This is the first unique model from Cupra that doesn't have any spin off involvement from SEAT. This version is a 1.5 petrol with 150bhp but there is a vast array of engine options including a PHEV and a 2.0 with 300bhp that rivals the famous Golf R.

I'm only back from Spain where I drove a rented Cupra Formentor for 4 days and I must say that it turned way more heads than the 3 series - C class I usually drive over there. Interior quality impression way above VW Golf, X1 and C-HR I've also driven recently. 1.5 150hp is very adequate but not mind blowing. It's also way lower than SUVs and MPVs (I stopped next to 3008, Scenic and Qashqai and they were all around 5cm taller) I'd say it's a slightly raised and fancy Leon SW. I liked it, a lot.
Agree with you. It's too low to be a crossover IMO but it is very cool looking.

Very practical all round car. Damn touch screens though. I love technology etc but these need a lot more work. Great review, editing etc.

Great review Nobby, I remember Bob reviewing the one you're going to next, the top of the range and like the Golf R upon which it's based the 300hp one is supposed to be a real weapon tho' I don't see the point in it because tho' it's not really an SUV that's what it's being billed as and to me performance SUVs are a bit pointless in so far as if I wanted to go fast I'd go for a hot hatch and not a higher riding SUV because obviously the hot hatch is going to handle better being lower to the ground. I will grant you the Formentor looks the part but given the price tag and that's not even the phev version or the top of the range one means it'll be very exclusive as you say though it'd make a potential good second hand buy. Only thing I don't like are those alloys they look too much like wheel trims! I do like the Cupra logo tho' as it reminds me of the Decepticon logo from the Transformers! 😁

Stunning looking car and is one I'm considering next. My only concern is the engine. What's it like when overtaking or when you need that burst of power. Does it pick up quick enough or are you begging it to get going?
Bought one last week…Even more stunning in real life! More than enough power when you need it. You can drop it in to sport mode for that extra kick too. No way the 1.5 is 150ps, easily 180+. The V1 spec is good but go for at least V2 if you can.

Is the Fermentor more or less comfortable than say the Hyundai Tucson when compared?
A firmer ride as it has a sportier feel to it. More coupe like vibe behind the wheel too
I came so close to getting one of these on a lease deal but just couldn't commit the the 1.5tsi engine, kind of wish I had pulled the trigger now 😬

I have not. But that engine is perfectly good for all round performance / economy
