This has encouraged me! I am 52 starting Bachelor of Midwifery in a few weeks for the next 3 years full time. I am extremely nervous & feel like I am going back to primary school!
Hey Greg, I am applying to study music production as a mature student in East London this September... I am 48 years old and could do with all the advice you can give... Thanks in advance if you can help....
I'm 51 and back in college to get my degree and certification as a respiratory therapist. Age is only a number. I'm friends with people in school less than half my age. Life is what you make it!
I began my bachelor in 2022 at the age of 37🎉as my child is older now. I like you just decided to take the plunge and am so happy I did! It truly brings meaning to my life! My highest class mark was a 96 last term and I never thought I'd be one to achieve the grades I do and I do believe its because of my life experiences prior to heading back. I love watching mature student vlogs because 😂I can relate so much especially being in classes with students my daughters teen age haha. I recommend empty nesters to head back to school it is so rewarding! ❤Much love.
I’ve just turned 37 and enrolling to go back to university. I didn’t finish university due to life circumstances back almost 20 years ago but I had always planned to eventually get back. Now I’m ready to take the plunge and go for it.
I am 47 and just about to decide whether to do it or not!!! I never went to Uni and it is one of my life's biggest regrets. Now my child is 12 and I have spare time so seriously considering starting this 4 year degree
@@comienmoffat2551well I did it after a few curve balls in my life. I have started a diploma in community services which has students from University as it’s an integrated course between college and university with students studying a bachelors of social work and students studying just the diploma. I’d say age is no barrier and just to go for it. My class so far has 3 girls who are 17 then 4 who are my age 37 and then 3 over the ages of 45. Great mix of people. There’s lots of support to help you.
Well done! Very inspiring especially as you had young children… very brave! I’m 48 and starting a BA (Hons) in Theology in London (at a Durham University college) this Sept. It took 4 years to pluck up the courage. I’m extremely excited and daunted in equal measure. My children are 21, 19 & 17… I gave my ALL into raising them and being the best mum possible and now I feel it’s my time to do this. I must be honest in saying I’m really really nervous… not in how it will be at uni but more about my own ability, self discipline, etc.
Thanks for this video. I'm 35 years old with a 7-year-old. I just got accepted to business school in Paris to do a 12-month MBA. I go through bouts of excitement and fear. But I know I will make it!
I feel better learning from this experience. I am a mature student at 35 years old I am on the Btec level 2 course when I started I could barely read and write so an access course would have been beyond me. I am the oldest
I'm 51 and am thinking of going to uni next year. The comments below are so encouragingKudos to all of those over 30 with kids, I have 8 and I am a Lone Parent! I want to go to Oxford, it's going to be difficult but I am not going to back off
Wow, you're super! I admire your bravery and determination - and also your spirit to do it with fun and flare. Good for you, and congratulations on your achievement.
I can totally relate to you because I did not go to university until I was 28 years old back in September 2010 and I went to University for 4 and a half years till February 2015 at the age of 32 when I got my 2 business degrees(Foundation Degree Business Management and BA (Hons) Business Studies Degree). I graduated from university with zero debt because I paid for my 2 degrees upfront (£5140) and I studied part-time during the evenings whilst I worked full time during the day.
The only thing I learned as a mature age student (in my 40s) was that the same situation existed in universities as elsewhere.....old mates helping each other!
I’m going to uni 2021 once I’ve completed my level 5 HND, seems far away but it’s not really. I’ll be 31, I’m nervous now but nowhere near applying yet lol x
Same age as I’ll be when I start in 2021!! I have what I need for the access course but I just want better gcse results as I’m doing midwifery and some unis require 2b’s whereas I got Cs. So, gcse resits for me then access, then uni xx
My mum was a mature student. She started in her late 30s and I was a young teenager. I think the best you can do for her is support her. If you live with her, try to take on as many household duties to give her more time. Be patient and understanding. This is something I really wish I had done. Instead, I gave her a really hard time for not having more time for me. I just didn't understand but it must have made it harder for her. Good luck to your mum x
This was very helpful :) I've just got an interview to study midwifery at university and if I get accepted I will be 29 with four children when I start. I've been doing open university for four years but brick uni is a lot different!
Where there is a will, there is a way! You will do great as long as you stay focused and have a good support system. I also went back to university when I was 33 and had 4 kids. I'm now in the second year of my undergrad. physics degree and do not regret the decision going back to school. It is difficult at times, but you just stay focused. Try to learn/understand what motivates you so you can go back to it in hard times to bring you back on track. It is definitely an interesting time in my life and i wish you would enjoy your uni journey too. Good luck! :)
I'm in my 30s and I wish I was having this sort of experience (I'm miserable). I'm glad you were so happy though, that's always great to see others in a similar position succeeding.
I'm in a Bachelor of Fine Arts program (I'm in the US... I do wonder if degree structures are different in the UK?). It's studio art. I'm currently a working artist, but I want to get through my degree so I can teach college in the future. There are people of varied ages, but those who are older, and we're definitely in the minority, tend to keep more to themselves in my experience so far. Community college was definitely a better experience for me vs. a four year university.
I worked as a mechanic for years got fade up and went to Uni at 40 got an Automotive engineering degree but no one wants to hire a middle aged man with no experience in such higher skills, agism is alive and well.
Erm, i have too admit, my university experience was ALOT difference from this as a mature student. I kinda want to make my own video on this because in my experience of university...this is not accurate.... im now doing a Masters degree at 38 years old. Its the best experience ever, but the 'kids' view you as old, bit clicky, but as a mature student, the life experiences we have are actually very beneficial to our studies. I was in receipt of child care grants and they did cover at least 70% of it, the maintenance loan and grants cover the rest tbh. I suppose everyones situation is unique on that point. In my uni, you get 100 a year in book tokens to spend on books in the bookshop, whilst i spent these, i never used those books. I found them overly complicated to understand and a lecturer once told me..... if a book doesnt speak to you and you dont like how its worded, dont use it. Much like a novel you may want to read. I got a 2.1 in psychology. I am now doing a masters degree with two children and a part time job... its hard, but its soooooo possible. And dont worry, everyone goes through a point of wanting too give up....just makes the graduation even better. You did it 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Nothing worth it ever came easy, remember that guys and enjoy the experience. I wasnt their to make friends and get in clicks with younger people, i was there to study. Sometimes i did feel abit lonely, but the lecturers are also our age and they are amazing. Feel free to msg or ask me questions if you fall on this video aswell, im not sure how id feel if i saw this before going to uni, no offence to the original poster. Xx
We all have different experiences, and it's good to share them. I am so grateful for the friendships I made at university even as a mature student. It was hard work, but I gained a 2:1 in philosophy, politics and economics which was worth it for me. Things like childcare grants change a lot. I started in 2011, and there wasn't much help available then sadly.

I don't have any experience of this as I started my own company when I graduated, but I would imagine you would be treated the same as a usual graduate.
In all honesty, it was incredibly difficult and I got in a lot of debt. I know that funding has changed a lot since I was at university (I started in 2011), but I would recommend being as informed as you can be before making any decision.
It’s so hard, It’s what I want to do more than anything but running a house on £700 a month is just impossible ! I’m thinking I’ll have to go down the part time route which is 7 years, it’s just a shame they make it near impossible for adults to educate themselves xxx
@@charlotteroberts5158 it really is so hard and I totally understand. Another thing to remember is you can get a discount on council tax if one person is a student. Also some colleges offer bursaries, so it's worth looking into. I started part time and ended up full time as it was so much more convenient. It was hard, but I don't regret it.

@@charlotteroberts5158 it really is so hard and I totally understand. Another thing to remember is you can get a discount on council tax if one person is a student. Also some colleges offer bursaries, so it's worth looking into. I started part time and ended up full time as it was so much more convenient. It was hard, but I don't regret it.
which university did you graduated from?
Lancaster, in the UK.

You would have to look this up. I cannot imagine there are any colleges or universities that do not accept mature international students.
