The Watcher (his name is Uatu) actually exists in the comics. He usually doesn't do much, but when something important is happening, you can see him watching in the background. And he has a history of intervening when there's something really bad going on with earth
The funniest being in Secret [Spoilers], when about to have the final battle in [Spoilers] & Spidey says something like "Relax, this isn't that big of a deal. I've been in enough of these things to know it is only an important moment if..."

The thing about Deadpool and the 4th wall...
They did this fun thing in the comics where they suggested he actually has a power similar to The Watcher and he actually CAN see us. They left it ambiguous for a while, like maybe he is just crazy and is hallucinating us and just coincidentally talking to where our actual POV is, but eventually he meets The Watcher who confirms for him that we are indeed "real," just not in his universe...
Deadpool also uses his meta awareness to maximum terrifying potential in Deadpool Kills The Marvel Universe.

If this were to be established as one of his powers, it would make our universe canon within the multiverse, and it would therefore make narrative sense for the actors to appear in character among us.
Imagine on every MCU opening night all the main actors from MCU history go to a cinema of their choice and act as their characters watching a movie about themselves and/or their colleagues after arriving in our universe...

this was always a sort of comic book series that you could let anyone write when they wanted a break from writing ther serious stuff. and as a comic book reader it was always fun to read. The whole point is to come up with the "wackiest" WHAT IF, and find a way to write it so it works.....

Sounds like a Marvel version of 'The Journal of Irreproducible Results'. I always liked the motto of the Journal, "Do Naught in Jest".
Then Tom DeFalco and Ron Frenz went and used it to spawn a whole other Universe, and an awesome long running series with Spider-Girl.
yeah, it's the same reason I enjoy the Exiles comic series as well
also, thinking about different universes was how I coped for over a decade of weird movie choices with my fav characters because many weren't even in the same spirit as what I read in comics
This shot of Clint falling towards all the Ultron Visions is one of the prettiest shots in the entire MCU.
Yeah the animation quality in this series ranged from average to gorgeous.
Substance Alert: When the Loki series ended with a fracturing of the Main Timeline, it set up a much more interconnected MultiVerse. Until that's corrected, things that happen in another Universe can't just be written off as unimportant in this one.
What If... is meant to be a fun non-canon romp through the multiverse, but they pulled the fast one on us. We could see these characters appearing ANYWHERE in the MCU now with how things are built. Hold on to your butts, true believers.
Except, I feel the way Natalie felt about this, about the multiverse we're going to see from the new Dr Strange, and even No Way Home. The stakes are gonna be lessened because just anything can happen.
Don't know if others mentioned it before but you kept asking things like, "How can Nat survive that fall on a motorbike?" and "How can T'Challa hold an Infinity Stone?" Remember, Dr. Strange put crazy strong protection spells on them to survive multiple Infinity Stone blasts. Tumbling from bike is not going to kill her...oh, and she IS a badass.😁
Exactly. Black widow and the other widows she was raised alongside were given an inferior version of the super soldier serum. She may not be as strong as cap but she is still slightly stronger than the average human.
32:45 The universe where the watcher sent Black Widow to looks to be the one where Hank killed all the Avengers leading to Loki taking over the planet. We also see Captain Marvel and Captain America fighting Loki and his forces the two people Fury recruited at the very end, Wonder if that will tie into Season 2.
Maybe, but the writers of season 2 alread said they want something new, probably we're gonna see Yelena, Peter Parker, Shang-Chi, Bruce Banner, the Eternals and other new guys.
@@arthurdeniham7934 I think some episodes are more worth revisiting than others. I feel no need to revisit episodes 1 or 6 or the Ultron verse, and the zombies world is getting its own spinoff. Plus 4 will probably get resolved in Multiverse of Madness.
So in Season 2 I'd like to revisit the Star-Lord T'Challa universe (recasting his voice actor would be less wrong than doing it in live action) and the Avengerless one, plus the cut Gamora episode and 6 new scenarios.

I must answer this one question Nat had: In the "Party Thor" episode, Carol calling him Whitesnake is a reference to the 1980's glam rock band, because of Odinson's long hair.
Another clever reference by Carol: In the penultimate episode, she called Ultron 'Skynet', which is a nod to the apocalyptic A.I. system in the Terminator franchise.

@@HoradeFidges Yup. But he still needed soldiers to fight with him. He was the one vital to beating Ultron for sure, but he also wouldnt have done it on his own, despite putting up a fight. They needed Cap Carter, Natasha with Zola virus to beat Ultron at least. TChalla Star Lord weakend Ultron and damage dealers like Gamora, Erik and Thor served as good distraction.
The next Dr. Strange movie is called The Multiverse of Madness. So theoretically it’s possible any of these characters could show up in live action!
Definitely some speculation out there with the latest trailer that at least one version of Strange shown in it might be a version of the Dr. Strange from What If...?
I don’t think the Strange in the trailer is Supreme, but I’ll be surprised if he doesn’t at least make a cameo.

Klaue, Andy Serkis', character is actually South African, not Australian. Technically also Belgian by citizenship, but born in The Netherlands.
And Serkis does a spectacular South African accent.

No, in the MCU they showed that as a baby Loki was tiny, like a human baby, but this one was giant sized. He probably still tugged at Odin's heartstrings, but this one probably would have grabbed his whole arm instead of just a finger with his baby strength.

The Thor/Jane relationship in the comics is very different from what the movies presented, and is fairly complicated, but it's been a long, long time since they've been what you could consider a couple. Sif was his main love interest for a long time - which is more in line with Norse mythology - but they haven't been together for a long time either. Hist most recent relationship - that I know of- was with She-Hulk, whom you'll be meeting when her Disney+ series launches.
Jane is his main love interest for a long time, too (and the first one for the comics).
But even when they are not a couple, they remain as close friends (Jane even gives advices to Thor's new girlfriends). Thor/Jane in the comics, either platonic or romantic, is more endearing compared to Thor/Sif (at least for me)
When the comic started, Thor's alternate persona was Don Blake, in the same manner as Bruce banner and Hulk. Jane Foster was his nurse assistant.
Jane as Thor is with Captain America/Falcon in the comics. I found it weird, but it somehow worked.🤷🏾♂️

Marvel has already said "What If?" Is canon.
If there are infinite universes, then any and every "What-If" story, including fanfic you make up yourself, is canon somewhere in The Multiverse (That's the genius of the concept. They can meet the DC heroes or the Star Trek crew if the respective parent companies' lawyers can get along)
Yeah there pretty much different timelines to that of the main Earth-199999 universe. Think of the MCU as a tree and the branches as other timelines, also different universes as well. Each tree is a separate universe all with branching timelines based on the original universe which is why Marvel can get away with having universes with completely different character design, voices, and stories for each reboot like Ultimate Spider-Man, Toby Spider-Man, and Andrew. These universes are separate from the MCU they're pretty much their own tree's.
The "What If?" series is just exploring other timelines of the MCU making it all canon. But even at that every Marvel medium is canon to the MCU from comic's to games, movies, and shows they just exist outside of the MCU's universe but like shown in a certain movie people from these other universes can cross over.

The watcher is an actual character from the marvel comics who's only job is to watch the timeline/realities and to never interfere in any conflict, basically a pacifist.

Natalie Portman will be back to play Jane in Thor Love and Thunder.
The What If? series was great. Can't wait for Season 2 and maybe we'll see the Gamora Episode from S1 that wasn't finished prior to the airing of S1. It was a cool nod to Raiders during the post credit scene and as well to Steve Rodgers being alive similar to how it played out for him in the MCU main timeline.
I loved this series. It really captured the spirit of the comics series that I read growing up (Volume 2 from 89-98). It really was a fan-service kind of series and it allowed writers to do things that they could not do in the canonical continuity. It also gave us some way-out scenarios, like the time the Punisher became Sorcerer Supreme (because Dracula killed the X-Men of course), or Venom taking over the Hulk.

The next series you should react to is Arcane. It's on netflix and it's incredible. You'll love the animation, music, and story. It's a very well done series that deserves to be watched multiple times to pickup on all the details the team put into it.
The "What If....?" comics series had some truly crazy storylines, too. I think that series ran from the 70's through the 80's. I've read a few, they are bonkers in every good way.
I'm hoping for at least 3 seasons of What If? on Disney+, but I'll understand if 2 would be enough, because all the actors are pretty expensive. But i love this series character design and the animation, environments. Some of the concept artists who worked on the MCU films worked on this series developing it visually. Season 2's gonna be fun!
My only problem with the what if comics is that they are always either so convoluted to let an impossible event happen or they have unnecessary dark and cruel endings. I might say the show avoided said problems I have with the comics.
I just hope we won't stop at season 2, but rather keep pumping new seasons every now and then, since there is infinite what if scenarios to explore
I think they will most likely do multiple seasons for what if for years to come especially as new mcu movies come out every year which basically just gives them more source material to work with so I can definitely see them doing this show for almost an entire decade.

@@chipparmley that’s what their “kinda” hinting at. Marvel is infamous for showing the wrong or misleading content in their commercials. The Dr Strange we know just might be the antagonist and Dr. Strange Supreme (evil looking one) just might be the protagonist.

The original premise of Thor was that Thor had a secret identity, Dr. Donald Blake, and he would transform from Blake to Thor by tapping his cane, which was actually Mjolnir, against the ground. Jane Foster was a nurse who worked for Blake and pined for him, but he didn't think he was good enough for her. Very will they/won't they dynamic.
The Thor comic didn't sell very well, so Walt Simonson was allowed to completely revamp the comic. After the Simonson reboot, Thor was an Asgardian who live in Asgard, was engaged to the Lady Sif, and hung out with the Warriors Three and had cosmic adventures. Everyone liked that version much more and the movies are mostly based on that version. Jane was quietly written out of the series for several decades.
There was a 10th episode that involved Iron Man and Gamora, but -- due to the pandemic -- they couldn't complete that one in time. So, it was shelved for season 2.

the VA playing tony stark in the Killmonger episode is Mick Wingert. he has actually been the voice of Iron Man in various Marvel animated series and video games since about 2015,such as avengers assimble, spider-man, Ultimate spiderman, Guardians of the Galaxy, and many others.

That's what What IF for the books were. Just a fun separation from the standard comics.
Writers/Artists: We have some really cool ideas, but they wouldn't work in the main storylines.
Marvel: What If... We had a comic to show these ideas to everybody?
Fun fact, we only see Killmonger’s world continue right after the Watcher takes him, because he’s the only one not to return after they defeat Ultron.
I should also note that Gamora’s universe was meant to be a full episode of Season 1, but due to COVID they were only able to finish 9 episodes; it’s probably going to be one of Season 2’s set of 9 which is coming later this year.
Natalie! You should watch Arcane! It has a great story, great characters, Hailee Steinfeld, great animation, great story, great music, it's hype and I'd love to see your reaction to it!

I think you will really enjoy Hawkeye in terms of the humor and characters, so I hope you do that one! Plus, there's a cute dog in it! As for What If, I think things like the latest Spider-Man especially (not to mention the upcoming Doctor Strange sequel) are beginning to establish that the multiverse is definitely a 'thing' so I think in a way this is (along with Loki...and heck, even getting trolled in WandaVision with Ralph) preparing us for that.
I’m surprised you didn’t realise who the watchers represent technically. In the movies, we have seen Stan lee talking to the watchers which implies he himself was one. Every story is his to tell.
She doesn't remember major plot points from movies, I doubt she'd remember a one off joke that only meant something to people already familiar with The Watchers
Just because he talks to the Watchers doesn't makes him one, if Stan was anyone he was the One Above All.
Stan talking to the watchers very clearly shows he is NOT one of them, he looks human still and it also ends with them leaving and him saying he needs them because they're his ride.
I would love a poster of Ultron eating the Galaxy in classic Jack Kirby or Steve Ditko style.
As for season 2 I would like a quasi-adaptation of Marvel 1602 (a Neil Gaiman miniseries where classic Marvel characters begin appearing in Elizabethan London and Roanoke VA due to timeline corruption) similar to how they adapted Marvel Zombies this season
T'Chaka would need to think Erik knew who actually killed his dad in order to be worried about Erik saying he would avenge him.
True but still, Erik's father die stabbed by a claw and since he knew about wakanda it would make sense for him to know he was killed by a Black Panther
@@FranciscoRamirez-nb4uu i thought the whole "what if" here is that the gang violence in USA was so high that Erik's dad died to gang violence first (like a gun shot. Not claw) and that's why Erik has this hate for the us government that let their own country fall to such levels of ghetto without intervening to save it's own people from resulting to such deadly lifestyles
That's why he was hating on USA.
As for Wakanda, he probably remembered from his parents teachings and lip tattoo that they just existed but never intervened to help other people out there (similar to movie quote) but most importantly he would have also blamed Wakanda that they cast his father out to begin with and didn't help him when he died. Even if t'chaka didn't directly stab his brother, Erik would still see him as guilty of betrayal while t'chaka would not be seeing himself as such a target in Erik eyes due to the indirectness of the nature of that game violence death.
So I'm this universe, instead of kill monger focusing only on Wakanda revenge for claw mark deaths, he hated both USA and Wakanda for basically standing idle to it. And that's why he would have been more open to notice the iron man terrorism kidnapping conspiracy, as he's not so tunneled on Wakanda during his deep dives.
And that's where this episode was.

Hey, Natalie! A master class in villainy this week! A complex episode that entwines "Iron Man" and "Black Panther". Here's my take on EPISODE 6:
The point of divergence is that Erik Stevens aka Killmonger rescues Tony from the Ten Rings' ambush of the military convoy transporting Tony from the Jericho demonstration.
Tony's captivity with Yinsen in the Afghan cave never occurs, he never experiences a moral epiphany, the shrapnel never threatens his heart and the Mark I armor is never built.
Killmonger's strategy to ingratiate his way to power in Wakanda is more roundabout and doubly insidious.
Killmonger, T'Challa, T'Chaka, Ramonda, Okoye, Rhodey, Happy, JARVIS, Ulysses Klaue and Christine Everhart are all voiced by the actors who portrayed them on film. Mick Wingert and Mike McGill, who replaced Robert Downey, Jr. as Tony Stark and William Hurt as General Ross, respectively, in the murder mystery episode, serve as substitutes again. Beth Hoyt replaces Gwyneth Paltrow as Virginia 'Pepper' Potts, Kiff VandenHeuvel replaces Jeff Bridges as Obadiah Stane and Ozioma Akagha replaces Letitia Wright as young Shuri. The substitutes are all reasonable facsimiles with the only noticeable difference being that Wingert is a bit more higher-pitched than RDJ. Otherwise, he nails the attitude.
Killmonger exposes Obadiah's treachery, supplants Happy as head of security, supplants Pepper as COO and inspires Tony to build a drone army made out of vibranium.
The holographic rendering of vibranium's molecular structure is a callback to the holographic rendering of the new element Tony created to replace the toxic palladium in his arc reactor inspired by the 2D layout of the Stark Expo designed by Howard in "Iron Man 2".
I loved it when Tony contemplated miniaturizing the arc reactor and then dismissed the notion. His entire legacy gone with a wave of the hand!
An off-the-books deal is brokered by the US military represented by Rhodey with Klaue in his South African shipping yard headquarters for his ill-gotten vibranium cache.
Tipped off by Klaue, Black Panther interrupts the sale only to be put down by Killmonger wielding the sonic paralysis device Stane used on Tony in "Iron Man". Rhodey is murdered in cold blood and Killmonger stages the scene to make it seem like they took each other out.
Wakanda takes the bait and T'Chaka addresses the UN to condemn the actions of the American military and Stark Industries.
Tony discovers the truth using JARVIS to recreate the crime scene in holographic 3D as in "Iron Man 3" but, instead of alerting authorities, he seeks personal vengeance in a whiskey-fueled rage!
Tony is a monstrous alcoholic in the comics who had to give up being Iron Man for a time because he was so soused. Rhodey took over while Tony lived a desperate existence as a barfly on skid row before hitting rock bottom and drying out. The only film to touch on this was "Iron Man 2". This episode of "What If...?" never depicts Tony without a drink in his hand alluding to his descent into the bottle.
Killmonger outmaneuvers Tony's killbot and murders Stark with a great line: "The only difference between you and me is that you can't tell the difference between you and me."
Tony values intellect above all making him color-blind but his wealth has insulated him from the world's realities making him oblivious to Eric's rage. The line speaks to the tragic nature of both men who both have the potential for greatness.
Killmonger frames the Wakandans, General Ross seizes Stark assets and the drones are mass-produced for a retaliatory strike on Wakanda.
As in "Black Panther", Killmonger betrays Klaue and uses his corpse for clout in establishing his lineage.
The task is made simpler with a guilt-ridden T'Chaka grieving for a recently-lost son.
He warns of the impending American attack, counsels T'Chaka on a risky strategy to prove his reliability and incites a false flag attack to demonstrate his courage with a rhino charge into the heart of battle with Okoye and Ramonda!
T'Chaka anoints him the next Black Panther and only Shuri has misgivings.
In the spirit-veldt, T'Challa confronts his murderous cousin and warns him of the reckoning unearned power reaps.
Stateside, Ross ramps up for all-out war despite being shocked at Wakanda's advanced technology ensuring an aggressive Wakandan onslaught of the globe and a possible nuclear exchange.
The only hope rests with Shuri and Pepper who team up to topple the usurper!
My favorite episode yet! A Shakespearean tragedy! What a wild ride elevating Killmonger to Zemo levels of duplicity! Best yet, the story will continue this season with Pepper and Shuri blasting ultron-bots if the promos are to be believed! I can't wait!
Hey, Natalie! A frat boy comedy this week! Here's my take on EPISODE 7:
The point of divergence was during Odin's war with Jotunheim when he returned foundling Loki to Laufey rather than adopting him.
Thor, Loki, Sif, Surtur, Jane Foster, Darcy Lewis, Nick Fury, Maria Hill, Phil Coulson, Brock Rumlow, Grandmaster, Topaz, Nebula, Korg and Howard the Duck are all voiced by the actors who portrayed them. Hemsworth and Goldblum have a blast! Fred Tatasciore and Alexandra Daniels, who voiced Drax in Episode 2 and Captain Marvel in Episode 3, respectively, reprise their roles. Josette Eales replaces Rene Russo as Queen Frigga, Max Mittelman replaces Josh Dallas and Zachary Levi as Fandral, David Chen replaces Tadanobu Asano as Hogun and Fred Tatasciore does double-duty replacing Ray Stevenson as Volstagg. All the subs are reasonable facsimiles except for Frigga who uses a British rather than a Transatlantic accent.
There are unvoiced cameos from Heimdall, Yondu, Skurge, the Skrulls, Valkyrie, Rocket, Ayesha of the Sovereign, Einherjar guardsmen, Contraxian fembots, Miek, Mantis, Ravagers and Sakaaran gladiators.
You know it's a crisis when the party atmosphere affects Pennsylvania Dutch country! Lol.
Darcy and Howard are my fave couple of the year!
Thor and his cronies fix Stonehenge, Rushmore, the St. Louis Arch, the Millennium Wheel, the Statue of Liberty and, inadvertently, the Leaning Tower of Pisa!
The creators of this episode absolutely SAVAGED Captain Marvel providing joyous vindication for the many Marvel fans Brie has aggrieved:
1. Calling her a 'party-pooper' was the nice way of calling her a word that rhymes with 'witch'. And they did it repeatedly to my utter delight!
2. The finger-pointing mass ridicule! Brilliant!
3. Getting bashed in the head by Mjolnir as a callback to Thor's test of her mettle in "Endgame".
4. Darcy's quip about "her ego writing checks her skills can't cash"! Ouch, that one hurt so good!
5. Thor pinning her with Mjolnir for a time-out!
6. Thor telling her to smile and loosen up! She comes off as a sour shrew most notoriously during cast interviews!
7. Maria Hill dressing her down and dismissing her safety from a nuclear strike without REALLY KNOWING if she'd be okay! Priceless!
Her ardent admirers got fan service, too, when she withstood Thor's clobbering, got her licks in, was acknowledged by Frigga and tried to cover for Thor.
The coda was an intrusion from the multiversal Big Bad, Infinite Ultron! Vision encased in Ultron armor studded with all six Infinity Stones!
While Ultron has never possessed the Infinity Stones in the comic, he has threatened Universal existence three times:
1. The comic book event "Age of Ultron" in which he conquered an alternate reality by attacking the past from the future through a Vision-proxy!
2. The comic book event "Annihilation: Conquest" in which Ultron led the techno-organic hivemind species known as Phalanx against the rest of the galaxy.
3. The comic book event "Ultron Forever" in which Ultron defeated Odin and absorbed the Odin-force in an alternate future.
That next morning trashed hotel scene where Rocket, voiced by Brandley Cooper, is dead asleep in the sink is even more hilarious once you watch The Hangover with Brandley. They did it on purpose 😂😂😂😂
Did you ever figure out the 'Whitesnake' reference? Basically, in the late 80's early 90's there was the band White snake whose lead singer, David Coverdale, had this amazing head of hair. So that's where she's getting that from.
The Watcher vs. Ultron Vision was badass.
The eating the Galaxy part is a teaser at Galactus.
That shield Natasha is using in Ep. 8 is actually the Red Guardian shield. Red Guardian was the Soviet version of Captain America :P
What I really love about this series is how it took the original comic lines for What If…?, which were an anthology of hypothetical, speculative scenarios that were always independently unrelated stories-What if Spider-Man had joined the Fantastic Four?, What if Daredevil had killed the Kingpin?-and found a way to merge a bunch of them into these final episodes, with a pretty compelling What if the Watcher Broke His Oath?, and revisiting most all of the previous storylines he observed this season. The writing has been really impressive.
The stories in What If? comics weren't always unrelated stories. Some of the characters from them did later cross into the main comics reality, and there's at least one where the Watcher did something not dissimilar to the final episode here, recruiting characters seen in prior What If? stories to fight a menace to the multiverse.
