I think a lot of bands nowadays are releasing so many songs before the actual album and then when the actual album comes, you get like 3 to 4 songs and it doesn’t feel like an actual album because you heard most of it already with the singles
@@kevinhuey8763 I mean, if bands wanna do this, I don’t hate, but I don’t like it. I personally would rather two singles and then an album but when you’re putting out like three, four, five songs before an album, it’s just makes the actual overall album not good for me haha
They should not have released Oscillator and Mana God as singles. I enjoyed this album a lot, but I’ve played all the singles to death so most of it felt stale already. I will probably like it more in retrospect after I’ve cooled on the singles and they feel fresh again
@@nachocheez9690 A band releases music with the intent of their fans listening to it. And if it’s good music, a fan will listen to it a lot. And even if I only listened to them once, that removes the “first listen” experience, which is part of the magic of listening to an album
I really liked How to Survivor a Funeral, maybe its just me but I love this new album. The songs are great and I really felt "no hard feelings". It hit me in the same place that "erase me" hit.
I'm new to this band, the first song I heard by them was epitaph, so I'll say I'm coming from a newer fans prospective. But I really liked this album a lot. The songs were really solid to me.
The enerfy that comes from these riffs, and songs, this is what I needed in metalcore. It feels like listening to an explosion, this is EXACTLY the music I needed
They've 100% re-mixed Doomswitch, the bass and kick drum in the intro is WAY louder than the original version. Listen to the intro side by side and it's very apparent. You're not the only one who noticed this.
They did, and Ghost Of Me also. That's because they weren't thought as part of an album yet. Epitaph it the first that came out with the album mix, noticed it as soon as it dropped. I think the first mix was better, less highs, but I get that they do it for coherence since the difference is subtle, it would have been strange. When the production switch completely, i feel you can leave it, but if it just changes slightly, redoing makes sense to me
Yeah him going back on what he said made me confused, it’s clearly different lol the kick’s also don’t sound as flat in this mix compared to the previous.
The only thing i can say is that nothing can top Boundaries this year and it was like 7 months ago. It's crazy what the are doing since YRW dropped, hella underrated. I like to mention even the Counterparts EP that was only 2 days ago.😂 Crazy shit too.
It took me three listens to DIALM and to read the lyrics before I got it, but when I got it my GOD did I get it. Jumped up from 5th place to AOTY for me easily. Nothing that has come out this year has made me feel like that album did
My only "knock" against KL is that a lot of the songs on the album are similar in sound, whereas other albums like Boundaries, and especially Allt and BMTH are varied
record labels/bands really need to stop releasing half the album before its release. it was so tough and not really fun listening to it. ghost of me stays my favourite.
This album has some good songs, but I don't think it will stick. Boundaries still hold the AOTY imo. Coming back to it after 1 month just makes you realize how good it is.
@@Cardboardcutout81 Nah, expectations for it were too high after first two singles. It's pretty good, but definitely can't top knocked loose or boundaries
It kind of all feels...the same? I think it's the mix of the riffs being reused and the synths being so prominent that everything feels like it's trying to be part of the Doom soundtrack.
I get what you're saying. Some of my friends said the same thing about Currents "The Death We Seek". The only thing that I loved the sound of that album so much, that it didn't bother me at all. Here, I feel they just released to many singles to keep the sound intertesting for me. That doesn't mean the album is bad.
@@oscaryanezzavala there's a difference between having a distinct sound that carries through each soing, and having songs that have riffs so similar that when you first hear a song you think it's a different song
Wish there was more songs that weren’t released. Even then it’s still a good album imo Edit: drums are very simplistic and samey for the most part on this album maybe that’s where it flatlines for you
Disagree on the drums. I think that ol' Bogdan has just listened to so much modern metalcore, that he's finding himself uninterested in anything that isn't "moving the genre forward", so to speak. This album does not do that. It does, however, tick all of the boxes on what makes a metalcore album great, re-listenable and likely to stand the test of time... whereas a lot of these metalcore albums that people say "potential AOTY!" about, are worthy of maybe 2-3 listens, then I forget they exist.
@ genre saturation could be true. the drums are much more uninspired to me than on How To Survive A Funeral but that’s all i can find eh about the album i like it overall
The kick tone on How To Survive A Funeral bothered me so much that I actually never made it through the entire album. 😅 "Uninspired" seems harsh. There are a lot of intricacies, little things going on that make the drums on this album interesting to me. Yes, the drums, guitar and bass are all very much in-sync with each other, which I do believe can sometimes keep the drumming from standing out, but I think it fits the vibe of the album very well.
Songs 7 to 11 are where album actually engages me. First six songs are just.....the same. A lot of people are talking about how most singles of the album were released already and that affecting the album. But the reason this is valid is because they stacked 4 singles back to back (Oscillator to Epitaph). I don't know why they did not space them out. Like Ghost of Me fits well because the song before and after are completely new to us.
I'm on the same lines as you and a lot of others. Some good songs, good ideas, but overall some parts felt disjointed and like they didn't work together. A lot of reused riffs, attempts at merging older sounds with this new digitised synthy feel which just ends up overwhelming everything, less synths, better variety in guitar work and more orchestral themes like Epitaph and would definitely like this album a lot more. A major point to note as well is the lack of piano, which over the years became one of their main motifs and separated them from the rest of the bands in the scene, just near on completely removed that for synths. In terms of quality, it's a good sounding album, but in terms of songwriting and impact? Well below standard and doesn't even come close to AOTY. Heard a lot of Worlds Apart in this as well but like a worse version of it and couldn't connect with it.
Didn't listen to any of the singles other than Doomswitch when it first released, so honestly I don't think the album is bad as it's all a first listen, mostly just because I really like Sean as a vocalist
I liked it more than you but I also see what you’re saying with your frustrations. I also agree the last two songs stood out. They had a 90s vibe in melody choice that I would have liked to see them mess with more. But overall I still think this is a solid record and I’ll be listening to it a lot.
Their last album is one of my favorites of all time, but this one just feels like a much lazier endeavor. The riffs are so samey across the whole thing that it becomes such a blur. Just sad after waiting so long that we get something that doesn’t really hold up to their own standards :/
I'm new to this band so this is coming from a new fan, but I really liked this album, I'm going to check out their other music now too, but I really did enjoy this one. But this is from a new fans perspective.
right with you... i've completely grown out of this super polished modern metalcore sound. when atmosphere and electronics become a priority in the mix i just can't get into it. there are moments and certain riffs that definitely work (ghost of me is a song i quite like), but it's all just too overproduced. also i think they focused too much on making sure there was cleaning singing on every song. alex is a great vocalist, and sean's moment on venusian blues was a nice; i'm mostly complaining about the writing and song structure.
Unpopular opinion:: they should of never fired bookah. Having just re listened to how to survive a funeral it feels like a way more cohesive album in comparison
I was kind of let down by this album. It’s definitely a MTS album as far as the sound, but all the songs kind of blended together for me. The mix definitely wasn’t as good as their last album either. I’d say like 7/10
Honestly this album stinks, I didn't like how some songs they literally repeated the riffs, flow ect. In the same category as while she sleeps sadly ☹️
For me it's def. not like the recent Currents album, where every single song is listed as "favourite track" on my Spotify, but also not as bad as the last BMTH album, from which I maybe liked 2 songs. It's a 50/50 thing... some are good, some feel a bit static / boring to me. Overall some solid tracks, but I'd love more experiments of them.
This album, following Worlds Apart and How to survive a funeral, 2 of my favourite albums of all time didnt have it easy. I definetly share your thoughts, thar alot of the songs blend together bc of synths and samey riffs. Although i didnt like it as much, it does give me hope for the future, bc some of the songs are just absolute bangers.
Man, im all for bands experimenting and changing their sound and trying new things, but this just aint it for me man. Im happy for the people that enjoy it but i have a hard time seeing this as the same band that made the Lord of Woe EP, Neverbloom and Old Souls... Its strayed a bit to far from their early sound for me.
I hate using the term overproduced, but I really feel it here. It almost feels like these tracks were so touched up to the point where it doesn't even feel like a human recording. The mix doesn't help either, it's so lifeless and cold The songs themselves are great, especially in the second half once we start getting some variety in the sound, but again, the production and mix on this record REALLY bring it down
Yeah it's not bad, but also not great. A solid 7/10 for me. I'm big on the front to back experience, so it just didn't hit for me listening like that, but on shuffle in a playlist I can see myself enjoying these songs a lot more. Similar to Currents' most recent work
I wouldn't say I was disappointed on first listen. But, I definitely felt underwhelmed. After several more listens, the album has actually grown on me to the point that I think my overall impression is good. No Hard Feelings is my favorite track with Doomswitch being a close second.
The production mix on Doomswitch, Ghost of me and Epitaph did change it was also applied to the singles version. The singles used to have this punch to it before the change of mix.
I'll be honest. I let people opinions affect me on this one. Pretty much all the reviews I've seen are mixed and that's from people I agree with most of the time... There hasn't been much positivity surrounding this album which sucks, because it was in my most anticipated ones. I'll obviously still spin it, but yeah, it's disappointing.
Ive been wondering why the response to this album is so lukewarm and this video finally made me realize why. This album is 100% made for the casual listener. Heavy, groovy, insane uncleans from sean, beautiful cleans from alex, amazing production.. if you just listen to this music to hear it, its amazing. if you listen to it to analyze how many times a riff repeats, if the song structure is predictable, if the drums are mixed a bit flat... yeah you wont enjoy it. its a very formulaic album
I did really enjoy the album all in all, but I'd be lying if I said I could consider this AOTY and that's hard for me to say. I wanted so badly for it to be an AOTY contender given how much I loved their discography, but unfortunately they couldn't top HTSAF or Worlds Apart for me. I think Like Moths to Flames, AVRALIZE, In Hearts Wake and Boundaries will remain my AOTY contenders. But even those bands are among 10-15 other album releases that were just fantastic this year. Between last year and this year we're really eating good in this genre. Thanks Bogdan for directing me to do many phenomenal bands this year that I'd no idea about beforehand that have now become so major to me.
Same reaction as you man, i just didn't understand new make them suffer after worlds apart and funeral, feels like its step back for them. I think it's because booka has left band, she was beautiful and make this contrast of heaviness and chill choruses
I enjoyed this album much more on the second listen. The first listen it was all about whether it would live up to the hype and expectations but if you just take it for what it is, it’s fantastic
First listen was just for the sound, 2nd was for the feel, and ngl it’s been on repeat last few days since it’s dropped easily 10+ full listens I think it’s a very solid album 9.5/10 really finding their niche which makes mts mts, I think this will continue to grow like how wage wars album grew on me. Didn’t like it when it dropped until about 5-6 listens through I began to enjoy it
I get why this album is criticised but to me it's what I need and what I want: Groovy riffs, breakdowns, the back and forth between Sean and Alex. Stuff that moves me and get's me hyped when I'm down or at the gym especially without getting octane-ish. I even like the callbacks to other songs and saved Oscillator and Mana God for when they released the full album. All the best wishes to MTS and I hope they continue to amaze and motivate me with their music
Not sure if this will help, but I put Funeral, Contraband, and the S/T on the same CD and listened to it at work. I could hear the development. It seems like the new one feels like they are in a better place mentally.
I agree with your sentiment, there’s certainly a different Make Them Suffer era that most people are probably already attached to including myself. I did love all the singles, but not the typical new songs that people are commenting about on Instagram. I just don’t hear it. I think Weaponized is the absolute most slept on new song on this record and I didn’t see anyone liking it. Sick main riff, beautiful cleans, well structured. Overall, I want more songs lol.
I find MTS is one of those bands where their singles are the strong points for me personally then the album comes out and it's alright. I was never really mindblown over this band honestly. Boundaries album still hold's #1 for me for metalcore AOTY! \m/
Have you heard their older albums though? Neverbloom was the oldest album by far. Listen to Widower, Elegies and it will blow your mind straight away. And blood moon from the old souls album, I can confidently say those songs are not only mass appealing but also some of the best metalcore songs. They used to be symphonic Metalcore/Deathcore in their earlier days
Idk if you were tripping about the Doomswitch mix, I thought the same thing when I went through the album earlier. Maybe they went back and changed the upload of the music video?
No no I thought the mix was different on Doomswitch too. They definitely changed it. Maybe in the RUclips version as well. (No idea if they can do that)
I vibe with the album for sure, I dig the MTS sound they're going for. It's not my favourite release this year but I really enjoy songs like Mana God, Ghost of Me and Tether. Riffs are super tight and crushing, and when it hits it really hits. I do think sometimes the slowed-down chorus they seem to put into every song just doesn't work with the rest of it, and that's my biggest gripe with it; would love to see the band experiment with song structure more. That criticism is quite common for me though, it's my main problem with a lot of metal albums these days.
Maybe, just maybe they'll pivot back to the old days. Whitechapel is doing it, so there's hope🤞🏻. I enjoyed the album more than I did Worlds Apart. I need a Neverbloom continuation and throw in Hollowed Heart 🙏
Idk, it’s probably the mix, but all the songs sound so .. layered? Almost every song feels like I am listening to 2 songs at the same time. Really don’t like this album. Edit: when I compare this with the Counterparts EP, than I can’t honestly give more than a 4/10 for this lol
Love the warning and weaponized.. lost my earbud on new circle road this morning riding a bike to my clinic.. thank goodness i found it and no cars ran over it.. fucked my head up for a bit though.. haha!
I think you may be a little bit burnt out bro, especially having heard most the songs previously. I reckon you would have really enjoyed No hard feelings and Venusian Blues more, as the mix of 90’s rock and metalcore is super fresh sounding. Dunno man, just feel like you were a bit tired going into this 😅
Yeah, if most of your critique is "It's the same riff as the last song", then you either don't understand how albums work or you just need to get some sleep.
Big agree. I only recently got into this band around when How To Survive A Funeral came out, and I was so hype for the follow-up. That album was full of so many riffs and crazy moments where they let the music breathe. The ending portion of That’s Just Life is some of the most satisfying guitar work I’d heard in a long time. Hard to believe the guitarist that wrote that wrote this album too.
I love this band so much but yeah; I share your sentiments here man. I went critical on them as well, and summarized my thoughts - 1. Both Sean and Alex take their shot at flexing their top tier vocal ranges. 2. The consistency of the electronic infused sound still stands out, but at the same time keeps overshadowing the overall sound, making it sound very similar, and at times, irritating throughout the album. 3. The drumming is super weak on this album IMO, and at times feels like it’s just computerized drums. 4. Call me crazy, but very Amy Lee-like vocals from Alex on Tether and on outro part of Small-Town Syndrome. Obviously not the same grit and inflexion as Amy, but really reminded me of one particular song by Evanescence (i.e., Call Me When You Are Sober) 5. The album's overall flow and pacing isn’t bad, but the tempo is very samey throughout the album without any breaks or slower moments allowing some breathing room for vocals or instrumentals to stand out. 6. No Hard Feelings was a much needed and a very well written switch up, but again, the tempo felt off. It could have easily been the equivalent of The Attendant of this album. 7. I'm not a huge fan of the 100% third person lyrical style of writing. No variety in that department. 8. Ghost of Me and Doomswitch were start of a new era, but they couldn’t perfect the sound again except for Small Town Syndrome, which as you said, we needed more of. The singles this year were weak. 9. So yeah, the riffs man. They're solid but very samey throughout most of the album. 10. Speaking of which, the overall theme of the album didn't really stand out, nor did it resonate with me like it did last time around on HTSAF. 11. Not really any memorable moments on the album either. Not a fan of more than 3 singles released before the album drop, so some experience ruined there as well. 12. Tether - a very solid non-single but I honestly hated that outro. Still a solid 3 track run to end the otherwise underwhelming album. Overall, still a decent album and way better than a lot of stuff I have heard this year. Just felt a little underwhelmed for not really having any memorable moments. Small Town Syndrome is a banger though and easily my favorite non-single. That chorus is everything with a perfect mix of Alex's and Sean's beautiful vocals. I would really love to see more of that in the future. For now, besides STS, Ghost of Me is still the best song off of the album. Fingers crossed that they finally do a North America headliner and my third time seeing them live is for a longer setlist ha-ha, given they stop by Toronto in there.
When i first listened to the album Doomswitch vs the original release, i noticed it was different too. It actually sounds like they redid some of the drum parts for it. Could be wrong though
I was super deep into Make Them Suffer for quite awhile. And there are parts in songs from this album that I really like. But, overall the constant riffing, or similar sounding riffs with electronics going nuts behind it, makes it all sound the same. I also agree that Ghost of Me is still the outlier and my favorite. I'm glad on Tether Alex got some more solo time and I've been eager to hear her have more cleans and uncleans. But, this is like a 7/10 overall for me and I wish they'd stop releasing so much as singles and have some variation in the electronics and lead
They should’ve only released 2-3 singles if their album is 10 (11) songs long. It should’ve been Doomswitch, Ghost of Me then maybe Epitaph. Just feels like we’ve heard the whole album already before it was released
MTS has been my favorite band of all time since I first heard Let Me In. I can't name a single song I don't like from them. Every single time they've released a new album, I listened to it on repeat for 8-11 hours (depending on how long my work day was) and loved every second of it every time. I listened to this album once and felt like that was enough. I'm still adding the entire thing to my Playlist but it seriously feels like it lacks the heart and soul that their previous albums had. Maybe it's because they've been around so long or maybe it's because of the new member wanting to go in a slightly different direction. Whatever it is, it just felt kind of...... empty? Releasing 60% of the album as singles over the last 2 years didn't really help either.
I'm loving this album, but if I'd banged the hell out of all the singles, I probably wouldn't as much. In this new age, I try to avoid listening to all the singles drops of bands I usually enjoy. It definitely helps when listening to a new album, otherwise it's just - yeah I heard this one already. I've only listened to 3 of these singles 1-2 times before, which kept it very fresh.
I think it’s a good album from beginning to end, but there definitely is a lot of redundancy to some extend and I think even the order of songs makes it hard to enjoy the individual songs as much as possible when you have just heard a similar riff or vocal pattern for example
Agree on last track. But I liked Oscillator as well, it's very rhytmical. Overall it's a decent fill to my library I guess, but also I don't think I would listen to it start to finish that often - too monotonous - rather on shuffle with other music.
I think it was a great album but the thing is that doomswitch/ghost of me is so well done and way over a certain level of quality that it makes us appreciate the other ones less.
I feel like this album lacked in the "theming" department. Old Souls had a very clear theme, Worlds Apart had a very clear theme, How To Survive a Funeral had a very clear theme, and this just kinda didn't really have a theme other than "Riffcore" to me, which isn't really a theme. The other albums were so good because it was quality metalcore ontop of a great underlying production and audio/visual theme, but this album really didn't have that for me. It was "okay" overall, but especially compared to their discography and the 4 year wait, this album might be a little forgettable in a year or two, at least to me.
Interestingly i thought the same thing about the production, went and bought the flac on bandcamp and the mix is good there imo. Also like the album a lot tho so my opinion might be jaded.
My first listen left me a bit disappointed. Especially the block of 4 singles in a row was annoying to get through because I wanted to hear the NEW stuff. I think the second half of the album is AWESOME. I really like Venisuian Blues, No Hard Feelings and Tether and I also think Ghost of Me was the strongest single. On second and third listen I enjoyed the album more because it didn't feel like I have to get through a lot of songs that I already know to get to the new stuff. I like the Album, it has some good stuff in it but its not as exciting as I had hoped it would be.
Because of high expectations, the overall impression of this album is a little bit meh. It doesn't beat the previous one which was just brilliant. I haven't heard anything new or fresh. I would like to love it more.
I personnally think that it wasn't a great idea to put the singles in the first half, since everybody listening to the album would have to sit through 15 minutes of songs that they have already heard... Its a shame because i think the second half of the album specifically was great!
All of the comments about too many singles are correct felt like I'd heard half the album already :/ The production on this album is definetely weird, I don't think it serves the album I think with the right production this album would be their best aside maybe neverbloom. This album feels like them pulling from all the sounds from the last few albums which makes it a really good self titled imo As it stands third or fourth overall, controversially I think this is better than how to survive a funeral Didn't think it'd happen but Allt might have replaced MTS as my go to band Edit: loved the lil edits through-out the reaction :)
This album is like eating out on restaurant when you’re on vacation, delicious, but I’m probably not going back anytime soon. I overhyped the album for myself, that’s definitely my fault. Not as good as I thought it was gonna be.
I wish I loved this, but it feels half-assed. It’s Ctrl+C/Crtrl+V the whole way through songwriting wise and feels more like a vehicle for singles, plus doing a self-titled this late in your career feels like there just wasn’t much passion in doing a record honestly.
Yeah, the drums sound incredibly boring. Nothing annoys me more in modern metalcore than when the drums sound like they've been totally overlooked in the mix, they're such a huge part
I’ve listened to the singles and I can’t really say anything, like, these songs are the same, every time we have that “heavy” sound in verses and than, there goes that usual chorus. They first time I’ve heard them was in 2020 when they released their “erase me” single, back then it felt like something new, something interesting and exciting, but now, I’ve heard it so many times that I just don’t care, this kind of sound should appeal to your emotions, but there are no emotions for me
I think a lot of bands nowadays are releasing so many songs before the actual album and then when the actual album comes, you get like 3 to 4 songs and it doesn’t feel like an actual album because you heard most of it already with the singles
exactly how i feel, when you hear a majority of the album before it comes out and then theres realistically only 2-3 new songs it sucks ngl lol
especially cuz doomswitch is already 2 years old
@@kevinhuey8763 I mean, if bands wanna do this, I don’t hate, but I don’t like it. I personally would rather two singles and then an album but when you’re putting out like three, four, five songs before an album, it’s just makes the actual overall album not good for me haha
the same happened to ALLT, just like 3 new songs and the rest was all the previous released songs
That’s why the new counterparts is so rad. I miss the days of just listening to a brand new album all the way through and having no idea what’s next.

When the production switch completely, i feel you can leave it, but if it just changes slightly, redoing makes sense to me
Yeah him going back on what he said made me confused, it’s clearly different lol the kick’s also don’t sound as flat in this mix compared to the previous.
noticed it on my soundbar in my house too, the kick drum fucking HITS now lol
i thought it sounded a bit different
Yea listening to the album at midnight last night I noticed a different mix myself
The only thing i can say is that nothing can top Boundaries this year and it was like 7 months ago. It's crazy what the are doing since YRW dropped, hella underrated.
I like to mention even the Counterparts EP that was only 2 days ago.😂 Crazy shit too.
Either Boundaries or Knocked Loose has AOTY for me.
My top 3 is Knocked Loose, 156/Silence, Boundaries. Year of hardcore
People forgetting alpha wolf bruh, mine is 1: cane hill 2:alpha wolf 3: allt
Last two songs were easily my favorite. Most like how to survive a funeral and had worlds apart vibes which is severely underrated.
facts bro
record labels/bands really need to stop releasing half the album before its release. it was so tough and not really fun listening to it.
ghost of me stays my favourite.
Solid album, but nothing this year will top People Watching by 156/Silence imo
in hearts wake new album also is one of the TOP
156/silence is probably my AOT it’s so good
Boundaries already did mate
Boundaries 100%
the heavy parts and ambient/spoken/rapped sections on that album are insane but I thought the cleans absolutely derailed it
This album has some good songs, but I don't think it will stick. Boundaries still hold the AOTY imo. Coming back to it after 1 month just makes you realize how good it is.
156/Silence also up there for me alongside Boundaries.
@@Cardboardcutout81 Nah, expectations for it were too high after first two singles. It's pretty good, but definitely can't top knocked loose or boundaries
Like Moth To Flames is really the only album that comes close to Boundaries for me.
Imminence for me AOTY
It kind of all feels...the same? I think it's the mix of the riffs being reused and the synths being so prominent that everything feels like it's trying to be part of the Doom soundtrack.
Vernusian blues and no hard feelings defintley are my favorite songs off the album, and ghost of me too
Venusian Blues reminds me of Worlds Apart album and I love it so much
So many of the riffs sound so similar on first listen and so many of the songs have too similar of vibes....it just feels so samey
What band sound so different and every album???
I get what you're saying. Some of my friends said the same thing about Currents "The Death We Seek". The only thing that I loved the sound of that album so much, that it didn't bother me at all. Here, I feel they just released to many singles to keep the sound intertesting for me. That doesn't mean the album is bad.
@@oscaryanezzavala there's a difference between having a distinct sound that carries through each soing, and having songs that have riffs so similar that when you first hear a song you think it's a different song
Wish there was more songs that weren’t released. Even then it’s still a good album imo
Edit: drums are very simplistic and samey for the most part on this album maybe that’s where it flatlines for you
Disagree on the drums.
"Uninspired" seems harsh. There are a lot of intricacies, little things going on that make the drums on this album interesting to me. Yes, the drums, guitar and bass are all very much in-sync with each other, which I do believe can sometimes keep the drumming from standing out, but I think it fits the vibe of the album very well.
Venusian Blues just makes me want more Onslowwwwww 😤
Onslow❤❤❤❤
Same, makes a big difference avoiding other songs, whole album is fresh and singles hit for me at a greater level
Looking at the album as an experience, its okay. Looking at it as a compilation of singles that fucking slap, its pretty good.
100 percent agree.
Unpopular opinion:: they should of never fired bookah. Having just re listened to how to survive a funeral it feels like a way more cohesive album in comparison
Honestly, I loved this album so much, all the songs connected with me and it’s become my new favorite make them suffer album
Tether has a breakdown full nasty
I was kind of let down by this album. It’s definitely a MTS album as far as the sound, but all the songs kind of blended together for me. The mix definitely wasn’t as good as their last album either. I’d say like 7/10
Exactly my feelings too, solid 7/10
Even the metalcore songs like Fake and Blood Moon sounded much better.
The tether chorus reminds me of how to survive a funeral a lot
I hate using the term overproduced, but I really feel it here. It almost feels like these tracks were so touched up to the point where it doesn't even feel like a human recording. The mix doesn't help either, it's so lifeless and cold
The songs themselves are great, especially in the second half once we start getting some variety in the sound, but again, the production and mix on this record REALLY bring it down
I wouldn’t call it AOTY or anything but I think the whole album is solid and I’d enjoy any song if it came up on shuffle in my library
Too many singles, but the album is pretty great. No Hard Feelings is the best song they’ve put out since 2020 imo.
Back to Counterparts!
Idk if you were tripping about the Doomswitch mix, I thought the same thing when I went through the album earlier. Maybe they went back and changed the upload of the music video?
No no I thought the mix was different on Doomswitch too. They definitely changed it. Maybe in the RUclips version as well. (No idea if they can do that)
0:37 some Need for Speed Most Wanted esque sound
Have you ever listened to Drown This City; Alex's old band?
Edit: The 2nd half of the album is much better.
As a big MTS fan.. I did not find myself happy with any of the new songs that were not singles.. it gave me a flooded feeling
I really enjoyed it. Fun album, fun riffs. Alex is an incredible vocalist too
I just dont get it you guys: there are a lot of generic releases that you guys absolutely love. Me that don't like MTS that much loved the album
Who cares????this album i liked so much
@@oscaryanezzavala Good if you like it, but doesn't mean other people can't state their opinion
4 singles all being in the middle of the album definitely hurt it for me but I think it’s still solid nonetheless.
(Where is Better Lovers Bogdan)
Love the warning and weaponized.. lost my earbud on new circle road this morning riding a bike to my clinic.. thank goodness i found it and no cars ran over it.. fucked my head up for a bit though.. haha!
I think this was a great album. Epitaph was the first song I ever heard from them and I enjoyed what came after for the most part
I think you may be a little bit burnt out bro, especially having heard most the songs previously. I reckon you would have really enjoyed No hard feelings and Venusian Blues more, as the mix of 90’s rock and metalcore is super fresh sounding.
Dunno man, just feel like you were a bit tired going into this 😅
Agreed.
Yeah, if most of your critique is "It's the same riff as the last song", then you either don't understand how albums work or you just need to get some sleep.
I’m a little disappointed with this album solely because a lot of the songs sound exactly the same guitar wise. 🥲
Definitely in my top 10 albums of 2024, but probably not in my top 5. Album of the year still goes to The Cycles of Trying to Cope by LMTF
I love this band so much but yeah; I share your sentiments here man. I went critical on them as well, and summarized my thoughts -
Obviously not the same grit and inflexion as Amy, but really reminded me of one particular song by Evanescence (i.e., Call Me When You Are Sober)
I got 5 songs in and it was ok. But am I really gonna listen to something that's just ok? I then switched to my NewJeans and Currents playlist 👍
Epitaph is still better than the new songs
No hard feelings and tether are bangers too
I was super deep into Make Them Suffer for quite awhile.
I think it's quite a good album, there's enough variation and both Sean and Alex sound great.
You actually were right about the mix being different, though only on Doomswitch and Ghost of Me.
Nah I’m with you that the mix in doomswitch is updated don’t switch up
i cant decide, cuz the bass IS louder on the album, no??? otherwise it mostly sounds the same...
@@bogdanhxc yeah, i definitely didn’t notice the bass nearly as much in the original version
ngl the way the intro endds I thought the second song was really gonna fuck upon opening but it didnt hit the way i thought it would
I feel like this album lacked in the "theming" department.
I freaking love this album! I guess it takes a few listens.
Old make them suffer much better than new.
you trippin this album is sick, banger after banger
The mix is definitely different for all the singles that were released prior to the album announcement
i love this album
a great album
10/10
Because of high expectations, the overall impression of this album is a little bit meh.
It doesn't beat the previous one which was just brilliant.
I haven't heard anything new or fresh. I would like to love it more.
yeah i love make them suffer and i was really excited for this but it didnt really grab me like the previous albums have.
i dont think tether gets enough love, chorus reminds me a lot of HTSAF, which for me personally, is a good thing.
I fucking love this album tbh
I personnally think that it wasn't a great idea to put the singles in the first half, since everybody listening to the album would have to sit through 15 minutes of songs that they have already heard... Its a shame because i think the second half of the album specifically was great!
All of the comments about too many singles are correct felt like I'd heard half the album already :/
The production on this album is definetely weird, I don't think it serves the album
I think with the right production this album would be their best aside maybe neverbloom.
This album feels like them pulling from all the sounds from the last few albums which makes it a really good self titled imo
As it stands third or fourth overall, controversially I think this is better than how to survive a funeral
Didn't think it'd happen but Allt might have replaced MTS as my go to band
Edit: loved the lil edits through-out the reaction :)
I think the album is decent not great. Nothing new that really hyped me up. Still love this band and still excited to see what they do next.
This album is like eating out on restaurant when you’re on vacation, delicious, but I’m probably not going back anytime soon. I overhyped the album for myself, that’s definitely my fault. Not as good as I thought it was gonna be.
BOUNDARIES still hitting hard
The whole album just felt so monotone. It felt like there was very little change besides some slight tweaks in the riffs.
I wish I loved this, but it feels half-assed. It’s Ctrl+C/Crtrl+V the whole way through songwriting wise and feels more like a vehicle for singles, plus doing a self-titled this late in your career feels like there just wasn’t much passion in doing a record honestly.
the mix is not very good though, really not a fan of it
Highs ar a bit too present, but you can quickly fix it with EQ and it's amazing
Yeah, the drums sound incredibly boring. Nothing annoys me more in modern metalcore than when the drums sound like they've been totally overlooked in the mix, they're such a huge part
Good album. The non-singles have a world apart vibe, which is great imo. And yeah they released too much singles lol
it's alright, dont see myself coming back to it sadly.
