Richard Clapton had so many great songs. "Deep water" would have to be my favourite. And there is a live version with Jimmy Barnes on backing vocals. So glad you found him.
Australia is truly blessed when it comes to music. And I'm so happy that the rest of the world get to enjoy it too. Better late than never I say. Thanks Gents. Love your work 👍

Seeing as Chris is curating a new week of Aussie Artists, one can only hope that some Tex Perkins is added either in the form of his solo work or with The Beasts of Bourbon, The Cruel Sea or even Tex, Don and Charlie (for some beautiful melancholic thought provoking tunes).
Note: Tex, Don and Charlie includes Don Walker the songwriter and keyboardist for Cold Chisel.

Thanks for the nostalgic drip down memory lane. Still listen to him once or twice a year. One of our best singer songwriters. Don’t believe he gets enough love. It’s almost as if we only have room for one great singer songwriter and that position is taken by Paul Kelly. First saw Richard Clapton perform in a free concert in Hyde Park, Sydney back in 1974. Have loved his voice and song-craft ever since. I note your reference to Leo Sayer, who is now an Australian citizen. I have always thought of him as Australia’s Van Morrison with a body and face only a mother could love.

Both really good tunes. The bass & drum lines in Capricorn Dancer are what makes it hypnotic to me. Richard Clapton is a great songwriter and singer. I can see where the record company didn't think there was a "hook" for Girls on the Avenue. Seems like normal record company stuff, if it's not right in front of your face it's not there.

I first saw Richard Clapton when my friend and I were teenagers in the early 1970s.
We were wandering around Sydney CBD and decided to walk into an old theatre to check it out and there he was practising on stage, just him and his guitar.
I loved his voice and the theatre was so ornate!
We didn't know who he was at the time but bought his album when we heard his distinctive voice on the radio.
There was no one at the door to stop you from entering in those days.

Ahh. Drag On. Really great songs! Its such a pity Marc Hunter couldn't sing in tune - and people wonder why they never cracked it overseas...

Richard Clapton? New to me, but both of these songs were good.

Great choice...... Richard should have been an Aussie rock superstar. Unfortunately, he does look a little similar to Big Roy O so therefore not the matinee idol type.
Re Colorado...... an old mate lived near Denver when he was married.
He always said he spent many nights exploring the Grand Canyon until he escaped and got a divorce. lol

I always thought it was about prostitutes. Richard Clapton is a stage name based on his two favourite guitarists Keith & Eric.

Nice touch with Mother and Son. I think I'll watch a few episodes tonight.
The Dandy Warhols is fresh on my mind too, I've been watching the British series Teachers. Oh the nostalgia. It has a good soundtrack.
