to make it match the canon R5? Am waiting for Mark Smith to test the A1 for wildlife as he’s an expert in this area and knows how to drive a Sony, and Nikon DSLR. Gordon from camera labs, does fair reviews of all systems I find points out the positives and the negatives in perspective. He did photograph tulips, but said this was his initial review and asked viewers what they would like tested. Being based in UK he ‘ll have plenty of opportunity to try out the low light capabilities 😀

    Great and clear review. I own the A9 and A7r4 and now exclusively use the 200-600mm on my A9. The A1 has some clear advantages for birding but it would be a major issue to me if it has similar challenges with the 200-600mm as I have seen with the A7r4. Sony has been very quiet on this topic and it would be a shame if there are problems here which they don't address because it would definitely stop people like me from investing in this camera. This is very well presented and I think it addresses all of the unfounded criticisms I have seen on the “shock jock” RUclips channels (one in particular ; )
    It’s unfortunate that the sophistication of some recent Alpha cameras puts them beyond the comprehension of some reviewers, who insist on comparing them to consumer alternatives. The Alpha 1 is a pro camera and should be viewed and understood as such. We all might be able to sit in the cockpit of an aircraft and recognize what a lot of the controls are designed to do, but only a pilot can fly it properly. You, Mark are the right person to be writing about the true capabilities of Sony Alpha professional cameras. Thank you for posting this in depth clarification of misinformation.

      "30 fps vs focus mode settings" is very well explained by Mark. Their(T&C) review was mainly focused on eye autofocus which can easily be fine-tuned with a software upgrade. T&C did not talk about the tech advantage of A1 over R5 like blackout-free EVF, 240 fps refresh rate..etc which is a hardware superiority. After watching Mark's video I am feeling more confident about my preorder :)

      @@aaalokrbl4 The question is, do those small advancement compared to all its cons in relation to the insane price make it a good purchase? Of course if you are invested in a system you probably will stay. But from an objective standpoint the alternatives are much more interesting. 240fps sounds amazing, but I am currently using my R5 in eco mode which makes it slower than it could be and even this is enough (I actually don't notice a difference with high speed mode) Blackout EVF is not a problem anymore with R5 and R6. For me those are not worth the price difference. But for example a intelligent focus that focuses even when the target is partly hidden or 5940 focus points vs 759 etc. From may personal opinion I would have placed the A1 (from a price point) around r5 or lower price from its features and how it compares. I am sure we will see a much better camera from Sony in their next iteration.

    Was very excited about the Alpha 1 but I am going to stay with what I've got for now as I don't shoot video at all.
    As far as the famous couple goes I thought you were very professional and tactful the way you refuted most of their silly statements regarding this camera, Honestly when he kept saying the lens was detaching he lost me I have used the combo he was using and no such problems.

    When a company brings out cutting edge technology it challenges the image maker to envisage new possibilities and further the gamut of perception & imaging. You have given an excellent rendition of this. Though the a7r4 works for what I do & even after a year and a half I still feel that I have not fully explored its full potential, the A1 is a compounded hybrid version of resolution-speed-video. As a viewer I look forward to seeing cutting edge work that comes from what this technology offers.

As I will be on a shoot with it in 2 days’ time, I want to hit the ground running, with a setup that is familiar from my previous Alpha cameras and takes into account the new possibilities that this camera offers. Looking at this excellent video (as all of Mark’s are), I realize that I can move my workflow up a notch.

    No questions you're top notch and your content is among the best. HOWEVER, you're a Sony Ambassador, so there's bias. Not saying you're intentionally introducing bias, but it's there no matter what. I agree with another commenter that the Northrups are having some issues with their review, but they own multiple brands of cameras and aren't paid or sponsored by any (at this time, to my knowledge), so they're at least "less" biased. So take each review with a grain of salt?

    • @timwithers2866
      @timwithers2866 3 года назад +3

      Exactly. From about 2017 to lash year when the Canon R5 came out, the Northrup’s and most other reviews were glowing about Sony, constantly praising them as the best options on the market, finding only minor flaws with the bodies and system in general. They also spent 2018-2020 telling consumers the EOS R & RP as being way behind Sony.
      Now they do one video where the Sony doesn’t come out miles in front of the Canon and Mark has the hide to label it as fake news. They both said the A1 was a brilliant camera, a camera that could get the job done in any situation. What Mark is upset about, is that they also said the Canon was probably a better option for most situations they used it in and certainly better value.
      I shoot Sony and I love the Sony camera products, but I’m also not so biased and pretentious to admit that the Canon R5 & R6 bodies look extremely capable and the RF glass is outstanding. It’s a shame so many people have this parochial loyalty to a brand that they take offence if a rival brand releases a good product. I guess it just mirrors society, confirmation bias, the echo chamber effect and some very very insecure people.

      I agree despite of the missteps Tony made in the past, I think them pointing out the front focusing of the human eye af and how it’s AF performance is affected by older lenses/teleconverters are legitimate concerns and has to be pointed out to inform the buyers.
      I do not see this as fake news. I own 2 a9 bodies and a host of Sony telephoto lenses for my birding.

    • @AlphaCreativeSkills
      @AlphaCreativeSkills  3 года назад +4

      How does a heating test showing ambient temperature show bias. How does a a photo of a pin-sharp eagles eye show bias, how does a fps test show bias. Are you suggesting my photographic evidence has been manipulated.

    • @AlphaCreativeSkills
      @AlphaCreativeSkills  3 года назад +5

      Fake News is when a reviewer claims that a camera is not capable of 30fps because they are not aware of the settings that serve to slow it down. Fake news is when you can get the camera to overheat (maybe because you accidentally left it by the heater in your home before running the test) but the camera doesn't actually overheat in 88°f. I do not offer opinion - I offer evidence. My opinion picked lasted 30 seconds at the end of the video encouraging some people not to upgrade if they don't need the performance.

    Great review! The camera looks to be a jack of all trades, master of most but at $6500 its too expensive for me as I don't need the video or connectivity that the A1 provides. If Sony wants to make the perfect camera for me, it would be a "dumbed down" version of the A1 that forgoes those and is more strictly a photography camera (minimal video and connectivity features) at around $4500. In the mean time I hope they update the firmware in the A7Riv to have the newer tracking, including bird AF.

    The idea of a shutter to keep the sensor dust free is valid, however using the fragile and expensive shutter mechanism to do so it a big risk. Perhaps a more robust simple shutter specifically designed for the purpose would be a better solution. Thanks for the great video Mark.
