If the insurance paid out then my guess is that the insurance company technically owns the card. And given that there is probably a police report attached, and CGC is obviously aware of the theft, they are probably legally obligated to confiscate the card and hand it over to the insurance company.
Unfortunately that's how the law works... no matter how many times a stolen item was sold, whoever gets caught with stolen property gets shafted and loses it all without any reimbursement

Right but should be law enforcement and the insurance company solving the situation. Instead we have CGC seizing it (likely without a warrant), asking a customer to contact them and then not being able to explain what is going on with it.
@RattlePokemon yea, for sure. CGC needs to do better. I agree that a police report needs to be required for this type of action, and the information needs to be passed to the customer. It's going to be hard for the customer to get their seller to refund them without it.
@@RattlePokemon The card was reported stolen to CGC by law enforcement. There is an active police report. CGC listed the card as stolen on the website. Your take here doesn't make sense. It's illegal to be in possession of stolen property. This is clearly a situation where the cards were reported stolen to the police and they went through all the steps to have insurance cover it. The grading company would likely want to immediately relinquish the stolen goods to law enforcement so as to not be dealing in stolen goods and potentially breaking the law themselves. Then the police would either keep them as evidence or give them to the insurance company, or maybe the original owner. Theres absolutely no situation where they would be permitted to return them to the guy who purchased stolen goods. Yeah, it sucks for the guy who ends up getting caught with the stolen items and holding the bag, but his recourse isn't to go after the items or the people who confiscated them, but rather to go after the person who sold him the stolen goods, in the same way you would with scam product.
Why would you want CGC to send back the STOLEN cards to the individual? Or even compensate them for the card when it was STOLEN? You can’t blindly assume the submitter is telling the truth no matter how innocent they look. That’s really irresponsible and straight up messed up. You do not know the history of the card and who is lying here or telling the truth smh I don’t care if he don’t steal the card. I bet if they had returned the card to the person you would be here doing a video calling out cgc for returning the stolen card to the person smh.
You're right! If CGC compensated the person who sent them the stolen property, CGC would immediately become the place to send all stolen property to make some cash. They would instantly become the number one fence of stolen graded cards.
100% correct, some people are so caught up in their love for pokemon drama they don't even see it from a logical perspective. Cgc did exactly what psa would have done or any other responsible company. Stolen property doesn't get returned, that's a no brainer.

In the restaurant industry, that's how it works with confiscating fake IDs as well. Underage people freak out when you steal their fake ID.
