I have a trunk like that. My great grandmother came to the US from Luxembourg with her trunk. I imagine a lone woman, packing what worldly goods she could fit in the trunk and then sailing by steamer ship to Ellis Island. What did she have to leave behind that she treasured? How to deal with the difficulties of navigating a new country? There is so much unspoken history in these old trunks. Thank you for preserving the history of the one you bought.
I love the trunk!! It’s going to be beautiful when cleaned up. Also the trellis is fabulous in your yard!! Great finds. Great video. Rob & Karen so many people love you guys!! Your doing great 🤗🤗
Hi I just recently started watching your UTube videos ...I love your softness and kindness to all the places you go...both are like two little kids in a candy store...boy I wish I had bumped into ur channel earlier..I bought a 1903 house 17 yrs ago and just cleaned the attic...so much stuff I had no use for so gave them all away....I would of send u guys pictures and if u liked it I would of gifted to u..well one more thing to clean out this coming spring will definitely keep u both in mind...I see the love u have for antiques...and u would appreciate it..keep shopping keep posting...love u....GB
Love the trunk. You should’ve tried to see if the tray from the other trunk would fit the one you bought😁. Come on guys! Close to 9K so let’s get them there. Don’t forget to subscribe👍🏻
SCTV was one of my favorite shows. I still watch clips on you tube. Bob and Doug are awesome! Although my daughter in law is Canadian and she doesn't appreciate it as much as I do. The trunk is awesone. 40.00 was an excellent deal.
I would've try to fit the tray from the other trunk and make a deal 🙃😊.. still a beautiful piece ✨👌💕 .. thanks for sharing sweethearts 😘 enjoy your weekend together ☀️😊
Love the old pictures in the bow top you guys bought. Just don't try to sell it at my local online auction where I tried to sell ours lol. I'm going to hang onto it and wait to try and sell it on Kijiji next summer as then the tourists from the city will be up to their cottages :).
I love the trunks , I got the smell out of mine my spraying it with white vinegar and leaving closed , it may take a few goes , I also use lavender oil too . What a bargain.
I love anything sun, moon, wind, stars...showing the elements. I would have taken the sun even if plastic. Stipple painting things make them look better. Than just brush stroking the paint on. Have done black with gold highlights around a relief but dry brush stipple it so its teeny tiny dots. I find paint sticks to odd surfaces better when stippled. Can layer up several colors to imitate granite etc.
I also own a trunk just like the trunk you guys just bought. The leather handle traps have broken off. I wish I knew how to fix it. Any suggestions? Mine was given to me by long time friends that have both passed now. I will give it to my niece when it's time. Rock On!!!
Good morning once again. Ooooooh the trunk!!!!! I'm a trunk junkie!!! So cute, old came back with the pictures inside, what a find! I have several, they hold a lot of stuff! It doesn't need much TLC, & will look great! Iv'e restored one, but most I just spit & polish, they retain their character that way. Nice going guys! I bet she would have come down on the chair if you made an offer, who knows? Thanks for the ride, bedst, Carol
@@carolreynolds3650 Hi Carol Just a random comment here, as you always have positive ones.🙂 If you comment on the top line (not under the last person's), more people will see them. Take care
Just started watching your channel. Seems more my style, like Curiosity Inc., or even Paper & Moose. You mentioned 1930s books were too new. What date range do you aim for? I watched your home video tour and you have a LOT of LARGE old books.
Hey Ernest! :D Yeah we used to go after books from the early 1900's, but have now been trying to find ones from the 1800's... as we've filled our bookshelves we now have to be pickier about the books we bring home. :)
I had so many trunks like that when I lived in Tepees and my gypsy-wagon. i don't remember what I did with them, probably gave them away. Too bad I didn't know you two back then or I would have given them to you and they would have had a good home!
LOL They get very dried out and brittle, and can easily rip as they're old old leather.. :) We purposely do NOT carry the trunks by the hand;es because of that. :D
The fat-top trunks are very common here. We find them a lot... so we have to be pickier, and just choose nicer more valuable ones. The tray *does* make it worth more than without the tray, but the rounded-top is still more desirable.
We mostly are out picking for our own collections, but sometimes Karen will find something to flip, to help pay for the haul, plus as we bring things into the house, we find we have to let things go, so as not to become hoarders. Right now when Karen sells something, she just uses a local buy/sell app like LetGo or OfferUp, but we are looking at setting up an Etsy shop this winter, and will start to offer our finds from the show for sale on our Etsy shop.
Yeah... for me (rob) it's the black button up vest that covers all the wires... it makes it seem like I wear black all the time, but really it's because the buttons can button around the camera, and hide my wires and camera harness. Because of that, pretty much every time you see me on camera, I'll have that black vest on.
Linda!! *THANKS FOR ASKING!!!* =D =D OK, so... If you were RICH and could AFFORD a nice fancy trunk with a hump, you had several advantages over the other travelers because: A) Your nice trunk was never at the bottom of a pile under thousands of pounds of other people's stuff, because the rounded top meant you couldn't PUT things on top. B) The rounded top trunk went to the TOP of the pile, meaning it was FIRST off the boat - while everyone else has to wait to get their stuff unloaded, the hump-back trunks were always first off.
I love the trunk!! It’s going to be beautiful when cleaned up. Also the trellis is fabulous in your yard!! Great finds. Great video. Rob & Karen so many people love you guys!! Your doing great 🤗🤗

My grandmother came from Germany with her trunk. Everything u said about your grandmother i thought the same of mine.
Can you imagine? Life would have been a lot harder back then.... Kids these days don't know how easy they've got it...

Why did you not get the smaller one too? Is it of lesser value? I thought it would be worth more with the tray.
The fat-top trunks are very common here. We find them a lot... so we have to be pickier, and just choose nicer more valuable ones. The tray *does* make it worth more than without the tray, but the rounded-top is still more desirable.

Just curious...do you wear anything except grey and black?

??? I’ve heard you comment in other vlogs ‘do you think someone will steal it?’ Have ppl come into your yard and stolen items?
Is it not sad that we have to say, I love that for our yard...how can we fix it, so no one steals it?...terrible.
