    Top job, I was being a smart arse and had my Fiamma brackets powder coated before fitting them 👍🏻 but then I didn’t key up the powder coating and now the adhesive doesn’t stick so I need to do it all again 😂. I also bought a cheap rubber self adhesive strip for £5 on eBay to prevent the water running off the van when opening the sliding door, a lot cheaper than the Fiamma purpose made gutter for £80😮

    always use M5 hex or Torq engineering screws with Nyloc nuts to secure awning to mount plates, never rely on self tappers, I took a van out on a test drive hit the brakes and watched the awning shoot off down the road , they had used self tappers!. Second camper I owned also self tappers so I changed them, on the older F45 fitting diagram they specified 12mm M5 with Nyloc nuts. I use M6 15mm with Nyloc nuts

    Watched umpteenth videos and then yours umpteenth/twenty times - so - just ordered the parts - including rivnut gun and glue/sealant - although we have a left hand drive van! Caveat I have self converted before (Citroen Relay) and fitted an awning with the help of a couple of ex-plumbers :-)

      @@urbanarkoverland Hi just got my awning and left hand brackets. I have just fitted the front bracket with the rivitnuts - watched your video again I used the same type of gun as you did but with the orignal rivitnuts supplied. I had to use a ratchet strap to tighten the nuts. Did you use the nuts supplied or different ones - the ones that come with the gun when practising are a lot easier to squeeze!

    Why use the fiamma awning with the Thule brackets.?...I have used both over many years and would honestly say that the Thule awnings are significantly better made. But that's just my opinion😉😉.
    Its a while since I fitted an awning to a transporter, but as you have done, get the back position sorted first, as this is the end that will need to be snug to the pop top. One thing that I found useful as I was often fitting the brackets on my own. In order to get the front and rear level and parallel (to avoid the awning twisting) I used a length of aluminium profile to bolt the 2 brackets to . Then mark the appropriate holes with both brackets held level and parallel and fit the rivnuts. Then bed them down on sikaflex and tighten up the bolts but only to the point where the first part of the bracket touched down. By leaving it overnight with the joining strip holding everything level, the following day it was perfect and solid.
    As I am writing this it sound like a right pain in the arse😂😂😂....but definitely better than finding out the front bracket is 5 degrees out from the rear and then trying to adjust it.

    • @urbanarkoverland
      @urbanarkoverland  Год назад

      You are absolutely right regarding figment trick. Didn’t have anything like that to hand unfortunately. It’s fitted and fits and works nicely.
      I fitted a Thule to my silver van and loved it. Although always struggled to open the bloody thing, think there was a nack.
      Because one never shine more brightly that the other. I chose the Fiamma as it is deep black. Truly black 😂👍🏻

      @@urbanarkoverland The thule is definitely more anthracite and a bit more textured. The fitting jig came out of frustration as you are trying to fit 2 things level....8 ft apart and both mounted to curved surfaces going in different directions...I used to spend ages trying to eye up the front one having dry fitted the back one.
