Chimp Haven to the Rescue - The Journey of Five Chimpanzees

- Pierre, Flick, Murphy, JoJo and Doc, five chimpanzees infected with the HIV virus and hepatitis, spent many years of their lives in biomedical research laboratories. They were moved from one laboratory to another until they were sent to the Wild Animal Orphanage which was supposed to be their final home. When it went bankrupt last year, 11 of the orphanage's uninfected chimpanzees found homes, but there was no facility equipped to take these five infected chimpanzees. Chimp Haven, a sanctuary in northwest Louisiana that cares for nearly 130 chimpanzees-many of them infected-was eager to take them, but needed funding to build their habitat and pay for their care. Game show host Bob Barker stepped in to pay for half of the construction and a year's worth of care. But Chimp Haven still has to raise $200,000 to finish construction of the chimpanzees' new home and habitat, along with funds to continue their care.

As bad as it is these chimpanzees gave everything so that we may have cures for diseases so you may have safe makeup to wear or cleaning products or safe medications without the sacrifice of these beautiful animals none of us would have any of that stuff. Just thank God that Congress has done one good thing in their life and passed a moratorium in 2016 that bands all testing medical bio or any kind and that any chimp and any lab every single one of them is to be retired into a sanctuary. They will at least get the live the last parts of their lives in comfort and be with other chimpanzees like they're meant to be.

Well yes and no they were supposed to be picked up by one company and they didn't show up because the lab had closed but yes they infect them with HIV but chimpanzees don't get sick with the AIDS virus like humans do but they can spread HIV 2 humans. Hepatitis is different they suffer from the effects of that chimpanzees have 98% of human DNA and are our closest relatives out of all the great apes.

Have you tried milk thistle? It's a liver cleanser. It comes in capsule and tea form. Since their DNA is so close to ours, it should help. I've heard wonderful things about it.

@@magicmoney9653 from my understanding, they've only started behaving this way, in recent years. Which begs the question of why. We just have to look at all the poaching and killing of chimps, that man has done, to see the end result. Funny, how affectionate, kind and caring they can be, with people they know they can trust.

I was waiting for the new chimps to be release but I only saw film of the old ones. I thought the point of the video was to see them free by I never did. But at least they are free.
They are free they've been kept in 5 by 8 cages or rooms with concrete walls for 20-30 years some of them never seeing the Sun or a tree or grass or another chimpanzee for 30 years can you imagine? So this place is like heaven to them yes they're kept in can find cages to sleep and play at night but those cages are huge the ones at the lab were barely big enough to fit the chimpanzee inside of the areas that they sleep they put twenty and thirty champs in there and they still have plenty of room it's like the size of a gymnasium most of them. They are wet outside all day everyday they are fed better than they have ever been fed in their lives better than they would eat in the wild. And most importantly they get to live out the rest of their lives with other chimpanzees in comfort and never be poked and prodded or have their babies taken from them or infected with diseases ever again.
Welcome to your new life... Of more captivity. Sad. Wild animals should not be kept in captivity....

They’ll keep them apart from the healthy chimps. Most likely they’ll be kept with other chimps who already have their diseases, since they need companionship.

Support whatever cause is closest to your heart. But you do realize that we will NEVER solve all of humanities problems... utopia doesn't exist. And frankly, sending the message that its ok to abuse animals, that we should not care for and rehabilitate the ones that we've tortured because "animals are lesser then us" just makes it more likely that humanity will continue its cycle of hate and fear. You have to have compassion for ALL living things before you can truly have compassion for each other.
bellona6356 you do not need to have compassion for a frog in order to have compassion for the humans around you. You especially don't have to have compassion for ALL living things to have compassion for the people around you. What you said is one of those things that people say because they think that it sounds good or incisive. It does not, nor does it make any sense. Just trying to sound clever, huh? Didn't work. In fact, I feel more empathy for animals than I do most humans.
You disagree? Quite fine. I still don't think that nullifies my argument. If you have no compassion for a frog, and have no sympathy if its tortured or killed, then I find it very hard to believe that you are some kind of honorable, compassionate humanist. I'm not a vegan. I believe in the circle of life. However, I fail to see how anyone that can hurt an animal (unless swiftly done for survival) can also be some great humanist. Animals suffer too. So I think it's very logical to assume that one must have some DEGREE of compassion for ALL living life. Not showing that, and making excuses to treat animals like experiments to use to whatever extent we want, is a horrible excuse for speciesism. But you generally have more compassion for animals you say? Okay, great! That still doesn't undercut my argument that a baseline of respect must exist for all life. It is not beneficial to teach our children that animals are disposal puppets. We all feel pain, we all die. If that doesn't warrant equality, then I don't know what does.
To solve the "human" problems we have to be responsible for what we cause, as humans caused hunger, poverty and even disease with man made viruses and diseases that are modified in the labs... We caused suffering to these animals we must learn to at least act a bit decent and provide them good lives after their "service" - read sacrifice they unwillingly had to give for us.
Humans ARE the problem dumbass. When you die things will be better on this planet
