Well, first of all andy farrell isn't going anywhere until after the next world cup - thank christ. When he finally does go I would 100% support ROG for coach because a) it would be hilarious and b) he has an incredible pedigree. Winning with lr back to back is a huge accomplishment and those who have gripes with him because of history need to move on. He could be an amazing coach for Ireland. Also - he's still very young! To do what he has so far in such a limited amount of time is a huge signpost for his talent and potential as a wc coach
Don't see it happening that soon , can't see the IRFU overlooking coaches already in the Irish camp PO'C, Easterby , as for France , they don't really appoint non National head coaches.
Funny how seldom Leo Cullen's name is dropped as a possible Ireland coach. He is head honcho at Leinster, isn't he. You don't get that job unless you're good. Maybe some will say he isn't really a coaching coach but maybe he's a coach who allows his coaches to coach?
@@KickOnRugby It's understandable you would think that, and it's my point. If Leo Cullen is the quiet, forgotten man at home in his own country, then he's definitely going to be overlooked by an international audience. Leo Cullen has been Head Coach at Leinster since 2015. Nienaber and Lancaster before him are shrewd coaching choices, and Cullen will have had a big input in choosing tem, but the organisational brain behind Leinster for 9 years now is Leo.
@@wewhofly good to know. Thanks for clearing up. You think he’d want the Ireland job? Maybe just Happy at Leinster especially if he’a been there for that long…
If O Gara keeps on going in the same trajectory his Career has taken to date he will be the Ireland manager at some stage. He may not like Leinster supporters as of today. However, he does love Irish supporters.. Leinster players would play for him because he cares for his players. This is evident from how he defends his LR players. That’s just how he is! In my opinion, he is a great manager and man.. yes, a bit crazy. But very much authentic. We are so lucky in Ireland with having a choice from these great managers. For now Andy is the man and has the Irish hearts.
O gara behaviour is more like a soccer manager than a rugby manager so he should take the Ireland soccer managers job they can’t get anyone to take that job at the moment would be a perfect fit😉
Not sure about O' Gara as the national coach of Ireland. He's very divisive and can be quite petulant when things don't go his way. The Munster guys would love him but he has caused a lot of pain to the Leinster players who make up the majority of the Irish team. Regarding the French job O' Gara has has lots of problems in the French league and has been disciplined and fined on several occasions. The FRU don't really like him and they would probably not give the job to a foreigner.
I see. I might just be alittle too excited at the thought of seeing what he could do as a coach at international level. Agreed re FRU. That’s a tough one
4:44 what do you mean will Ireland still keep him on? The IRFU renewed his contract up till the next world cup. And fave him full permission to do the Lions.
People in Ireland love Andy Farrell and we want to keep him for as long as possible. I saw the interview with ROG, it was with the OTB guys, they brought it up and he answered it the way he should have, "yeah sure I'd love to coach an international side one day", that was it. Basically this is a storm in a teacup, nothing to see here, a nothing burger. ROG is young, I've no doubt he will get an international coaching role in the years ahead but to suggest it would be Ireland and before the WC is irresponsible imo. I love your podcasts but sorry to add you're reaching on this one. Try to keep it grounded as reporting like this could cause unwanted rumours which we don't need. Thank you. ☘💚
Farrell is contracted until the next world cup. OGara will get the job eventually, but not for the next world cup. France have never had a foreign head coach, it would be interesting to see if he was the first one
Farrell is taking a sabbatical to coach the Lions in 2025 and returns to Ireland for the next World Cup. O’Gara is contracted with La Rochelle until then. O’Gara could possibly succeed Farrell then. Whether he does depends. Farrell could conceivably continue if he has continued to be successful. O’Gara May or may not be in the running, depending on what he achieves over the next three years.
Either he gets tempted early to coach France or he coaches Ireland after next world cup, cannot see him not being Ireland head coach at some stage in the next few cycles. - Irish guy in Germany
Farrell is not going anywhere, we will have to see how ROG is doing in 4 years time, if Farrell moves on. Good luck to him if he got to do France, highly doubtful though. I think realistically he has to get his start in International with a lesser Nation and prove his ability.
Do not see the French going with a foreigner. They’re usually strict about that - although he will qualify for a French citizenship fairly soon should he want it. He wouldn’t fit with the Leinster guys.
@@KickOnRugby there are 32 counties in Ireland including the northern counties. Historically for 1000’s of years in some shape or another the provinces represented distinct kingdoms and competed against each other, sometimes over border lands etc. Each province has a different dialect of Gaeilge, our language. Leinster was a staging ground for the Norman Invasion (1169) and much later plantation of Ireland, so Dublin has been a very different place to the rest of Ireland culturally. In Munster they still call Dubliners “Jackeens” or little jacks which is a historical reference to the English in Dublin. So the other provinces mocked the association and collaboration with the English, and that can translate to sporting rivalry too. Beyond history, there’s sporting rivalry in Ireland through native sports. Gaelic football and Hurling which are the number 1 and 2 sports by a wide margin there. The latter stages of the all Ireland tournament usually has the same Munster team(Kerry) and Dublin, so Leinster. @@KickOnRugby they could and are put aside by the players. But there’s some resentment (rightly or wrongly) about choice of players.
