Just something small I noticed that you did without realizing, to anyone watching that didn't notice, right after you beat mist noble make sure you pick up the Yashariku's that's on the ground right there! Got to the end of one of my runs and realized I didn't have enough for Isshin ... oh well, not like I was at a blistering pace or anything anyway lmao. I had to scrub back through to find out when you picked up the extra one I didn't have (it didn't take long at all for me to figure out). Not trying to be a dick or anything, still such an amazing tutorial and forgetting the explanation for one tiny thing in an entire route is more than excusable, this is just for anyone else who may need it.
You’re right he was in the zone and forget to mention it, I’d say it’s just muscle memory for him at this point lol. This comment needs pinned incase anyones confused about their runs being short on sugars
I just started running this, so this is super timely for me 😅 It's always so awesome to see the speedrunning community being so willing to help each other out like this!
Hey man! I just wanted to say thank you for this extensive tutorial. It helped me a lot and gave a lot of insight that is not easy to grasp just by looking at vods. In short I don't think I could have got my sub 40 run without this video. I did it today with a time of 38:56. So once again: Thanks! :)
Not a speedrunner, but, I really appreciate the detailed explanations for how boss fights are strategized. Specifically came to learn how top players learn the guardian ape and this was extremely helpful. Thanks!
Thank you SO much for making this Mitchriz! I've been watching the VOD on Twitch and waiting for this to be uploaded on RUclips, as a new speedrunner it has been a MASSIVE help. You're a legend!
This is exactly what i am looking for. I love this game and i wanted to speedrun it. Most guides i found don't go into detail with certain basic techniques which makes them hard to understand fo me as a beginner. Thank you!
I feel like I have to give a resounding endorsement to this tutorial. I know it's advertised as a way to get to sub-hour speedrun, but it can take you much further than that. After a few weeks I've just gotten my first sub-45, and I have plenty of timesave to potentially get to sub-40. That's more or less just with the strats covered here in this tutorial. It's well-explained for most things, and it made speedrunning this very hard game approachable!
Thanks for this tutorial! I was hoping you’d have the immortal severance route, or maybe even an all bosses/mini bosses route posted ( which I know is a lot of work especially the all boss route explained). I appreciate how something you do that most guides don’t is remind the viewer that it’s okay to take the safety idols, and to just go at your own pace, this is just a guide that give shows all the semi beginner friendly strats/speed tech. I hope your not done with sekiro just yet!
I have yet to attempt a run, but I still watched the whole thing and enjoyed it. Thank you for taking the time to walk new runners through this with simple but effective instructions.
Amazing stuff, I was definitely looking for a good guide for this. After getting the console no airswim record glitchless was the next category I wanted to try
Thank you very much. The stagger loop on monke did work very well. I couldn't use the exact strat you've explained, with the mid air mortal blade one, as I was right there and I hadn't unlocked that. But I figured another strat on my own, with your help.
Mitchriz you are awesome I will probably wont be able to do it below 60 min, but I'm targeting less than 90 min for now. this is very helpful thank you
Managed to improve to 48:48 with still so many chokes and bad fights hoping youre still gping to do the undividual videos thanks mitch also no idea if this is the actual time i just use the load game to lookhow lomg it was
hands down, best shura tutorial for beginners like me! cheers mate! also your lifesplitt vid is super. thanks for sharing knowledge! subed of course. keep up with running and content!
A little late to share this, but might help someone: You can copy your save file and just paste it back in if you're practicing. Helps a lot with resource management like the monk fight and fights were you need certain sugars. You can also download the practice tool, but some people might not want to do that.
Super useful video Mitch, Thank you! I noticed you're going to be doing advanced tutorials as well and was wondering if you could you make a tutorial for dead angling, I can't seem to find a comprehensive explanation of it anywhere really and always see runners doing it a lot. Would appreciate this tons!
Absolutely! I'll talk about dead angling for each individual boss where it is useful. Each boss has it's own way to perform dead angling, so I'm not sure a separate tutorial for dead angling would be that useful.
Awesome tutorial! It helped a lot and I completed my first couple of runs. When you marking the advanced tutorial for Genichiro do you plan to include the 4 hit as well as the 5 hit strat? Because in my case the 4 hit strat is very consistent but I cannot get the timing down of the 5 hit strat
Glad it helped! For advanced tutorials, my plan is to include all strategies that a runner might choose to do. This will include 4 hits, 5 hits, 3 hits, and 1 hit, as well as how to back it up if it fails.
Started learning because of this video, and it's going great!! Quick question though, at the beginning of Ape you have 3 Yash sugar, use two, but then have 2 when you grab the 3rd at Ashina Castle for Emma/Isshin. You mentioned skipping Ape p1 sugar if we're worried about resources, so was there a cut I missed or is there another sugar to grab between Ape and Emma/Isshin? Thanks so much for this tutorial! I'm almost ready to start doing full attempts, can't wait for the advanced tutorials!
You have 4 as you fight Ape, you can just only hold 3 at a time, the last one is in your storage. You grab 3 in the misty forest before Mist Noble, and one directly after Mist Noble. So then you use 2 on Ape and have 2 left, grab the one in Ashina castle in the water, and now you have 3 for Emma/Isshin.
Amazing, I want to get into speedrunning soon and this was super helpful. With the time splits, do I need to learn where exactly they're supposed to be or can I just decide on my own?
You can split wherever you like. If you go into the split settings, you can also set up automatic splits so you don't have to keep track of when to split. (ex: split automatically -> when I kill a boss -> Genichiro Ashina). In the Sekiro speedrunning Discord server, there's a list of commonly used autosplits. Just make sure you do NOT set up an automatic split for the end of the game, you have to wait until the timer stops on its own at the credits.
Depending on which jump you're talking about, don't do it. I'm completely serious, do not do the Double Canyon jump. There's a good reason it's not in my tutorial, and never would be, it's completely not worth it at all unless you're literally going for world record, and in that case you're probably not watching this tutorial meant for beginners. Or if you're talking about a different jump, if you could describe where in the game you're talking about maybe I can help you figure it out.
@@Mitchriz nah that was the jump, I tried both parts and failed both parts loads. That and demon of hatred skip. I can do the game very well, but tricky things it's impossible lol
Thanks lad this gonna help big time when I get my pcbin a couple of months ima try a speedrun right of the bat no learning the mouse and keyboard controls
Thank you so much for the Video!! I do have a question though. Why do we take the Shinobi text so late into the run? I always take it right after Gyoubu so i have mikiri for Genichiro. Is that much slower than if i were to do it later?
It's only a little bit slower, but it is slower. It makes you do an extra warp which is maybe around 5 seconds of sitting down at the idol and menuing. The problem is Mikiri counter doesn't save 5 seconds on the Geni fight. Overall, it's only a few seconds slower so it's perfectly fine to get Mikiri counter whenever you want.
Great video Mitchriz, very informative, well explained and thought out. I'm gonna use this now to try my own speedrun and I will probably make a video about it. Any chance to get in touch with you? your about is kinda empty 😅
Yeah, I'm on discord as just "mitchriz", I stream on Twitch at twitch.tv/mitchriz, or I guess if you wanted to email me my email is mitchriz.stevens@gmail.com
Yeah, you can't change it in the settings, unfortunately. You have to use a third-party program to change the keybinds. I recommend AutoHotkey to make a simple script that causes tab to press escape, and you can even script it to only happen when you're in sekiro.exe, so it won't affect you outside of the game. If that's too complicated for you, you can instead use a key rebinding program like reWASD.
Thank you for the amazing tutorial, it's going great for me but I have one issue I can't get my head around. For Ape phase 1, you use the yash sugar, run to him, mid air double MD, then immediately hit him 2 times before you delay the next attacks into the stagger loop. When I do that (trying to replicate exactly your inputs), he immediately falls on his back on the first hit after the mortal draw. I can't do that loop at all because of that and I don't know why. Any idea ?
NEVERMIND, found the solution. I wasn't doing anything wrong mechanically and your explanation wasn't the problem either. Turns out I was using a mod making the game run at 144 Hz. Never made a noticeable change in the game until now, I turned it off and it worked immediately. I case anyone has the same problem, this is your solution
@@dreechte Nope, no mods of any kind are allowed. You can only use the LiveSplit timer, which has some quality of life built in. Graphical mods can have unintended effects such as changing hitboxes, or just making it easier to see the enemy which would be an unfair advantage.
@@Mitchriz ah okay unfortunate. Well thanks for the tips with guardian Ape by the way they really helped me beat him after fighting him for a while now
Amazing video! Still, I wanna know, how to skip tutorials? They take 30 seconds of time summary, but all speedruners, including you, just skip them. How do you do that?
Do you recommend playing with mouse+keyboard or controller? I'm going to start speedrunning but I have wrist problems and cant really do mouse+keyboard for long
Either one works great, and the top players are about 50/50 of controller or keyboard. I've heard that controller can be much worse on the wrist than mouse and keyboard over a long period of time, but use whatever is comfortable for you. You might also try looking into wrist guards or other solutions.
You need to talk to Tengu after you kill Gyoubu. It is recommended that you refuse his request, and make sure to have subtitles off so that you can immediately end the conversation after refusing. If you have subtitles on, it won't count as a completed conversation until after you go through all the dialogue.
hey how come youre not getting any tutorial pop ups? for example, first time using the grappling hook and what not? i see that mods like that are against the rules. Is there something im missing?
It's a skill you have to pick up. It's from the skill book you get from the sculptor, the same one that has Mikiri counter in it. You level up the skill after the Folding Screen Monkeys.
I didn't play the route you're playing but I got 49:19 for my Shura Glitchless. I was so happy because this is my first sub 50
