  • In this video I show you the new metal, Fraser price box replica and updated design from an Amazon seller, that I found. I share my first impressions using the box, as well as using a new paint set from Holbein that I really like. I demo using both.

I absolutely love this palette. The watercolor doesn’t bead up on the white parts if you first clean them. Plus, copper doesn’t rust and I love the weight of the box. Heat and acidic compounds cause the green corrosion, so use watercolors and water and this won’t happen. The box might tarnish with time, but so does brass. Enjoy!

I love how you painted the portrait and your use of colour.

I love Holbein's watercolor so I'm glad you enjoyed them as well 🥰 the palette looks soo nice! Even for a fake

Compose blue is the equivalent of Cyan if you have to work to a CMYK palette.
The palette looks good, but if it is copper may need a little extra care to keep it from forming a verdigris if the surface gets scratched.

Thanks for this review. I found the palette in Amazon in Germany. The brand you indicated has the same model you showed, marked as "small", and the "large" version is identical to the one sold at Jackson's. Both version in brass and blue. I would be interested to hear how heavy it is and how it performs as an "on the go" palette. I love the design but I am afraid it might be too heavy. How is it working for you?

I really like it! It’s not too heavy the way I use it. But I can see it be heavy if you’re holding stuff in one hand and painting

@@manalwatercolorartistThanks for your reply. I re watched this today, 2minths after your first posting. I appreciated how you created the boundaries for the cap and the lapel, which I missed when I first saw the video. Wonderful portrait.

Can I ask what material the white inner part of the lid is? Is it a plastic inner cover?

I would not buy this palette, for two reasons: first, there are no deep wells to hold a volume of water to make nice washes, and second, I don't know what the surface of the mixing trays is, but it beads up the watercolor very badly, so you cannot see what color you are mixing, or even what the true color is against the background of the white tray; the trays may be plastic which inhibits laying down the water nicely so you can see what color(s) you are dealing with. Porcelain/ceramic would be a much better choice. (Hint, hint, Holbein!!) Your portrait is very nice. Thanks for posting.

I thought it was brass. I understand now why they did the blue palette. It look like Copper blue. So the oxidation won't show to much.
