- Sweet and Sour Tofu is made by sautéing pre fried tofu in a sauce made with ginger, onions, garlic, bell peppers, sugar, soy sauce, ketchup, starch, apple cider vinegar, salt and pepper. INGREDIENTS
1 block of tofu
2 pieces bell peppers
1 medium-sized onion (sliced)
2 cloves of garlic (minced)
1 thumb-size ginger
3 tablespoons brown sugar
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1/3 cup water
1 tablespoon ketchup
1 tablespoon starch
salt and pepper to taste
DIRECTIONS
Prepare the tofu and cut them into small squares.
For the sweet and sour sauce, combine the brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, ketchup, soy sauce and water in a small bowl. Mix well.
Heat some oil in a pan and fry the tofu cubes until golden brown and crispy. Stir a bit to cook the other sides. Transfer them into a container.
Remove most of the oil in the pan. Saute the ginger, onions, garlic and bell-peppers for a few minutes.
Add the sweet and sour sauce and the slurry. Stir gently until the sauce thickens. Season with salt and pepper.
Add the fried tofu cubes back to the pan. Toss gently to coat with the sauce.
Transfer the sweet and sour tofu in a serving plate. You may make some papak or eat it with hot steaming rice. Enjoy!
