She gave a run for her money on clay. Henin is no match for Serena at her best on the other surfaces. She'd never be able to outhit Serena. She doesn't have the range

Imo, the best female player in history. I think she stopped too soon. But she wanted to stop at a high.
I miss her on the court.
The first time I saw her play, I said: her technique is almost flawless. Her backhand was that of a male player, instead of the studied two-handed backhand that was used back then. A real one-handed top spin backhand with power and accuracy, looking perfectly natural.
I also liked that she never pretended. She didn't come to make a show, or to be in the magazines. She came to play and win.

Henin had the best backhand ever! And, she is the only opponent that kind of scared Serena. Listening to her speak, I realize how intelligent and articulate that she is. Compare her to Chrissie Evert (my favorite player ever), Whoopi Goldberg, and Sunny Hostin who say "you know" every two seconds, it is easy to see which one presents herself as the most intelligent. Production of this video is beyond raw, anyway she was really professional and patient though her body language showed clear signs of discomfort and impatience...
plus she did it in a foreign language, I can’t imagine a US player doing interview in another language except of course the Black Mamba RIP... Note: she combines better with clearer colors like her past white, pink, pale blue, etc. Adidas sportswear.
Anyway if you admire such a tiny women who proved to all like Hingis or Evert Lloyd that every one is able to transcend her/his condition with the appropriate passion, effort, resilience and intuition... well you will love discovering the story of her journey.
Plus she is an example of self awareness journey, self compassion and self love recovery... she never mentioned it but it’s clear she went through psychotherapy and mindset coaching to evolve during her career and mostly after retirement... and that may be her biggest victory and example for us, at least it is for me.

So, in that case, Jimmy White wasn't even close to being the best snooker player of his time, but Nigel Bond is.
That would be consistent with your argument.
      Also, opinions aren't facts.

    • @regulusarcturus
      @regulusarcturus 3 года назад

      @@colaboytje 1. I don’t follow snooker, so I can’t really comment on that.
      2. I never said opinions are facts.
That aside, it’s very difficult to make the argument that Henin is somehow the most skilled or technically perfect player that has played women’s tennis, when players like Serena, Graf and Navratilova exist who dominated across all surfaces and different eras and in the case of Navratilova and Serena across different disciplines as well (doubles).
As talented as Henin was, she had glaring holes in her game that could best be exposed on grass. Henin was not in the top 3 players on hard courts in her era (Serena, Hingis and Clijsters were) and Henin was in the second tier of players on hard courts (along with Davenport, Venus and Sharapova). On grass, she wasn’t even in the top 5, lagging considerably behind Serena, Venus, Sharapova, Davenport, Hingis and even Mauresmo.
You can’t be the most technically flawless player if you aren’t the best on 2/3 surfaces. Moreover, although some people will argue that this was because there were more powerful players, let me remind you that power in tennis is generated mostly through technique and not muscle mass or height. Nadal, who is very muscular, hits a lot softer than Djokovic who is skinny and they are roughly the same height.

Grand Slam champions are easily forgotten. No rivalries, no great matches. Maybe some players have retired too soon, or couldn't play for whatever reason (barty, osaka..). I have had my gripes about Justine. HOWEVER, I repsect how hard she worked. I respect the skills she developed, constantly. And, when I saw her at The Miami Open, on Key Biscayne, she was thrilling! In person, on the court, she was THRILLING! A true marvel. And I respect that.

Justine. Thank you. Justine seems so poised in this interview, just as poised as she was on the court. The fact she loved Graf, is so telling, because I can see why she was so good. They both possessed great footwork. Miss watching her play tennis. She was a joy to watch. I remember her beating both William sisters back to back in the same tournament in their prime. Not many tennis players can claim that. For her size Justine played like a giant.

[For a future movie about Justine's mental problevs] ))
Interview synopsis in a nutshell... [suspicious of every public compliment given to her, including "Female Federer" as if it was a publicity stunt from Navratilova or other former #1s]
Non-verbal non-public Justine [that tells truth and doesn't want just to please]: I snapped in 2008 by retiring as #1. It was a mistake that hurt one-handed backhands' reputation in the women's game. Forgive me, [tennis] people! Please!
Justine speaking: Everything's perfectly fine with me. I did everything I could by winning even more GSs titles than I could dream about considering my background.
    No offense. Just contributing truth.

Come on. 1 point that was questionable. Have you seen Serena and all the others cheat? Or are you selectively blind?
That point didn't win her the match. She was just better.

Better than the backhand was the "one hand" she used against Serena in 2003. Now I understand why she has Graf as an idol, it combines with her love of cheating.
