Great foot control by the timpanist
hell ya
It’s so satisfying to watch the marimbas do the chromatic exercise. They look so together. I just love it. Dude 8 years ago when I started percussion as a snare I never knew I would be an all around percussionist (drums and mallets). But here I am center marimba at my high school.
I would kill to be in a pit like this
Yes omg especially the fact that there are like 20 people
Mine used to be like 15 and good. Then things happened now we are at 8 and kinda suck.
Kent Fuller Yo wassup dude
5 man pit gang
I’m glad someone says “Yeah?” as much as I do.
that timpani player prolly drives good
💀
Such incredible precision and kinesthetic memory required to play marimbas! And do they have one at home to practice on? I’m amazed at the talent and dedication to learn this instrument by these young folks! Kudos!
Unfortunately the more common case is that most kids don't have instruments at home. Some programs are nice enough to let kids take them home over breaks, but that's not the case everywhere. So some kids might come in their band rooms and practice during lunch or after school. However a new company recently popped up called Synced Up Designs. They sell tarps with accurately measured bars and note names. It's a much cheaper solution to help with note accuracy. The have one for 4, 4.3, 4.6, and 5.0 octave marimba. They also have one for vibes, xylo, and even glock. I'd imagine most kids are using those nowadays.
@@brothaNblue yeah I got one from McCormick. I just need a place to lay it out while I stand
Why do I look like a duck when playing, this hurts
Alex May are you a duck? :0
i could watch a foot cam of the timpanist all day
Does anyone know the name of the chromatic exercise that they start at 12:30 is called? I can kind of piece it together, but it's hard with the timpani camera being most prominent camera.
Why do they look in left side before and after playing note ?
They use motions of their mallets to silently communicate time with each other before they start playing so that they all start playing at the exact same time. Even though there is a metronome in this video, it's good practice for when they eventually go without the met.
What's the block chord exercise that starts ~10:40?
I would like to know this too!
I know part of it is a Falling 5ths exercise? The rest could be transcribed
I know I’m a little late, but we had this very exercise as a lot tune called “fall meadows”! If you still want the music, I could link it
@@christianhaile5588link it pls
@@christianhaile5588do you mind sending me the exercise?
What is this warm up called?
Lockjaw
@@connormcelroy1552 thanks
No problem
Is that normal timpani playing?
do they compete in the wgi circuit?
Nope, LISD school don't
@@zach.a.fields thats a shame because they could have an amazing indoor program
@@jasonstone6134 indoor isnt/hasnt really been a thing for our district for various reasons, but I'd be VERY interested to see how Vandy would do in the wgi circuit
Texas hates WGI, and that’s a fact
@@calebbenton367 zero fact in that. We have several WGI finalists, medalists and even independent and scholastic champions here.
is that warmup the same as the bluecoats one? at least the first exercise?
Most groups use it as a nice vertical stroke exercise. Their scales are not major, but its the same rhythm
Their poor wrists
Imagine needing a metronome to do some like this #sevenlakespit
(P.S. just kidding, great job vandegrift)
no shot I just randomly found you on a comment section in a vid on my reccommended whilst I was procrastinating a major grade project at midnight.
oh this is a diff acc but this is swarnim
