They practiced on my schools field and out band got to watch them. I felt like I could feel their energy. They seemed super committed and I could physically feel their sound. They hands down deserved 1st.
Jesus H Christ!!!!! the technique on those kids!!! not just the drums either, holy crap! Those guys are tight! I’ve been doing drum and bugle corps for 10 years, and I have rarely seen a high school band that clean that precise and that consistent! That baseline is sick!!! I’d love to look up their instructional staff ! Out freaking standing!
These kids are 14-18, the level they move and play at is INSANE. PHENOMENAL writing, hocket city all up and down the charts! 🥴🔥 Great energy throughout the entire show, you can tell there's an emphatic focus placed on marching a FULL show. (Cue, I Don't Get Tired by Kevin Gates 😂) Joe Hobbs, Banished and the entire percussion staff do a bangup job maxing out the sheets year after year. Congrats homies🐍 on all the success this season, and really...just keep setting the standard. 🥇🤙🏽
Wow that was amazing, and for a high school that was pretty well written parts My band's director also made the decision to have the snares play matched grip, they didn't like the idea of it but understood the point and practicality of it. We also didn't have the numbers you guys have
Congrats, JP, on another fine year of whipping the battery into shape. They just keep it strong year after year. Also congrats on a well-deserved UIL gold. The students nailed that finals performance and the judges rewarded them for it.
I could take time to nitpick certain spots I see that maybe spacing between players when marching is bad or someone has knees bent too much but you guys move so much and so fast I can’t help but just think that the few mistakes mean nothing compared to the good communication down the line and insane drill. My band made finals last year and aren’t there this year but you would blow us out of the water. Compared to other drumlines in BOA you also play a lot more. You deserve all the praise you receive!
Dang wish my band would give challenging music like this. My Tenor parts are 70% Eighth note diddles, 15% Rudiments(really the only rudiments in it are Paradiddles, Paradiddlediddles, single stroke roll, double stroke roll, and buzz roll. There is not a single flam in the show) 15% Buzz rolls and buzz presses. so many bars of check. I changed one of these bars full of eighth note triplets, added some diddles, 2 flam taps and it was instantly cooler. I also added a sweep in one part. The thing is, I have the chops to play hard things, my band directors, just give us the easiest crap to play for show. Now there is some things where it doesn't matter if you do it or not because it won't get you more points, like playing traditional grip on snare, but having a wide rudimental vocabulary and challenging parts to play really helps when scoring. I don't know why my directors choose to put in easy parts, they just do, and I don't know how to ask them to beef it up. But all in all, you guys sound great! keep it up!
I definitely wonder how the Vandegrift kids felt about it; tied Hebron at 19 (or was finals 21?). Ties are heartbreakers for both bands, IMO. Hard not to feel as though Hebron's music deserved a higher score for content, even though the Finals run was messy. You should hear Hebron's hornline in rehearsal; I didn't think a high school hornline could possibly play like that. Vandy put on a great show, though -- marching was better. These southern powerhouses are incredible. So fun to watch.
HO-LEEE COW! Seriously. Where is this school? I've been out of high school for 30 years. I was on my college snare line 25 years ago. The level at which the kids are playing now just blows my mind.
“Match grip🤢”🤓, it doesn’t even matter dude grow up. if it works with them and they sound this insane and clean, why even criticize them for it😂 these kids are better than 95% of other hs drumlines and although trad would be cool, it doesn’t make any difference.
@@santman2803 all is does is look cool. I'm 40, teaching for 20. I'm over traditional. I like the look of snares and tenors all doing the same thing with the same grip.
idk maybe it’s just me but in my opinion traditional grip would look cooler and prepare them better for drum core and college band. like none of this cleanliness and awesome quality really means anything you know? get it together 🙄
Traditional grip doesn’t give drumlines any more cool points, I’d rather have a line that plays concert grip and plays the show clean and well than one that usee traditional grip and risk the show being dirty. I’m glad this line chose concert as there were definitely some beginners on snare line that would’ve struggled greatly with traditional, especially with how demanding their book is skill wise.
Fantastic, once again! Congrats to all involved.
O.O

Wow super clean!!! Super fun to watch great job!
I love that book. Wish our composer could write some licks like that

I can’t imagine that this schools sports program can touch these kids. Good job y’all!
Wow,buen trabajo muchachos 👏👏👏
Just some perspective, I was in the exhibition band and I got nervous playing for these guys.
So much talent… great work 🙌🏻🙌🏻
great playing
It’s so weird seeing a line march matched grip versus traditional. Sounded good though 😎👍🏼
Dang you was really in the drill on that closer 😮
Had to assign myself midsets and everything
@@jpgagaza that’s a lost art but I know you got it. Congrats to the kids, Guru Hobbs and yourself 🤌🏾🤌🏾.
very nice clarity
