this puppy did 0-60 in 4.31 on carwow - and he only tried once in not so optimal conditions.. total bargain in my opinion and you'll smoke loads of 330's and c350's for much less money! what a car, thank you Cupra..

The name sounds like a type of cheese, but from the side looks like a baby Lamborghini Urus
The name comes from Cape Formentor in Mallorca, it's a really beautiful place and the road to get there is one of the best in Europe!
I fell in love with this car as soon as I looked into it properly. I had seen a couple of pictures that caught my eye so I went to a dealership and spent 45 minutes going through the car and that was it. Now I just need to get one.
Had an Ibiza CUPRA TDI for a number of years. It was a riot as standard, then I started fiddling and it became an absolute animal. 600nm made it such a beast on roll and the handling was amazing for front wheel drive in the 2000s. Love the new spirit of Cupra. I wish we could buy them in South Africa.
I don’t really understand why they have 150hp petrol and diesel Formentors under the Cupra brand if Cupra is the ‘performance’ brand.
Unless there's some big change, you won't see three door hatchbacks anytime soon. Several brands, including VW have publicly stated they were dropping those platform as it wasn't cost effective to produce them.

They don’t do a diesel on the Formentor mate, they also need the car to appeal to a wider audience, hence the 1.5 and hybrids. Some people want the looks but not the running costs
@@Paul-gp3sn Don't know what configurator you're using but on the Irish Cupra site, you can configure a diesel Formentor.

Great review Drew! The rear from the back doors back is just so much better than the Aston DBX. Front kind of looks Urus like. Inside, a bit bland. But what surprised me was the performance figures you quoted.
Whilst it is a "Road Review" a look at the back seats practicality would have been nice!
I'm not a fan of the SUV mania, but this doesn't look too bad . . .
And then you said it has proper manual gearboxes. My interest is, indeed, piqued :)

Well impressed with this car and on PCH, you can get it around the £300pcm which is a true bargain.

It's the sort of car that's going to plunge in value and then do very well in the second-hand market. Also, nice to see Drew back on review duties.
Residuals on these are above average but I get your point, but then most cars are better value second hand or nearly new
Usually should be like that... but here in Chile the used Formentors VZ from 2021 are only 3 grands below a brand new 2023 one...

I saw one of these this morning. Much smaller than I was expecting... Still not sure why people want these crossovers though.
Easier getting in and out of, especially important when your 50+ and not quite as slim as you were 20 years ago!. Interiors feel spacious with more head room, large boot capacity, generally a better view of the road, high spec models have AWD, there's lots of positives!

It's the same old shtick VAG has been pulling up for many years. Their marketing department has done wonders convincing people they're buying different products and in some cases, mainly audi, not just a rebadged overpriced VW. Baffles me how people can fall into something so "scam-esque" like.

Plenty of fake stuff on more premium branded cars so i wouldn't get yourself to worried. Look at reviews of vehicle and you will find that everyone says it is a high quality performance product.

They are launching a sub-brand that should be sporty and have decided to pack the first model in this SUVish shape. A three-door hatchback would be a ballsy choice and would draw a lot more attention to the brand, but I guess in the years to come we won’t see any three-door hatchbacks for the masses.
Yeah, everything they’ve launched so far is with a SUV, CUV thing or a hybrid hatchback/estate. Bizarre for a sporty sub brand.

It's an Ateca with a roof chop which is fine but nothing particularly interesting. Do you remember the blokes who opened a cornflake cafe in Shoreditch? Cupra is that in car form.
ha ha...well to be fair it was a cereal cafe, huge variety of products from around the world...VW seems to be doing the opposite..the same kit under numerous brands from around the world, dressed up to look a little different but very homogenous
My poorly made point was the same as yours, the cafe and this abomination of branding are doing the same thing. They are taking a variety of common and usually inexpensive products, dolling them up and punting them out to the thoughtless and the insecure.
The first Ibiza Cupra had a silly name but was a serious piece of kit for the day. The Formentor is probably not going to sell more widely or better as a Cupra than it would have as a Seat and Seat itself is becoming more two-dimensional.

A 'Performance Sub-Brand', that includes a 148bhp 1.5 and a 200bhp hybrid weighing over 1700kg?? Cynical marketing guff for the easily swayed. Should have just called it a SEAT like the rest of the range, and only given the Cupra name to the actual top spec performance model like they've always done.
Many brands are lowering the standard to apply the performance trim name for the sake of sales. VAG is no different. As long as there are schmucks to be happily parted from their name, they'll keep doing it.

I'm usually super obsessed with symmetry - things like exhausts on one side only, or where there's a rear fog on the right hand side in place of the reverse light really annoy me. I know you've been rocking it for a while Drew (per older videos) but I've always thought wearing two watches is super weird... until now, man I wish I could pull it off that well! What's the one on your left wrist?

Well! if I was trying to promote a vehicle, I would have shown under the bonnet, the instrumentation, the back seats, and inside the boot. What did we get, a film of a vehicle going round several bends, riveting.

I like very much the review. When it's my money though , the Alfa Stelvio 280 q4i veloce is just a better car and the price is not that much different. Not to talk about herritage...

Why is it that car reviewers are so obsessed with the brand value of Cupra? To most of us I'm guessing that it doesn't matter one tiny jot. It's just another model designation like S/RS for Audi or AMG for Mercedes. Personally I really don't care - skip the philosophising completely and spend time reviewing the car not the manufacturer's brand intentions.

Strikes me that the 7-speed DSG (the standard VW unit I guess) might be more fuel efficient? And being 2 litre I guess it's not turbo charged where as the smaller engine model might be. Although the smaller engined model is a manual so no matter the difference then I guess... The Raceroom simulator for PC (owned by KW Auto) has had Cupra race models for a while now.

All their 2 litre engines are turbo charged, and have been for years.
You do understand that this is an mqb Evo derivation. This means 'go look at the golf range' with a different body and duller interior. So, there's the 1.5t, 2.0t dsg, 2.0t AWD dsg...... Etc etc. Whatever the golf is limited to, so is this. This can't be news to you.

Since swapping my Honda cr-Z for an SLK250, I don't bloody fit in any other 2 seat roadster, i really don't get the love for a short 0-60 time. Sure the SLK is way faster, but in practice that just means you can't have as much fun, because you are driving illegal speeds so quickly. IDK, but if I were to fit a 1.5 MX5 seems like the dream. And I would take an ep3 civic over a modern 300HP one as well. Unless you can use it as a track car of course than it's cool, but I can't afford two cars.
IMO the focus for sporty cars really needs to go back to Colin chapman's vision. Not more power, less weight. Anyone can build a 300HP car that's fast in s straight line and handles well enough, but is it a fun car? Nah.
As in this review the formentor is faster than the stelvio, but is it as much fun to drive? 0-60 gets old and isn't useful IRL.

Maybe I'm in a minority but I cannot stand Cupra's cars. The badge looks like a tramp-stamp, the Formentor looks too much like a basic Seat for a car not based on one, the interior is possibly the most dull and bland on the market right now, and for a 'sports' brand all they seem to make are performance SUVs with an automatic focused gearbox and a fake engine note.
