It’s not fair that a person works their entire life only to face death instead of traveling. He’s been in so much pain and I watch him shrink daily. He was a big man. Tall and thick. He had the most beautiful arms and legs. Once vibrant and quick witted. Spunky and silly. He loved to cook and camp. Now between this disgusting disease and covid, he’s becoming dull. His shine is leaving just slow enough to torture him and us. So if he ever says to me that he’s done...I get it. Nobody knows the level of pain cancer patients go thru. The use oxycodone, the morphine and more. NOBODY has the right to be critical of these people. NO ONE!
I couldn't agree more with her. My mother and father died of cancer, worse than death itself, it was the type of existence they had to endure before the end, it is undeserved and undignified, I would do exactly as she did. RIP courageous lady.
Agreed... I'm so sorry you lost both your parents. I lost my Father at only 20 from his first and only heart attack. Now, 20 years later, my Mother was recently diagnosed with Dementia and I'm so scared. It was horrible to lose my Father the way I did, but I was so thankful I didn't have to see him wither away like both my Grandfathers. Now I'm terrified with what's going to happen with my Mother, because my Grandmother (her Mom), and Aunt (her older sister), both went/are going through it... It's so tough to watch somebody suffer. @@goose7574 My heart goes out to you, the deaths of those we love leave a hole in our lives that could never be fulfilled, the only possible thing to do to calm our sorrow is to focus and think of the lives they/we lived when we were still together. true, death is part of life, but that is no consolation. My grandmother passed away at age 95 a year and a half ago, her last year her mind was and and off, but off enough that she didn't realize her end was near, that in itself was a relief, she went in her sleep. I hope you have the love and support of those around you in such difficult time.

I can't say I understand because I don't.I use to think her choice would be considered suicide and God does not want a person to take their own lives and if someone was to end their life they would not get in the gates of Heaven. But as I have gotten older I can't see God deliberately making his creations suffer. I love the idea of when a person is dying they can chose dignity over extreme daily pain with no medician that can stop the pain. I maybe wrong but God is a loving and caring God and I know he can hear the screams and prayers of those who are waiting to die. RIP sweet lady

Exactly. Those words resonate with me, as well. So many times I've said, "I can't do this anymore". Eventually, the pain subsides to a tolerable level. However, it is whilst in the throes of excruciating pain and fear of dying right then/there, that I know once it gets to the point that there is not even a brief period of relief, that I don't want to remain. I want to see my grandchildren grow up, get married, and have their own children. It just may not be in the cards. I don't think the world will last that long, nontheless, myself.
My brother-in-law died yesterday after receiving the 3 injections (shots) for dying with dignity, no more pain. He was happy and all the family presented said it was done and he went in peace, no pain! I am from Montreal, Quebec where it is allowed by law! Take care dear and I wishes that you obtaining the necessary pills to leave in peace.
Your brother-in-law was so lucky to live in a country that allows you to make your own decision when your dying. It sounds like she's went peacefully thank God God gave us the medicine to ease our pain when we are dying what a great father he is
Im not far from you, I'm so glad we have this option, I watched my dad wither away but my aunt got to chose after they enacted it, I was so glad she didnt have to suffer the same. My last moments with her were so much different than the last moments with my dad.
My sister-in-law and I were diagnosed with cancer around the same time, both being 64. She lived in the Netherlands and I in Canada where medically assisted death is legal. Sadly, hers was terminal so she made the decision to die with dignity in her beautiful backyard garden surrounded by family and friends. So far my cancer hasn't returned after surgery and treatment but if it does, I'm glad that Canada offers me the option of dying with dignity.

How can anyone make a comment about this in a negative way, without being in her shoes. If you have ever been in debilitating pain that no amount of medicine can take away, but at least you know its its temporary. To know though its perminant and will only get worse, think how would you cope, when the inevitable is only one thing. I wish her nothing but peace and relief from her pain, who in their right mind wouldn't .

Preach it sister! I watched waaaaay to many people die from cancer in my family (young ages as well) it is agony to watch BUT it is pure torture for the person dying.. I can bet there is nothing more on earth that Christine wants and that is to LIVE but unfortunately, and great sadness , that is not the outcome Who are we to judge .. I hope her journey home is a fast and easy one for her 🙏

I've seen my younger brother go through with cancer and the pain is no joke. I also had to see him end his life when he could take it no more... only thing is that I never imagined he would take things into his own hands. I've been a wreck trying to get used to the fact that my only sibling is no more, but now I have developed an understanding of what made him do it. I am able to think standing in his shoes. Nobody deserves such pain...

It is better to suffer in this life then in the next. Read Gods word. Not mans. If you take your own life you will end up in Hell for all eternity. Its not just about being a good person. We have to obey all of Gods commandments. Many members in my family have died from cancer, so i have witnessed their suffering first hand.. In the end their suffering was for God. Man I'm holding back tears . After literally watching my mom die from years and years of battling breast cancer and than knowing that my dad stroked out before he went into hospice where I would slowly watch him die of lung cancer ( I was in basic at the time and was not allowed to leave until 2 days later . Dad passed on my 7th day of being home ) I was a friggen wreck. I still battle with PTSD from both and it's been 18 years for my mom and 11 for my daddy. Cancer is a shitty shitty shitty way to go. It doesn't hold back and it doesn't care. My mom even stated that it was just too hard to go on. She didn't want to anymore . ( chemo and radiation basically kill you before the cancer does) I feel so deeply for this lady and I hope everyone that knew her respected her decision. And if there was anyone against it , well let them go through what she went through and maybe they'd change their minds .... Rest well in heaven now Christine. You fought long enough, you deserve your freedom :(
My Mother who has died of cancer,said “Sometimes it’s harder to leave this world then to come into it!” She said this just a few hours before she passed! Letting go is a choice made by the individual and God,no one else!
@@kristinholsapple2587 😥 I'm so sorry, cant imagine losing my mother so young. I was 47 when my mother passed. She was in a T.B. hospital for 4 years straight where she met my dad. She had a lung and a half removed the T.B. ate them😪 I was blessed to have her for 47 years.
My brother recently passed from cancer. It was his second time with cancer and this time he had surgery chemo and radiation until he could have no more. Cancer is relentless. Death with dignity is very important and I believe God would not fault the faithful for making that choice.
@Liz Jones I agree with you. No one should be forced to suffer through a terminal illness. It's not like we're telling other people they should do this. People just want to have the right to end their life when there is no hope and the pain and misery is unbearable.

I've known 3 people who had cancer an decided against any type of medication or chemotherapy an are gone, always thought they were brave going that route,also seen chemotherapy can do,sad to say my brother in law got diagnosed with leaukemia 3 months ago, he's taking the bone marrow & chemotherapy route, please keep him in your prayers,from Navajo Indian in Arizona.. he's name is Terry Lee,his mom also beat breast cancer
I do believe if your terminally ill you should definitely have a voice to the way you want to leave this world. It’s their right to choose.They’re the ones that are suffering and vulnerable. If they want to go with dignity then so be it.

What a tough yet comforting decision for her. By heart feels for her,I can only imagine her pain, challenges and emotional journey. If it were me I believe my choosen path would be the one she has choosen. However none of know Anything of her journeys hardships. Ive worked in pallitive care uk for 18yrs. Seen so much pain and suffering and on a personal emotional level conversations with people.. Its heart wrenching knowing im the one telling them to just keep going when its only more torture everyday.. Everybody should have the right to choose there end on there terms
I just think whever its ms or cancer nothing else can be done.. The end is enevitable we all should be able to have a choice we dont have to be martyrs.. We are pharmasutically kept alive thats where faith comes in.. We know we are going to pass but its prolonged it isnt nature xx
@@Amanda-ev3lg The bible doesn't say that suicide is a sin other than "You shall not kill". The strange view that suicide should be a mortal sin is clearly not true. Apart from the bible, why can't everyone just do as they feel is right (within the law ofc). Yes, there is so much craziness and unjust in the world. We can only do our part as best we feel is right. I do not work with euthanasia but I do work with palliative sedation. I think PS is a wonderful choice for those with pain and/or anxiety. I have nothing but good things to say about PS. Quite a few patients who initially wanted eutanasia at the end chose PS and it worked out great. About eutanasia, I think it should be an option but only after 2 psychiatrists cleared it. I don't think we should force doctors and nurses to work with eutanasia. It must be a personal choice. I will not do it and that has nothing to do with the bible or any religion at all. I just know I would feel bad about it, maybe forever. I do have some substance to it. About 15 years ago I had to kill one of my cat's 2 days old babies. It was so sick and paralyzed in 2 legs. The cat-mom didn't want it. She carried it away every time I tried getting her to hed it. The kitten was suffering and I thought it'd be quicker if I did it rather then wait the whole night for the vet. So I put the kitten in a pillowcase, took a deep breath and smashed it's head with big hammer. It died instantly. There were no more suffering. I sat on the floor with the kitten for hours, crying like a baby. My thought was Who am I to decide who lives or dies. I felt horrible. I was pregnant at the time, so some extra hormones might have done it's trick. However.. I will never kill anyone or anything again.
@@veronicaue180 It's important to recognize the difference between death with dignity and euthanasia though. Euthanasia is the taking of another life with the purpose of ending suffering. That would be like administering a purposeful dose of pain medication to kill the person. Death with dignity laws require the individual to be cognizant and 100% able to take their own medication. No one can put the pills in your mouth for you. I've worked in hospice as well, and discussions about death with dignity happen often. Patients are monitored closely, both mentally and physically, to keep suffering as minimal as possible... But in many cases of hospice, like cancer, the pain eventually overcomes even the strongest of drugs. Sedation is an option, and in states where there is no dignity law, it's what often happens in these cases... But I've also seen patients research methods of suicide using household items and such in order to put a stop to it. As this woman was saying, she feared she would get past the point of taking the medication... Which would mean that instead of having control of her end of life for herself, she would be progressively incapacitated and was expected to drown in her body as she succumbed. Knowing that drowning is one of the most painful deaths a person can suffer, I don't blame her at all. Many patients who are given the go ahead and the prescription never use it. They find comfort in knowing that choice is theirs, and that comfort follows to the last breath. This was the case for Terry Pratchett for example, a very famous author who became a huge advocate just before his death. I highly recommend listening to his talks. Anyway, the point I'm making is that euthanasia is not the same thing. I've not heard of a single program that administers the drugs for the patient. Every program simply provides the most comfortable method they can and the clearest instructions in order to make sure that the patient does not create a disastrous and painful outcome rather than the peaceful death desired... At least here in the US and in the few programs I know of overseas. I cannot speak to laws in other countries, but here, euthanasia is not legally permitted. The death with dignity movement is actively advocating to avoid euthanasia when you really think about it. It's keeping that decision in the hands of the patient instead of the caregivers. And for the record, the patient has to pass multiple psychiatric screenings and also have multiple medical doctors review their case to confirm the condition warrants the consideration. You can't just go get death pills, there's a whole application process, and sometimes patients are not able to complete it before they become legally incapacitated. Many of us supporters speak about honoring a patient's choice because we've watched this happen to an individual and watched the painful desperation in their eyes.
I trmember as a child watching my mother's friend die of this and she was in horrible pain. It was everywhere on her body and so sad. I understand how she feels. RIP.

Yes I still have weapons and a crap load of ammo. When everyone was buying weapons at a gun show in 2012 I bought $3,000.00 in ammo.
So thankful that she lived in a state that doesn't believe they need to control this woman's decisions. And that the people she treasured held her in their arms, cradling her in their love when she needed them so much. I totally agree with this woman. I’ve seen people on their way to transitioning to the next level and it is not a pretty way to go. As we all make vain attempts to stay for others, we are only hurting ourselves. For anyone living with an incurable disease, let us make the choice of how to leave our broken bodies and begin the next chapter of existence.
My aunt was assisted by Dr Kevorkian and so much drama resulted for our family while trying to grieve for her. I am so happy to see death with dignity gaining momentum in the US.
It should be a wake up call to us all that the only smile we see on this woman’s face is the thought of death. Does that not speak volumes to the extent of human suffering she must have endured to come to that point. We put an animal down to end its suffering without any regard for what the animal wants. Why is it so difficult to allow a consenting terminal patient to right to die.

I lived in SLO back in 1987-1989. I just happened upon this too. Broke my heart, she had to go through this horrible painful part of her life. Blessing to her family who will miss their brave sister daughter friend. I'll be 20 years fighting cancer, in different places of my body. Silicone poison from 1980's exploded breast implants. We thought we were safe. Anyway, once i had my first cancer, I felt my purpose was to help others in their own fight. We all handle it differently. Mine are caught early, invasion minimal. Its always in the back of my mind it will end up in my brain. If so I also would like to choose my way to leave this earth. She is a warrior , brave and stalwart. It really does get to a point when enough is enough. I pray her last days she saw all her loved ones, to say I love you,and goodbye. Now an angel helping God, right with other angels. We are grateful for the angels who surround us with their arms to comfort the sick or dying & families who will miss them. God has a plan and purpose for each one of his children. My sister suffered so with cancer & NY State is not a right to die with dignity state. She used to cry & beg me to get a gun etc. Unless u are in their shoes we cannot judge them. Cancer just eats u from the inside out. My sister basically staved to death. She looked like a holocaust survivor. She went from 155 pounds down to 60 or maybe 55 at the time of her death. 😭 I would support her choice to die with dignity as she told me this is NO quality of life!
I had a health scare recently to do with swelling on my brain, thankfully there's no block or tumour but it made me think about mortality and I really feel for people who genuinely have to sit and make this decision. If you were going to end your life tomorrow, would you be satisfied with what you had done? I hope her passing was as peaceful as she expected and her family are at least relieved that she doesn't need to suffer anymore
I am a animal lover. I own a pet resort, rescue, foster 100’s of dogs/puppies every year and have 8 large dogs of my own so when I say this I am not trying to say animals are less needing BUT when our pets are suffering we have the option of “putting them to sleep” and if an owner can’t afford it or decides not to then most of society say they are being cruel and that the best decision is to end their suffering. Humans are another story, why? People who have terminal diagnosis and/or pain so bad most of us can’t even imagine how bad it is should absolutely have the choice whether to be “put to sleep” or wait it out.
What a blessing for those patients in states that do not have to deal or expect suffering in the final days of their earthly lives. It is about time and now we can pass from this earth on our time and with as much beauty and love as we can muster. God bless those that have to choose their passing.

I just put my elderly shitzu down a week ago. I told the vet that it was so peaceful that it is too bad we can not do that for us in our state . He is so much missed but happy I made the choice for him to no longer suffer. It was hard, but hard because of MY feelings. I didn't want to let go. I did manage to let go out of a great love and compassion.
Back about a year ago on Voting Day (about the time you made your comment) I decided to let my Pomeranian die naturally. I wanted him to die in the comfort of his home instead of a stark cold clinic setting where my last such experience, the vet wouldn't allow me to be with her. Worst decision of my life! Why can't the vet hook up the tube and meds, then allow us to bring them home to inject it ourselves, as we gather around him with love? Why can't they do that with suffering humans?
This lady is a warrior ❤ god bless her its heartbreaking to watch this lady going through this but she has every right to do what she needs to do without people poking thier nose in total respect and love to her

Exactly. Those words resonate with me, as well. So many times I've said, "I can't do this anymore". Eventually, the pain subsides to a tolerable level. However, it is whilst in the throes of excruciating pain and fear of dying right then/there, that I know once it gets to the point that there is not even a brief period of relief, that I don't want to remain. I want to see my grandchildren grow up, get married, and have their own children. It just may not be in the cards. I don't think the world will last that long, nontheless, myself.

My brother-in-law died yesterday after receiving the 3 injections (shots) for dying with dignity, no more pain. He was happy and all the family presented said it was done and he went in peace, no pain! I am from Montreal, Quebec where it is allowed by law! Im not far from you, I'm so glad we have this option, I watched my dad wither away but my aunt got to chose after they enacted it, I was so glad she didnt have to suffer the same. My last moments with her were so much different than the last moments with my dad.
My sister-in-law and I were diagnosed with cancer around the same time, both being 64. She lived in the Netherlands and I in Canada where medically assisted death is legal. Sadly, hers was terminal so she made the decision to die with dignity in her beautiful backyard garden surrounded by family and friends. So far my cancer hasn't returned after surgery and treatment but if it does, I'm glad that Canada offers me the option of dying with dignity.

How can anyone make a comment about this in a negative way, without being in her shoes. If you have ever been in debilitating pain that no amount of medicine can take away, but at least you know its its temporary. To know though its perminant and will only get worse, think how would you cope, when the inevitable is only one thing. I've seen my younger brother go through with cancer and the pain is no joke. I also had to see him end his life when he could take it no more... only thing is that I never imagined he would take things into his own hands. I've been a wreck trying to get used to the fact that my only sibling is no more, but now I have developed an understanding of what made him do it. I am able to think standing in his shoes. Nobody deserves such pain...

Man I'm holding back tears . After literally watching my mom die from years and years of battling breast cancer and than knowing that my dad stroked out before he went into hospice where I would slowly watch him die of lung cancer ( I was in basic at the time and was not allowed to leave until 2 days later . Dad passed on my 7th day of being home ) I was a friggen wreck. I still battle with PTSD from both and it's been 18 years for my mom and 11 for my daddy. Cancer is a shitty shitty shitty way to go. It doesn't hold back and it doesn't care. My mom even stated that it was just too hard to go on. She didn't want to anymore . ( chemo and radiation basically kill you before the cancer does) I feel so deeply for this lady and I hope everyone that knew her respected her decision. And if there was anyone against it , well let them go through what she went through and maybe they'd change their minds .... Rest well in heaven now Christine. You fought long enough, you deserve your freedom :(

My brother recently passed from cancer. It was his second time with cancer and this time he had surgery chemo and radiation until he could have no more. Cancer is relentless. Death with dignity is very important and I believe God would not fault the faithful for making that choice.

Its heart wrenching knowing im the one telling them to just keep going when its only more torture everyday.. Everybody should have the right to choose there end on there terms

I do not work with euthanasia but I do work with palliative sedation. I think PS is a wonderful choice for those with pain and/or anxiety. I have nothing but good things to say about PS. Quite a few patients who initially wanted eutanasia at the end chose PS and it worked out great.
About eutanasia, I think it should be an option but only after 2 psychiatrists cleared it. I don't think we should force doctors and nurses to work with eutanasia. It must be a personal choice. I will not do it and that has nothing to do with the bible or any religion at all. I just know I would feel bad about it, maybe forever. I do have some substance to it.
About 15 years ago I had to kill one of my cat's 2 days old babies. It was so sick and paralyzed in 2 legs. The cat-mom didn't want it. She carried it away every time I tried getting her to hed it. The kitten was suffering and I thought it'd be quicker if I did it rather then wait the whole night for the vet. So I put the kitten in a pillowcase, took a deep breath and smashed it's head with big hammer. It died instantly. There were no more suffering. I sat on the floor with the kitten for hours, crying like a baby. My thought was Who am I to decide who lives or dies. I felt horrible. I was pregnant at the time, so some extra hormones might have done it's trick. However.. I will never kill anyone or anything again.
@@veronicaue180 It's important to recognize the difference between death with dignity and euthanasia though. Euthanasia is the taking of another life with the purpose of ending suffering. That would be like administering a purposeful dose of pain medication to kill the person. Death with dignity laws require the individual to be cognizant and 100% able to take their own medication. No one can put the pills in your mouth for you. I've worked in hospice as well, and discussions about death with dignity happen often. Patients are monitored closely, both mentally and physically, to keep suffering as minimal as possible... But in many cases of hospice, like cancer, the pain eventually overcomes even the strongest of drugs. Sedation is an option, and in states where there is no dignity law, it's what often happens in these cases... But I've also seen patients research methods of suicide using household items and such in order to put a stop to it. As this woman was saying, she feared she would get past the point of taking the medication... Which would mean that instead of having control of her end of life for herself, she would be progressively incapacitated and was expected to drown in her body as she succumbed. Knowing that drowning is one of the most painful deaths a person can suffer, I don't blame her at all.
Many patients who are given the go ahead and the prescription never use it. They find comfort in knowing that choice is theirs, and that comfort follows to the last breath. This was the case for Terry Pratchett for example, a very famous author who became a huge advocate just before his death. I highly recommend listening to his talks.
Anyway, the point I'm making is that euthanasia is not the same thing. I've not heard of a single program that administers the drugs for the patient. Every program simply provides the most comfortable method they can and the clearest instructions in order to make sure that the patient does not create a disastrous and painful outcome rather than the peaceful death desired... At least here in the US and in the few programs I know of overseas. I cannot speak to laws in other countries, but here, euthanasia is not legally permitted. The death with dignity movement is actively advocating to avoid euthanasia when you really think about it. It's keeping that decision in the hands of the patient instead of the caregivers.
And for the record, the patient has to pass multiple psychiatric screenings and also have multiple medical doctors review their case to confirm the condition warrants the consideration. You can't just go get death pills, there's a whole application process, and sometimes patients are not able to complete it before they become legally incapacitated. Many of us supporters speak about honoring a patient's choice because we've watched this happen to an individual and watched the painful desperation in their eyes.

I totally agree with this woman. I’ve seen people on their way to transitioning to the next level and it is not a pretty way to go. As we all make vain attempts to stay for others, we are only hurting ourselves. For anyone living with an incurable disease, let us make the choice of how to leave our broken bodies and begin the next chapter of existence.

I lived in SLO back in 1987-1989. I just happened upon this too. Broke my heart, she had to go through this horrible painful part of her life. Blessing to her family who will miss their brave sister daughter friend. I'll be 20 years fighting cancer, in different places of my body. Silicone poison from 1980's exploded breast implants. We thought we were safe. Anyway, once i had my first cancer, I felt my purpose was to help others in their own fight. We all handle it differently. Mine are caught early, invasion minimal. Its always in the back of my mind it will end up in my brain. If so I also would like to choose my way to leave this earth. She is a warrior , brave and stalwart. It really does get to a point when enough is enough. I pray her last days she saw all her loved ones, to say I love you,and goodbye. Now an angel helping God, right with other angels. My sister suffered so with cancer & NY State is not a right to die with dignity state. She used to cry & beg me to get a gun etc. Unless u are in their shoes we cannot judge them. Cancer just eats u from the inside out. My sister basically staved to death. She looked like a holocaust survivor. She went from 155 pounds down to 60 or maybe 55 at the time of her death. 😭 I would support her choice to die with dignity as she told me this is NO quality of life!

I had a health scare recently to do with swelling on my brain, thankfully there's no block or tumour but it made me think about mortality and I really feel for people who genuinely have to sit and make this decision. If you were going to end your life tomorrow, would you be satisfied with what you had done? I hope her passing was as peaceful as she expected and her family are at least relieved that she doesn't need to suffer anymore

I am a animal lover. I own a pet resort, rescue, foster 100’s of dogs/puppies every year and have 8 large dogs of my own so when I say this I am not trying to say animals are less needing BUT when our pets are suffering we have the option of “putting them to sleep” and if an owner can’t afford it or decides not to then most of society say they are being cruel and that the best decision is to end their suffering. Humans are another story, why? People who have terminal diagnosis and/or pain so bad most of us can’t even imagine how bad it is should absolutely have the choice whether to be “put to sleep” or wait it out.

What a blessing for those patients in states that do not have to deal or expect suffering in the final days of their earthly lives. It is about time and now we can pass from this earth on our time and with as much beauty and love as we can muster. God bless those that have to choose their passing.

Every human should have this option.
What get me is that America believes it's an act of mercy when an animal is killed to end its suffering, but can't give a person that same mercy.
Is the hypocrites at the Catholic Church.
They ask you every Sunday to empty your pockets do they can continue with their lavish life.
Not only that, they protect the pedos with the same money that supposed to go to the ones in need.

I just put my elderly shitzu down a week ago. I told the vet that it was so peaceful that it is too bad we can not do that for us in our state . He is so much missed but happy I made the choice for him to no longer suffer. It was hard, but hard because of MY feelings. I didn't want to let go. I did manage to let go out of a great love and compassion.

Back about a year ago on Voting Day (about the time you made your comment) I decided to let my Pomeranian die naturally.
I wanted him to die in the comfort of his home instead of a stark cold clinic setting where my last such experience, the vet wouldn't allow me to be with her.
Worst decision of my life! Why can't the vet hook up the tube and meds, then allow us to bring them home to inject it ourselves, as we gather around him with love?
Why can't they do that with suffering humans?
We want control over our outcomes and to select the time and place. Thank you for this honest and courageous video.

I completely agree with her. We euthenise animals in the name of mercy, we should be allowed, as adults, to be merciful to ourselves.
