The director spotted a park ranger and told them to pretend they were having a picnic (this story came from the guy that played the treehugger.) They actually got kicked out of several locations (because of no permits). At one point the director yelled at joggers who were getting in the shot (they were filming on public jogging trails) - and when the female lead told him not to yell, the director refused to talk to her for 3 weeks.

What's mind-blowing is if you listen to interviews with the Writer/Director, he genuinely believes he made a good movie. He literally said 'On a small screen, it looks like a 100 Million Dollar movie!" At the very least, he's never gotten nasty towards audiences, but his seemingly unwavering insistence that the movie is of good quality remains in place.
By comparison, at least Tommy Wisseau has come to realize that his movie is something people love to laugh at, and so he adapted to embrace the way people came to love his movie.

  • @Fardawg

Glad you guys switched to this format. It's more like watching the movies with friends and also makes it less like Red Letter Media's "Best of the Worst" series (your videos were recommended by youtube while watching them), and anyone who reviews bad movies will inevitably be compared to RLM since they have been doing Best of the Worst for 10 years at this point (and "Half in the Bag" several years before that). Many of the films you watch have been covered by them, but this format makes it different enough since you stick to one movie per episode, while they tend to watch 3 for one episode and do a roundtable discussion with cuts to them watching the movies throughout, which means we get a better sense of each movie with you guys and it is more linear rather than them trying to remember and explain the films later. You are also far more consistent in releasing episodes so far, which helps keep me interested.

You're better men than I. I skipped all kinds of shit when I tried to watch this. I couldn't sit through it.
Okay! So! Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds" was based on an actual incident in Capitola, California on Aug. 18, 1961. A real mass bird attack. Hordes of seabirds were divebombing homes and cars and were vomiting half-digested anchovies. It was caused by the birds ingesting toxic algae. What's even crazier? If I had a nickel for every time an entire bird population went nuts and started attacking people, I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's strange that it happened twice. No, really. It's not just a meme. It happened twice.

"This movie has 20 minute chunks of pain." Yes it does. There were a couple scenes in the first half that actually gave me a headache. When that waitress says the first piece of dialogue, it is on. You can hear when the mic turns on and off and they could NOT filter out wind and ambience in the background. Was this done on purpose? You have to wonder.

Alan Bagh, the actor who "portayed" Rod, is actually a successful and award-winning filmmaker and actor. He has, in interviews, leaned into the craziness and ridiculousness of the movie. Said he deliberately gave a bad performance because he knew nothing he would do could save this mess and so decided he would fully immerse himself in the crappiness and just try to enjoy himself with it.

Not just "a part time Eagles fan," but "part 'times' Eagles fan." He also said he knows "Good Vietnamese restaurant" instead of "A good Vietnamese restaurant" (and she never asked where it was or what the name was before hanging up...) The actor said the director insisted they say the lines exactly as in the "script," even if the grammar was wrong, and they never got a full script, only their lines for the day or scene. They were completely lost.
The actor said he had to rent that car with his own credit card, pay for the gas, and drive in all the scenes (including that opening drive) even if he wasn't on camera. They shot most if not all the stuff with the car in one day since it was rented and all the shots were random.
