  • Welcome to my top 10 God of War Ragnarok bosses video where i rank my favorite bosses from the game in a top 10 based on mechanics. i do care about the music and the story context as well of course but please understand that for me gameplay is supreme and it determines where a boss battle is placed in my top 10 cuz it's simply the most important thing in a game. enjoy.

I was disappointed by the final Thor encounter. Thor was drunk and depressed. And it didn't have enough scale. Mechanically it is the best boss. I love his moveset. But I would've loved to have the set piece be a bit more. Like the fight shakes the world tree to it's core and reality starts unfolding around them. Or maybe, imagine the fight lands on the rainbow bridge and then Thor breaks it, completely fucking up the bifrost and they teleport to all of the different realms and fight in different arenas in each realm. (Except Midgard). Imagine kratos gets pushed to his limit and all of a sudden his Spartan rage hand flames temporarily turn blue and it quickly resembles the power of hope he used to kill Zeus. I would've liked to just see some real destruction like in the first fight

Hot Take: 2018 is easily the better game out of the two in terms of story, bosses (not counting mini-bosses) and maybe even graphically, specifically Kratos’ character model. There was a serious lack of moments that made me feel for the characters throughout the game, though some standout moments for me included all of Brok (with that tasty spear scene), Fake Tyr, Thor’s entrance and Artreus’ reunion with his father. They introduced tons of new characters but only Odin, Thor, Heimdall and Thrud felt like they were a neat, fleshed out fit for the Norse saga (Durlin’s spotlight was strange in retrospect considering how unimportant he was), but they built upon the established characters pretty well apart from Artreus. And when it comes to the bosses, none of them apart from Thor’s first fight felt grand in scale with a satisfying conclusion which is a big deal considering this was RAGNAROK, nothing surpassed Baldur’s final fight unless we’re talking gameplay. P.S. They should’ve focused more on Loki’s giants instead of gathering armies offscreen to have a more climactic end.

Hot take: God of war (2018) had a way better progression system. From pretty early on in Ragnarok (the first mission in Asgard) I had access to almost every realm even Muspelheim. And by the second Vanaheim mission I had access to way better materials that allowed me to comfortably go through every realm and kill any barbarian that was unlocked. Leaving me being level 9 going into the final mission and being extremely overpowered. And stayed this way through out any remaining side stuff (even Gna and the barbarian king). Especially because the starting armor set (Survival gear) is the best in terms of raw stats at level 9 I really felt like I was moving in circles instead of forward.

It would be amazing if we had the Kraken in this game that I think there would be a fight against him in Svartalheim and Midgard It's a shame he didn't put him in this game it would be an incredible fight and I think he could be that Durlin octopus that could come in the future becoming a boss like the Kraken we know and another is what happened to the Dragons we released in the 1st game If they appearing in this game as allies or we can fight against and kill them It would be a cool that's it shame didn't happen Just like the pets of Freyr,Thor and Odin the boar, wolves, goats and horse that did not appear and they were not used in the final battle They would be a great side quest going after them and saving them and seeing them in the game since they are very important to these Gods and not having them is a huge pain and makes no sense...
a shame it didn't happen as well not have as many others Norse Kings/Heroes of Norse Mythology and not have more Gods of Asgard & Vanaheim and not have more Valkyries who did not appear In the game they are mandatory to be there It's a big pain in my heart that they weren't put in the game... Because they are very important and should be in the game and this game It had great potential that could be much better with these things and elements for the game's plot and in history what we had in the original who how easily could have put it in the Game but they didn't do that
I hope they are included all of this in more story dlcs or the next game I hope that happens 🤔😭😔🤧🙏🙏 like and Bye!

Harshly disagree, there's no in universe reason that kratos would take the weapon, as that was a trademark by young kratos. It would have been introduced way too late in the game. The spear overall has a better reason to be there as it is a callback to kratos being a spartan and it's blessed by brok who was a pretty pivotal character in kratos time within the norse realm. There's really no reason to have the hammer other than "it's badass".

Hot take: the Ragnarok in the game isn’t nearly as powerful and dangerous as advertised. If you gonna put this in the video u can put only this first line, the rest is just me explaining my point. Spoilers ahead.
This comes mainly from the fact that, from the beginning of the game, they kept diminishing the stakes. “Oh look its not all the worlds that will be destroyed, only asgard”, “yeah you can’t change prophecies BUT MAYBE THIS ONE IF WE TRY HARD ENOUGH…” “I guess everyone hates odin, I wonder if he will have any allies in the end (this one is kinda nitpicky bc that is kinda the point but still)” “theres a big guy but don’t worry he is on our side, BUT WAIT he is uncontrollable and is starting to go against us and… a cut. No actions or consequences whatsoever” and the worst of all: woah tyr is odin and he has the mask BUT NOP Kratos pulls a trickshot and gets the mask, and now there is really no sense of urgence for the war because odin has nothing and is really depending on us to deliver the mask to him, so we can sit, have a nice conversation and start this thing whenever we want bc what can odin do.

Hot take: i love the walking sections even the ironwood ones cause they serve a purpose which is devloping even more the personality of the characters and even on the yak section i absolutely loved and at no point felt it drag out cause since atreus and angreboda kept talking it was fun discovering more of those characters personalities and humour this sections are bad only for the replayability
now as a game dev i don't think a dev should change sections of the games for the second playthrough of a player the replayability shouldn't on the mind of a dev while creating game only for story moments (like replaying the game and noticing how tyr calles freya by frigg) cause the walking sections are truly a nuisance only in second playthroughts for me but they are necessary for character devlopment since it let the player focus more on what is being said but he still is moving so he kinda engaging in whats happening so its more immersive then a simple cutscene
