I didn't want to believe the story at first, but looking at Charlene, she never looks truly happy, there is deep pain in her eyes. She's a modern day captive.

Grace had to provide a dowry when she married, a nasty shock for Grace and she had very little money when she died. She had had to buy her own clothes etc. The same may well have happened to Charlene.
Grace Kelly had to pay $2M dollars to marry the prince. I doubt Charlene had that. Factor in the number of times Albert (allegedly) dragged her back when she tried to get away and he probably wasn't too picky at that point.

I know from information here in South Africa that the Princess was really very seriously ill. She could only take in liquids for many months and she was dangerously underweight when she arrived back in Monaco. The Prince staged a family intervention to persuade her to book into a clinic to regain her strength. Princess Charlene is very close to her family,, one of her brothers live in Monaco full time - he often attend events with her - and her parents visit all the time. She attributed her survival to her faith and the support of both families. In a recent interview she said that she's in a place of serenity & contentment, and I think the pictures prove it...she's looking more lovely than ever. A life crisis has a way of putting things into perspective, you stop sweating the silly stuff. And from the way the Prince looks at her nowadays, I think he's reached a new appreciation for his consort and the mother of his children. They're in a good place.

Princess Grace’s children were grown when she died, the youngest being 17 or 18. Specifically discussing Albert, he was 24. By this time he was fully molded into the man and future monarch he would become. His parents , like Prince Charles parents, must have had little to do with their upbringing. This has caused so much trouble, pain and heartache in both families. Even though Diana was the first royal parent to try and turn this around, she had too much heartache and mental strife to make a success of it, specifically, Harry. Going forward, William and Catherine seem to be doing a brilliant job of raising their three children. This definitely can be attributed to Diana’s influence on William and Catherine’s stable, loving , close commoner’s family life. I remember that there was comment on royal fashion blogs, in the early years, over the fact that Charlene _never_ appeared in a tiara, even though a gorgeous tiara had been specially made for her when she married Albert. It was one of those “convertible” ones, and she wore it twisted around and placed low on her head, as a hair ornament 🙄. (It did look beautiful that way, but this drove tiara fans crazy). To this day, I don’t think I’ve ever seen her wearing any of the tiaras that are available to her. It really seems to be the case that she purposely avoids coming across as “grand” and regal, preferring to keep her look low-key.

I wouldn't compare the two couple's marriages, since Charles' only infidelity was with the love of his life and Albert's affairs were mere trysts, although Albert was wholly irresponsible, since he obviously failed to use adequate protection. Thankfully, he has developed relationships with each of the children born out of wedlock. Once Charles determined the marriage with Diana could not be salvaged and he committed to Camilla, there was no going back. Albert's infidelities have nothing to do with loving anyone else and he seems to have genuine feelings for Charlene. The public has no idea of the full scope of medical and/or mental health concerns that Charlene dealt with and how much of that saga included marital discord, if any, but it does appear the couple are working through their issues. I expect we'll see them together until the twins are grown and able to engage with their mother without palace involvement. After that, we'll just have to wait and see.... I wish the couple a long and happy marriage.

Thank you for a balanced report, Kinsey, I don't understand why the media so desperately want the Prince & Princess to be unhappy! I know from information here in South Africa that the Princess was really very seriously ill. She could only take in liquids for many months and she was dangerously underweight when she arrived back in Monaco. The Prince staged a family intervention to persuade her to book into a clinic to regain her strength. Princess Charlene is very close to her family,, one of her brothers live in Monaco full time - he often attend events with her - and her parents visit all the time. She attributed her survival to her faith and the support of both families. In a recent interview she said that she's in a place of serenity & contentment, and I think the pictures prove it...she's looking more lovely than ever. A life crisis has a way of putting things into perspective, you stop sweating the silly stuff. And from the way the Prince looks at her nowadays, I think he's reached a new appreciation for his consort and the mother of his children. They're in a good place.
The media doesn't WANT them to be unhappy. People just have eyes.

Princess Grace’s children were grown when she died, the youngest being 17 or 18. Specifically discussing Albert, he was 24. By this time he was fully molded into the man and future monarch he would become. His parents , like Prince Charles parents, must have had little to do with their upbringing. This has caused so much trouble, pain and heartache in both families. Even though Diana was the first royal parent to try and turn this around, she had too much heartache and mental strife to make a success of it, specifically, Harry. Going forward, William and Catherine seem to be doing a brilliant job of raising their three children. This definitely can be attributed to Diana’s influence on William and Catherine’s stable, loving , close commoner’s family life. I so hope Albert and Charlene will be as involved in their children’s lives so that their monarchy will be successful going forward.

Crazy Days and Nights has some interesting tea to spill on this royal union….. rumors of the Russian mafia having ties to the finances of Monaco and although Albert tried to extricate his country and himself from them, when he got confrontational with them, they responded with typical gansta brutality which included threats against Charlene and her younger family members if she did not comply. No wonder the poor woman is always in tears.
If they were first pictured as a couple in 2006 (after both paternity suits), why would she get "cold feet" because of those 5 or 6 year old paternity suits, when she was being married in 2011? Moreover, why would she have been embarrassed by them, before they were even a couple? It sounds to me that he admitted them, in order to get them out in the open, prior to him starting the relationship. Why else sdmit the second one, after so long? Coincidence? I doubt it.

I've never seen a more miserable bride than Charlene. It would be an uphill battle convincing me she was happy to marry him.
I remember that there was comment on royal fashion blogs, in the early years, over the fact that Charlene _never_ appeared in a tiara, even though a gorgeous tiara had been specially made for her when she married Albert. It was one of those “convertible” ones, and she wore it twisted around and placed low on her head, as a hair ornament 🙄. (It did look beautiful that way, but this drove tiara fans crazy). To this day, I don’t think I’ve ever seen her wearing any of the tiaras that are available to her. It really seems to be the case that she purposely avoids coming across as “grand” and regal, preferring to keep her look low-key.
Charlene needs to divorce and move forward. She is unhappy. Let Albert be with his true love.

That wedding ceremony was so excruciatingly boring and long I too felt like crying, just watching it.
Wow - a photo of Charlene - that I had never seen before - with the wide brimmed white hat and wide collar dress gave me the instant reaction of OMG here is another Princess where Meghan completely copied the style. The white outfit she wore at a church service in the UK (last engagement) where she and Harry were booed. Of course Meghan’s version was ill-fitting on her because she is too short compared to Charlene to pull it off.
Diana had her own agenda…shy princess, not too intelligent, sly, manipulative, extremely emotional….really not up to being a Princess. The RF should have known better…and learned to live with their misjudgment. She was a means to an end, producing heirs for the House of Windsor. Duty done.

I wouldn't compare the two couple's marriages, since Charles' only infidelity was with the love of his life and Albert's affairs were mere trysts, although Albert was wholly irresponsible, since he obviously failed to use adequate protection. Thankfully, he has developed relationships with each of the children born out of wedlock. Once Charles determined the marriage with Diana could not be salvaged and he committed to Camilla, there was no going back. Albert's infidelities have nothing to do with loving anyone else and he seems to have genuine feelings for Charlene. The public has no idea of the full scope of medical and/or mental health concerns that Charlene dealt with and how much of that saga included marital discord, if any, but it does appear the couple are working through their issues. I expect we'll see them together until the twins are grown and able to engage with their mother without palace involvement. After that, we'll just have to wait and see.... I wish the couple a long and happy marriage.

Princess Charlene knew that if she married Prince Albert she wouldn't be able to leave the Principality. I think it is irrelevant if they live apart. If she can't be happy in Monaco with the amount of status, money and power, where can she be happy? I don't believe what the media say.
Diana were barely out of her teens. Charlene was older and as an olympian out in the world competing, not sheltered like Diana in her own little social circle.

An interesting and exciting life in the limelight always comes at a price. She made the right choice. Life in SA is very boring.And she's a smart girl. I hope she looks back on it one day and realizes it was the right choice. Even though it was not perfect. I know many men who cannot change the way they are. One just has to accept it.
