I love atmospheric black metal. This album is top notch for me. One of my favorite albums. Ephialtes is amazing!! One of my all time favorite songs. Great review gents.
Necrotic Nick- This album stuck with me for awhile after listening to it to be honest. It's a haunting listen and that alone would have made it a killer release but all those killer riffs really did it as well.
It is haunting, I just realised you've reviewed this album guys, I got it today in mail. I really enjoyed your review. Alternatively to your opinion, feels like a collection of tracks with the purpose of spreading evil and darkness all around, it hits your emotions, therefore I consider it Art, I usually play it at night as I live by myself! :)
Hey fellas, loving the review. There was a bit where you guys praised the production, which was done by none other than Dave Otero (Cattle Decapitation/Archspire/Primitive Man) so it's no surprise that it sounds great.
Recently found your channel & I'm immediately a fan. If you guys loved this Akhlys album, check out his other work with Aoratos. Also, if you feel creeped out now, check out Terra Tenebrosa 😈 Focus on their songs "Exuvia," "Where Shadows Have Teeth," "The End Is Mine To Ride." Go ahead...snoop around!
Necrotic Nick- We saw this on a lot of lists and multiple people brought them up to us so we thought we'd check it out. Glad we did. It's like we unearthed the soundtrack to a demonic possession. lol
Great review, pretty much spot on to my thoughts. His vocals are what drew me to them ,, truly phenomenal, and the music when it is there is fantastic. Drumming is another highlight. Their first album The Dreaming I is akin to this in approach and sound so if you enjoyed Melinoe you will enjoy it too. Their second album Supplication is everything you didn’t enjoy though. Those droning moments with occasional choirs, chants or voices or noises..that’s the entire Supplication album. Part 1 is that in spades, Part 2 somebody hits a drum at the beginning about three times and it sounds almost accidentally then it continues on in the same way of part 1. I skipped through as I had enough of the atmosphere and wasn’t impressed that I hadn’t heard anything musical and didn’t find any skipping through part 2 either. It’s like the soundtrack for the Haunted House you mentioned if you just wanted a particular feel. If you want black metal or any music avoid this, seriously, and order The Dreaming I and Melinoe. Fantastic band but yeah a misfire with Supplication. Have a great one 🤘
Necrotic Nick- Thanks for the heads up. I'd like to avoid the stuff that's all dark ambience and get the more black metal centric stuff because I loved that and how they blended well with all the ambience.
Thanks for your work folks!! It is always nice to hear your comments and perspectives. When I was listening this album for the first time I remembered when I readed the William Peter Blatty book (The Exorcist). The author of the book describes the evil possession with an interesting depth and darkness....what he wrote it is incredible. Akhlys reminded me of that dense atmosphere!! I recomend both: Blatty`s book and this album hahahahahhaha....greetings from a Brazilian living in Scotland!!! Thanks again for your work!!
Awesome review ! I thought this album was very atmospheric with other elements where the drumming was incredible and the vocals were amazing which added to the many layers that kept on building throughout the album . There is a lot of death metal /black metal bands evolving to find that certain sound that flows to generate the energy with the album . In saying that I think this album does do that to a certain extent so I really enjoyed it and loving horror movies as well it goes well together ! 🤘🏿
Necrotic Nick- This album literally haunted me after listening to it. I'd say it was one of the most effective uses of atmosphere I've heard in terms of being flat out unsettling. I loved it though.
Amazing album... Kyle Spanswick aka Naas Alcameth is the King of atmospheric Black metal. Akhlys, Aoratos, Bestia Arcana and Nightbringer are all amazing bands.
Necrotic Nick- I'm definitely familiar with Nightbringer. I love all the albums I've picked up by them. I'd say they're one of the best US Black Metal bands out there.
Thought it said Afsky at first, another album getting hyped. BTW did you hear Malokarpatan? I slept on it, now it's near top of my list. Strong early Master's Hammer mixed with trad metal and odd folky + synthy parts. It's really good.
I thought the album had good moments on it, but like you guys said there is quite a bit of atmosphere that somewhat takes away from the listen as a whole. When it comes to atmospheric black metal, None's "Damp Chill of Life" is about my threshold for lack of instruments, and that album was spectacular.
Necrotic Nick- As much as I loved the unsettling atmosphere, they did labor it a bit too much. I would have like more actual music. That None album is a bleak, depressing but absolutely amazing album. You really feel that album.
Absolute masterpiece this album. Guys, for something quite different in the 'metal' sphere, have you tried Indonesian duo Senyawa? Bit of an acquired taste, but might scratch a ritualistic itch
I'll check this one out. My favorite black metal album this year was ...and Oceans: Cosmic World Mother. I also thought the new Dark Fortress was really good but I don't have that one yet.
@@thrallsofmetal he sent me his 2020 heavy playlist on Spotify. Skeletal Remains, Ulcerate, Diabolic Oath, Sweven etc. That dude is bang on with death and black metal
Necrotic Nick- That Sweven album was really close to making it on my list too. I really loved the album Sweven by Morbus Chron and I thought that was a worthy continuation of that sound.
Okay, I've listened to this. Now my thoughts are: this is really intense; band needs to seriously consider making the music for a survival horror video game.
This album is at the top of my best of the year list. Indeed, a masterpiece!! Thanks for your work folks!!

Necrotic Nick- This album stuck with me for awhile after listening to it to be honest. It's a haunting listen and that alone would have made it a killer release but all those killer riffs really did it as well.
Gods Without Name and Melinoe are my daily go-to albums.
Great album. 9/10 for me, but their previous album 'The Dreaming I' is 10/10, no joke my album of the decade.
Necrotic Nick- Still need to check that one.

Necrotic Nick- I think we were too shaken by how unrelentingly haunting this album was to remember who did the production but he did a fantastic job.
i can't wait for the new lp which is now on youtube

Love this album and their "The Dreaming I"
Necrotic Nick- Yeah, I probably going to snag all of them.
@@thrallsofmetal skip the 1st one, has nothing to do with The Dreaming I & Melinoe...
Love the vids as always. I'm still stuck on Xentrix after watching the underrated thrash video a couple months back.
Necrotic Nick- I still need to snag Xentrix's debut. That one is also badass.
Female vocals on the track Incubatio? It's a succubus demon. Watch the lyrics video - it's every bit as terrifying as you might imagine.
They're both badass albums
I just heard this record last week. It’s really exceptional, and so is the rest of their discography
Necrotic Nick- I plan on ordering it here soon along with their other albums. This one definitely made me a fan of the band.
@@thrallsofmetal the second album is the one that really caught my attention- it is terrifying.
What I love about this album is the sound they make. It's just so evil and haunting. I couldn't stop hearing it. I still cant😈🕯🔥🕯

Necrotic Nick- I haven't jammed either yet to be honest. I'll probably spend some time after the holidays catching up on what I missed from this year.
@@thrallsofmetalthe malokarpatan is fucking great and deserves attention. one of the rare bands that is actually original

My first comment is in reference to Akhlys!
Necrotic Nick- Definitely a killer listen. I haven't heard of that band but using "ritualistic" as a descriptor has me interested already.
a really good sound ! what a surprise :)
Necrotic Nick- One of the most evil sounding album we've reviewed I'd say.
Sorry heads of the dead it's a badass album
Album of the last to decades , had the same feeling as Emperor Athems of the
Necrotic Nick- It does have an Emperor like feel to it. I thoroughly enjoyed this album though. It's legit haunting as hell.
smeagul asking for change in a subway tunnel hahahaha
(Akhlys) is blacker than all ever
I played the drinking game but with some beer I'm safe hahaha

Another great album late in the year. My wallet continues to suffer thru 2020.
Necrotic Nick- I hear ya there. These guys are going to get my money here soon as well. lol
It seems to be sold out most places. I scored a copy from 20 Buck Spin.
review the new album by Head of the dead
Necrotic Nick- If I manage to find a copy I'll through it in a collection update for sure.
I'm in love with it. Been jamming the vinyl constantly. It's disgusting! Heavy as all hell.

Necrotic Nick- Agreed. I was legit creeped out by some of the more atmospheric moments whish is I'm sure what they were going for. lol
