Thank you, Mark, for the historical insights into the region. I always enjoy sailing with you, Paul, Bruce and the entire Sydney Raid group, albeit vicariously from the currently frozen Japanese north. Cheers!
As a local to Rathmines / Fishing Point I enjoyed the footage of the WW2 base, I haven’t seen this before, great find indeed, as a member of the Newcastle Hunter Trailer Yacht Association we use the seaplane ramp for our OTB group and Styles Point is our base for most of our activities, It’s a very protected anchorage in most winds, Pamela B is a work of art and a true enigma, thanks for a very informative clip.
The C47 of the ocean imo.. there’s a lovely “black cat” being restored at Shell Harbour. A recent trip to Townsville showed a tragic accident with a PBY in WW2. Fascinating legacy where form and function produced a lovely looking machine.
Some neat history and some stronger wind sailing. "" With the Oz Geese we find once about about 18 knots of wind that a reef allows the boat to point higher upwind because of the reduced drag of the sail luffing or flapping most of the time. But it is important to have the right amount of sail to keep the boat moving well in the lulls.
Going home on the Sunday i had a couple of rolls on the boom as I wasn’t in a mad rush and just wanted a comfortable ride home. To my surprise the speeds on the GPS were the same as with full sail up on the Saturday. Could still do with a bit more sail in the light weather.
Great stuff facinating history, thank you to you and Paul for an insight to the good life.

One of my favourite aircraft of all time and Paradox! Thank you! Merry Christmas!

Beautiful music, beautiful boat.

I had a segment on the catalina crash on Lord Howe. The cat flew out from Rathmines. But it got cut in the editing!
