    As always, great review! The 135 GM and these new lenses 50 GM and 35 GM that are competitively compact performers are the reasons I’m in GASeous state with Sony

    This is a great lens, not heavy or big and produces fantastic images. Being an old timer from the 50mm “standard lens” era, I’m still getting use to it after almost seven months of use and that 50mm f1.2 GM released not too long afterward turned me back to my “standard lens” mode and reduced usage. Really want to use this 35mm more. Both this 35mm and 50mm new GM (change started with 24mm f1.4 GM) are different from the old Sony lenses in my eyes, started to generate color, transition and temp much more neutral and natural. Your review is spot on as usual. Thank you.

      Hi Dustin as usual a very good and very informative review of the product. By any chance, you or anybody know about SYX code as part of the branding on some of Sony lenses including the 35mm f1.4gm. Thank you in advance.

    Thank you for this review. Some interesting points made here that I didn't see in other reviews. Have had this lens for about 2 weeks now and I am absolutely loving it. Beautiful color rendering, soft bokeh and nice sharp edges. Glad I was patient and didn't go for the Sigma. The 50mm 1.2 is definitely going to be a challenging lens to not dump $2k on considering how lovely this lens and even the 20mm G are. Really is a world of difference from the standard FE line which is already fairly good.

    • @DustinAbbottTWI

      The most recent Sony lenses are definitely next level compared to earlier FE lenses.

    Love this lens. Fantastic for closeup too, with pretty much the same reproduction ratio as 135GM. It produces images with a near identical "look" to the 135GM too (apart from perspective, of course). They make a fantastic complementary pair for travelling relatively light but with top-IQ on tap. Super!!

    Hi Dustin, have you used the Zeiss Distagon?
    I would be interested to hear your thoughts on that one.
    I also agree with what many others have stated about you being the most trusted reviewer on RUclips.

    • @DustinAbbottTWI

      I haven't used the Distagon. It was already an older lens when I started reviewing Sony, so I never went back and covered it.

    I keep wondering why you show several times a snapshot of a FE1.8/14 GM lens in this review for a FE 1.4/35 GM? Was this intentional?

    Hi dustin, i had a curious question for you.
    Is there any difference in image quality resolution, between equivalent MP sensors.
    Example a9 and a7 both 24mp will there be any difference?
    Thanks

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  3 года назад

      I didn’t see a significant difference in sharpness. I did see more variability in dynamic range and ISO performance (the a73’s sensor was better in this regard)

      The reason i ask, ive seen two reviews about the ,r5, r, rp, r6 ul against each other and analysing image quality, ( irene ) (slanted lense) The eos R and RP Have a cloudy resolve to the image when compared to the 20mp r6.
      I thought it must be an autofocus thing.

    This really makes me wish Tamron had brought their 35mm 1.4 to the Sony E system. This Gmaster is a beautiful lens with an amazing rendering, but I feel the tamron could get me 94 percent there at a much lower price.

    Great review as always, covers all the bases and very un-biased. I am a Sigma 35 F1.2 user and absolutely love that lens, it will be great if you can do some update with the comparison between the Sigma 35 1.2 vs 35GM, based on some other review site it seems like the Sigma 35 1.2 still offer " better" bokeh, well, better in my own eye at least, especially when shooting at close distance, the back ground rendering from the Sigma 1.2 seems to be quite a bit better even stop down to F1.4 to match the Sony GM, can you comment on this ? I am planning to stay put with the Sigma 35 1.2 but adding the Voigtlander 35 F2 APO for everything else besides portrait or anything that need the shallow DOF of the F1.2. Thanks.

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  3 года назад +1

      My experience is that lenses with a bigger maximum aperture still have larger, softer bokeh highlights even when stopped down to similar aperture values of a lens with the smaller maximum aperture. The Sigma would win for quantity of blur, but I think the GM has slightly softer, creamier quality of blur.
