You left out how you can also establish general jurisdictions with corporations if the contacts or systematic and continuous. So it's more than where they're incorporated and where they're headquartered....
Hi Benny, This is a civil case so the state does not bring evidence. The plaintiff will have the burden of showing that it is fair for the court to assert jurisdiction over the out of state defendant. For example, let's say plaintiff from New York wants to sue a defendant from California in a New York court for breach of contract. The defendant might ask the judge in New York to dismiss this case for lack of personal jurisdiction. The plaintiff will then be responsible for showing why the court should have power over the defendant. If the court grants the motion plaintiff will probably have to sue in California instead. This is a very common occurrence and courts in the United States have a lot of experience dealing with this kind of dispute.

That is true, in the rare occurrence where the corporation's contacts are so extensive that it can be considered "at home" in the forum state.
