In Dan's last skid he lost to Dustin & Chandler... Both of whom fought for the title afterward. After totally dominating one of the top unranked guys at LW to show he still deserves his ranking, he lost to Islam who is now fighting for the title & to Arnold Allen at FW which he lost cuz the weight cut was too hard. So far he's lost only to top 10 guys & has shown he can beat unranked guys. If he beats Tony, he could get another big match-up against Paddy. Both fights are 50/50 but if he wins both then he's right back into the top 10.

If he wins one fight he's back into the top 10, he's currently rank 13 with McGregor and Tony ahead of him. Sure it's a stacked division but with guys like RDA coming off a loss he could easily go into top 10, sure he might get leapfrogged by Gamrot if he beats Darisuh etc, but as soon as Islam and Oliveira fight one of them will get the title and everyone will get bumped up a spot regardless. One win, he's back in top 10 for sure.
Also makes no sense for him to fight unranked Paddy Pimblett right now from Dan's POV. Paddy should fight with either RDA or Tsarukyan who are both top 10 guys coming off a loss.

Since his last win he's lost to Islam and Allen, Islam is the favorite to beat the champ and Allen is a serious dark horse in his division, very similar to how Islam was looked at a few fights ago imo. I don't want Olivera to lose but realistically both of them could easily become future champs, especially with Volk leaving the division. Nothing wrong with losing to them. Yes, in MMA there are so many ways to win and consequently so many ways to lose, you can't always fully cover all of those possibilities, so losses don't tell that much. And sometimes a fighter hits a plateau, not everyone can be a Top5 fighter, and until you start losing to lower level fighters indicating a real physical decline, there's always the chance you break that plateau.

Dans fight IQ is horrendous, hes reckless, constantly getting into wars, taking shit tons of damage, damn near no defense, has probably had years shaved off his life, got his chin absolutely demolished by chandler of all people and cant grapple to save his life and can no longer compete against a decent featherweight after rehydrating despite having a natural size advantage, now i dont think its time to retire just yet but one or two more devastating losses hammers the final nail. But his time at the top and any hope for a title are now nothing.

that's unfair, he was basically 'on call' during the pandemic. hard to say if he's washed up or just fucking tired. no champ or even first year signees to the UFC had to go through as much just to get to the fight. Most fighters rightfully would just cancel the fight, save the money and time. I think it was literally 4+ months straight he had to be quarantined in a hotel in the middle east. What made it worse is due to New Zealand crap rules on Covid he was basically locked out of his country. He had to quarantine in both countries. then they stopped his main source of his business which was his gym. Literally was trying to arrest Dan and other UFC fighters for practicing in New Zealand. i know all UFC fighters go through it but his case was truly unique.
