  • How badly do the Canucks need to get their offence going to compete against the Oilers? Are you worried Stuart Skinner has had too much rest and might be rusty? Who will come out on top between the Oilers and Canucks when it’s all said and done? TSN Director of Scouting Craig Button joins Jay Onrait to share his thoughts.

  • @christhornycroft3686
    @christhornycroft3686 22 дня назад +1

    The Oilers play a totally different style from Nashville. The Canucks' offensive struggles in Round 1 were due to the Predators basically playing a modern version of the trap really, really well. Against Edmonton, things will open up because for the Oilers to win, because their defence still isn't fantastic, nor is their goaltending, they have to play more of a run and gun style. If the Canucks play a really structured game and limit Edmonton's Grade A opportunities, they'll get their chances against Skinner, who has shown to be very up and down in his play. Bouchard defensively is probably where Quinn Hughes was in his first couple of seasons, so there's a good chance he can be exposed by someone like JT Miller, who is big on driving to the net. I think it will be close. Playing physical is also a big key. The Canucks have guys who can hammer people now. I don't take a lot of stock in going 4 and 0 in the regular season, because the Oilers play a slightly different game now. But I don't think this series will be over quickly. We may see some games where the Oilers get their way and open things up with 4 or 5 goals, but expect the Canucks to come right back and win, say, 3-2 or 4-3. If the Canucks win this series, their 4 wins will probably be close games. But we'll see. Silovs was excellent against Nashville, but the Oilers have arguably the most potent offence, along with Colorado, in the NHL. Limiting McDavid, Draisaitl and others and their opportunities around Silovs will be key. And I wouldn't mind seeing Zadorov nail the Oilers' top players - cleanly, mind you. You can't take dumb penalties against McDavid and Co.

    • @AmosDohms
      @AmosDohms 22 дня назад +1

      I don't think the Canucks are any better defensively then the Oilers, and without Demko they don't have better goaltending. Zadorov and Lindholm are known quantities, and the Oilers will have no issues matching any nasty stuff. Would love to have Miller though, he's a great player. Tampa never should've let him go. The Canucks will put up a better fight then the Kings, but the Oilers should win this series, better players up front and more playoff experience, the Oilers can't afford to lose this one.

  • @danielpatterson5189
    @danielpatterson5189 22 дня назад +15

    Wrong. The Oilers have the same flaws as a team they have always had. Vancouver is also facing a different opponent who is more attack than defense based. Vancouver finds their offense and they don't stop McDavid and Drasaitl but do a way better job against them then the Kings do. Canucks take it in 6 or 7.

    Making the Canucks the underdog takes the pressure off of them from that high expectation as the fav to win. They don't need to be high scoring like the Oilers. Keep them at bay defensively & win by playing tight with small margins of error & goals.

      Canucks barely won each of their games vs the Preds by last minute (often lucky) breaks late in the 3rd after typically trailing. Oilers had massively dominant wins over the Kings who are actually a better defensive team statistically than the Canucks. The Kings also had a 4-0 shutout over the Oilers... but yeah a 3-1 (with an empty net goal) should definitely give you comfort in the Canucks able to keep up, lol. Nobody should believe it'll be an Oilers sweep, but Canucks arent winning 4 games lol. Maybe 2. Likely 1.
