It will only affect people with clubbed speeds over 100 mph. So yes, you might hit your 6 iron into a par 4 from 170 yards instead of 7 iron in from 170 yards. But most golfers will not be able to tell the difference. The guys hitting the ball over 300 yards will be hurt the most, and this is fantastic as right now the ball favors higher swing speeds on an exponential level -- not linear

there are two ways to roll the ball back, make it lower quality like a range ball, or modify the dimples. So changing the dimples will affect only the high speed hits. if the R&A changes the parameters for the Iron Byron to approve a ball, the designs of the dimple could be adjusted by the industry to fit for approval. The aerodynamic drag is increasing by the square of the speed. So any player with a slower speed would have less airodynamic drag and not even realise that he is using a roll back ball. People playing Badminton will understand, no matter how hard you hit the shuttle, it is hardly going faster once it reached a certain speed. so don't worry if your swing speed is below 120mph.
It won't effect you unless you play a high performance/expensive ball. The new rule will affect the ProV1 etc, but not balls like the Srixon soft feel, or the Slazenger V300. The cheaper and softer (low compression) balls are already flying shorter than more expensive ones.
As an 80 year old golfer, this will make my game twice as hard now as I have already lost 50 + yds with my driver. I do well to hit a PW 95 yds now. This will probably cause we short hitters to rethink if golf is really for us any more. In the long run this will really hurt courses when people start finding another sport to fill their free time. So yes I'm definitely for bifurcation not the roll back for us duffers.

Agreed just have to build golf courses at least an extra 1500 yards longer to allow the game to be played as desired. 40 years ago a par 3 240 yards long was just about reachable therefore for pros a par 3 should be increased to 330 yards. Long par 4 475 yards needed a wood for the 2nd shot. Therefore increase par 4s to 600 yards Can you see the problem? Some of the pga courses are obsolete or look like pitch and putt. And it is dull driver wedge into 470 yard holes is wrong.
I have stated from day 1, that they should NEVER PUNISH EVERYONE, for the gains made by a small minority of pro golfers. Those gains made by the likes of Rory, have come from the gym sessions, eating well, dedication to improve, to gain an advantage over the field. SPEED, has been their tool of advancing the ball increasing distances. NOT THE BALL, NOT THE GOLF CLUB, as they have always been manufactured to certain manufacturing constraints, set by the R&A plus USGA. The whole industry will likely sue both governing bodies, as the cost of this roll back could be very expensive for each member of the golf ball industry. Bet they haven't thought about that, the simple but in your face fact that the GOVERNING BODIES set the limits a long time ago and everything involved in the manufacture of each ball, has been dictated by those restrictions. When a governing body hits everyone, they have failed, IMHO. Sort out those players, with the physical abilities to destroy championship courses, courses the majority of golfers will never play, but they can't can they, without it becoming personal. Removing EG:-20 players physical advantages, is too hard, so much easier to hit every golfer around the World. This could become the biggest, most costly home goal for both governing bodies, the industry will not take this lying down.
Just make the tour players find their own golf balls (within 3 minutes). Its easy to smash a drive into next year when you know there is an army of people looking for your wayward drives. Might make them think twice about getting the driver out of the bag.
I think they should make a PGA tour ball and everyone playing on the tour uses the same tour ball. They can design that ball to perform how they want. It would only effect those players and there all on and even playing field in regards to the ball.
That's what was sort of going to happen, but 'everyone' moaned that is would cause a split in equipment between pro's and the rest and that somehow this was bad. So they have said, 'fine. it will apply to everyone'
As I have said before get a set of 1976 Wilson staff woods and irons and compare them with modern clubs in your facilities and see the difference….you don’t need to change the ball. Max driver length of 44”. It’s simple and will bring to the fore the best golf ball strikers again.
Another thought.. How many golf ball resellers (lake balls) will be put out of business if this comes in for all?? Millions of perfectly good balls being tipped in landfill😳😳 Well done R&A 👏🏻👏🏻
how about let the fairways grow half an inch more. Tour fairways can be narrowed and let to grow a little longer. average course doesn't get 30 yards of roll
I am 78 yrs old and it takes all I have to get to the par 4's in 2 (senior tees). Playing with the ball they are proposing would just about ruin the game for me. I play the game for fun and this could take the fun out of it. I better stock up while I can.
Well that’s just great. You said it best. “Golf is hard enough as it is.” Also what do the manufacturers going to do about this with billions of balls out there that will not conform. Than have to redesign all their product lines. Besides now having to buy all new balls! F that. P.S. Tiger and Rory are for it. Big whoop. They both drive the ball well over 325 yds average. Real tough if they lose 20 yards!
I hit the ball 225….i already hit hybrids into par 4s. This sucks!!! I play off the standard men’s tee box and would like to continue as that’s where my playing partners hit from.
I'm not going to use them nor play or watch any tournaments that use them. Luckily the leagues I play in have already agreed to ignore this rule if it goes through. It's time to set up another governing body hopefully LIV will set something up and start a new LIV pro-feeder and amateur league of some sort. #BoycottTheBall
I am in the minority (age and arthritis) who can only hit a driver about 170 yards total. If I an penalised further on distance then there are many holes when I will not be able to reach the fairway or clear a hazard. It will drastically limit the number of courses that I am able to play.
I can understand if the winning scores at the PGA Level are 72 under, but just this weekend the winning score was 20 under, so that means you beat Par on 5 holes if you play all others even per 18, but this weekend there were bogies galore, and all struggled with a few holes...
Ya this is extremely disappointing. I’ve thought about this hard lately and I might actually quit my golf pursuit because of this. And as a fan of tournaments and equipment. I finally get to 300. Now I’ll be at 285 . 7 iron 150. I’m not putting up with that just my personal opinion or I should say….. my inspiration is vanishing as we speak.
300 yards is quite far already. But it does not match your iron distance. At least your 7 iron should be 170 yards carry minimum. My driver only 240-250 yards carry but my 7 iron is around 165 yards carry.
Always enjoy your content. I'm in SA, and also part of the Course rating team...my view at the end of the day is, golfers still have to swing the club and hit the ball. That's why it's an individual sport. Those with more power and skill will be in the better half of the table, and that's ok. Leave the game as it is...
and this will change none of that but keep more courses relevant for pro golf. Don't see the downside. On a separate note, do you think that course slope ratings will change as a result of average distances dropping 15%?
Not much can do besides change the ball ,change clubs (ppl have all the equipment can’t spend more for crap clubs ) , put tee boxes back (most don’t have extra space ) or make the greens small . Me , don’t change anything, handicap 12 😢
Making GIR will get even harder for most women amateurs and older seniors, who really struggle with generating enough clubhead speed to get far enough up the fairway ...
LIV has been against the ball roll back from the beginning. The problem isn't the ball, but the equipment. If you don't address that rolling the ball back is going to amount to not much more than a very short-term fix. The equipment makers wil figure out ways to return distances for the pros and elite amateur golfers to where they are now, so what is the sport really ganing by pissing mid to high handicappers off screwing them out of distance? They're the people whose backs the sport is built on and you going to drive a helthy percentage of them out of the sport by penalizing them on how far they're able to hit the ball.
@@Chris54321if it penalizes pros 10-15 yards will penalize a slower swing speed more - 200 yard drive will no be lucky to go 170 - to me no biggie a couple weeks ago I hit my 5 wood 310 so game on - will be sad to see players that don’t even make fairways because of loss of distance
It will only effect high performance/price balls. The budget or mid priced balls of today, will already comply with the new standard, as they already fly less distance relatively to their more expensive and higher performance brothers. As a for instance, the very popular Srixon Soft Feel already falls short of the new standard.
It is very easy to formulate a compound for golf balls that will accept a maximum energy before distortion. What this means that if you hit the ball with a force greater than a predetermined level, the ball's shape will distort excessively, thereby creating a non-ballistic shape which will limit its distance.
Make all designated spectator areas OB. No change required to courses, does not impact the average golfer. When we hit these areas it is often a lost ball shot and distance. For pros they have 100s of spectator ball shooters and trampled down rough. It will rebalance the game in terms of distance vs accuracy.
I suspect they are trying to minimise the cost of the role back. By focus on the balls. I do like the suggestion of creating a tour version of the driver. Golf is already a tough enough game for club golfer, it seems like this is an issue for the tour pros.
Golf, like any sport, is a matter of fair competition. Whether I hit 175 yards with a 7 iron or 135 yards doesn't matter as long as my competitor hits the same 135 yards with the same swing and iron. Last year's ranking does not change compared to next year's ranking. Of course, to gain an advantage, players will learn new skills. The long ball will be less important. Precision is rewarded more than distance, which is an advantage for everyone in the medium term. And restores many things from the past. We just came from real wood and real iron in the last 50 years, with significantly higher demands on the skills of the individual players. Another effect is that shorter golf ball distances make smaller golf courses more attractive. And that, together with the new handicap system, is leading to more golfers worldwide.
Is this being implemented in LIV golf ?...also in a general fun round with mates can you play with any ball but in a club comp how on earth are they going to know what youre hitting...🙈
the best solution would be to introduce a scratch or better tournament golf ball that amateurs and pros would both use once their handicap was at scratch or better, meaning no bifurcation and the vast majority of amateurs would be unaffected
This is still bifurication, as its two balls for two seperate idenities. This is pretty much what the local tournament rule was/is trying to do one ball for the elite one for the masses. When the simple fact is, golf is in a great place now, and the governing bodies are just completely out of touch with what one of the biggest increases of distance is. And thats sports science and how to get the most out of your body to maximise swingspeed and ball speed with the right diet and training.
They play wide open courses most weeks on the PGA tour grow the rough and make the fairways smaller. I've been playing for over thirty years and I dont hit the ball that far so the last thing I want is to hit it even shorter 😡
At the pro level distance is a problem. When I was younger even in the pros that total distance of a course was never over 7,000 yards. Now some are getting to close to 7,500 at what point do you do something when it gets to 8,000 9
Full send the rollback. We can just play shorter tees. Golf is fun no matter how far I hit it. One of the beautiful things about golf is that we are all playing with the same equipment on the same types of golf courses.
The rollback should be for the Pro's only. Do like what they do for Professional Baseball with Wooden bats. I think its gonna blow up in there face-- there doing it because of a very small percent of golfers that are the problem (Professional golfers) with a solutiom that affects everyone
Looks like everyone will Have to move up a set of tees to get to enjoy the game as before. Hope courses are ready to invest in a new set of forward tees for the senior golfers. There's only 100 mi Lion of them at the club level
So, essentially, the golf ball specification for 99.997% of the entire worldwide golfing community is being rolled back because the elite 0.003% hit the ball too far? Because of the exigencies of the professional game need changing? The absurdity of it all! The question, to me, is how do they plan to do it? They could increase the ball diameter to, say, 1.74 inches or decrease the weight from 1.68 ounces to, say, 1.55 ounces and that would probably work, but only for the short term. We've all seen the vast improvements in ball performance from the wound Titleist times to now, the multi-layer, multi-material balls we have now. So, once this is done, how long would it take the hotshot engineers at the ball manufacturers to change the cover dimpling pattern or change the core materials so that, in 2 years or so, the "new" spec ball will go as far if not farther than "old ball" current offerings? Then, these twits at the R&A will be back to square 1 and may have to fiddle and diddle with the specs again. Where will it all end? How about if we simply make professionals play gutta percha balls while we, the great unwashed of the golfing world, play whatever we d@mned well please? SMH...
there are two ways to roll the ball back, make it lower quality like a range ball, or modify the dimples. So changing the dimples will affect only the high speed hits. if the R&A changes the parameters for the Iron Byron to approve a ball, the designs of the dimples could be adjusted by the industry to fit for approval. People playing Badminton will understand, no matter how hard you hit the shuttle, it is hardly going faster once it reached a certain speed. so don't worry if your swing speed is below 120mph.
Looking at the (albeit limited) data the USGA & R&A have put out about the rollback; if we're really talking a 15 yard loss for someone swinging a club 125mph then the average golfer swinging 90mph-ish won't loose out by much (5-7 yards with driver). If this is how it it works, and given the change in criteria for testing, then the importance of a more optimised driver (i.e. launch and spin) will be higher. My biggest concern is that all of the supposed losses and criteria are largely theoretical at this point. I'm of the understanding that Srixon made a prototype ball that conformed with the new regulations and Keegan Bradley, upon testing, found it to be 40-50 yards shorter with driver, and about two clubs different with his irons. That's a BIG difference in performance for ANY golfer. Given the roll-back will not come in to effect until Jan 2028 I'm skeptical that the current plan will not undergo changes between now and then - especially if the USGA & R&A have got their numbers wrong.
I am finding it harder to gain distance anyway esp in the Winter and this would be the final straw for me. Time to quit golf I think if this happens. Many older players like myself are struggling as well so this could result in many 'vets' leaving Clubs and some clubs rely on this income to survive. Plus what do I do with the 200 plus new and used golf balls I have aquired over the years?
the game is hard enough for the high handicap golfer dont make it harder and whats going to happen to all the golf balls the manufacturers have got in stock there must be millions of them make it harder for the pros and leave us club golfers out of it
It has more to do with the player than the equipment! My handicap went down when my swing speed went from 112 mph to 129. The gains made ALL COURSE SHORTER! This also hurts the short hitters the most. And juniors too. Worse of all it increase the chances of slow play! The player is stronger and faster than before! THAT IS THE MAIN DRIVING FACTOR! Also how would this affect long drive? But they do not care about that anyways!
I actually favour the rollback. What is happening now is that the longer hitters are so much closer to the green that I can't compete. Now skill will come far more into play and that will benefit me
Hilarious, you do realize you won't be at the same distance as the longer hitter. You believe the roll back will make you longer and them shorter, do ya. Their club head speed is still faster than yours. So you'll still be shorter with roll back.
I don’t think it’s a good idea. There is however an opportunity for courses to add forward Tee boxes (expensive I know) Courses that are now restricted would get some breathing room.
Maybe with the rollback in distance the manufacturers will focus on making straighter flying balls and the scores will stay the same or even go down? Idk food for thought. Cheers
So I can buy all those balls that are already produced for cheaper! I don’t play tournaments and the ones i would won’t worry about it so maybe I’ll buy Pro V1’s!
Question: Will the ball roll back truly impact everyone? I completely get that the ball that will be sold will eventually apply to the new rule. In that sense yes, it will impact all. That stated, is it not true that many/most golf ball tech requires a swing speed in excess of 100 mph to activate? If so, will the new conforming ball actually impact this that swing 100 mph or less?
Does anyone know what percentage it will be? I mean for it to affect the pros it’s going to have to be at least 15 to 20% which will make a lot of difference to amateurs.
I honestly do not care what they do with the equipment and ball. I grew up playing with real woods and balata golf balls. Do you remember how small the European ball was? If you love to play golf you will play with any equipment and enjoy being just outside. PS I could care what Rory and Tiger think!
If it is 15% a amateur golf hitting it 225 yards of the tee will be hitting it 192 yards, meaning on a 400 yard hole you’ll be hitting a three wood if you’re lucky makes a lot of difference to 175 yard approach shot. Rory McIlroy on a 400 yard hole with an average drive of 321 would change to 273, leaving him 144 yards in not a great deal of difference to somebody with so much skill
Golf should remain hard. What's the use of just hitting driver and short wedge and putter. A par four should take two strokes to the green even though a par five could be hit in two. More skill, more thrill. If anything the rule concerning divots on fairways should be changed.
The sustainability impact of disposing of all golf balls in existence today and manufacturing those billions of golf balls again is ridiculous. Not to mention the cost of it for golf club members. All lost golf balls are unusable if found
All this means is the pro tour golfer will see less eagles on average. Those who have an off the charts swing speed will figure it out while the rest have to sharpen their pitching game 20 yards out. To the average golfer it may feel like hitting a range ball. The governing body have just disenfranchised the younger golfers who came to the game for brute distance. This seems counter intuitive to grow the game. I am a senior at 90 mph swing speed so it won't matter to me. Bryson DeChambeau will be hitting an 8 iron 2nd shot into the par 5 instead of a 9. I think they may wish to revisit this issue in the future. The thing about governing bodies is once they put their toe in the water and cross the threshold, they may go for more reduction later. I agree with others that if any new construction then make the greens more undulating and narrow the fairways with muffier rough.
The professional golfers, with hundreds of millions of pounds should cast their minds back, and remember that it’s the little mans shoulders that they are standing on. W😮ho wants to play golf at 60 65 70 years of age, and hitting it a 100 yards or less. How many people are going to say enough is enough how many more shots are you going to give 54 handicappers all clubs are trying to recruit more golfers And as retired people make up a vast majority all that’s going to happen is peoples handicaps are going to go up but is that more fun the game is about fun not money if there is no pros in the world or no PGA or no liv.We would still be playing this game for fun
At 88 years of age, I have lost a lot of distance, and I was never a "long" hitter anyway. If I have to use a shorter distance ball, I may just as well give up the game. As far as I am concerned, it is the pros who need to be burdened with diminished distance. They are hitting the ball so far these days, that it is ruining the game and golf courses will have to be lengthened to over 8,000 yds.
Agreed.. I’ve hundreds of perfectly usable balls with dozens still brand new.. So at £3/£4 a pop I’ve now to change them?? Manufacturers will love that or as you say will the millionaires at the R&A pay for the extra costs?? R&A bringing “golf to all” my ar8e 😡😡
@@oahujuniorgolfassociationc6656 … No comfort whatsoever, it’s still a huge rip off for everyday amateurs when they claim they want “golf for all”😔😔 I certainly won’t be changing, they can go get stuffed😉🤣
I can see it now, an even more expensive Titleist Pro-V “special edition” with a rolled-back distance. LOL Maybe they can make elite golfers play balls that have been lying in the bottom of a lake for ~2 years.
Tours regulate the equipment and balls. Dial it way back, so we don’t have to spend more and more money building longer courses which cost more to maintain too. I don’t care if the tour pros are hitting driver, four iron on every par four. So what. They play for money. Let them. For everyone one else, tee up anything you want, and club, and driver. Anything. Just play golf and have fun.
You can not take a mulit million dollars golf course and just change it to become longer, so the obvious change is the equipment I have no problem with reducing the ball or the equipment to make the course play as designed.
For Amateurs it's going to be frustrating. Pros, that still hit 315 to 320yds, not going to make that much of a difference. At the end of the day. Golf is a skill on all shots and talent, at the end of the day golfer still have to read the greens, and swing the club.
If they want to roll back distance for pros why don't they limit loft on clubs for pros. Example make them use drivers with minimum 10.5 degree loft instead of mess with golf balls which will affect all levels of golf.
I won’t be hitting it shorter!! I’m good on balls! I have 1000’s!! The day the RNA or whoever want to start paying my greens fees then they can be telling me what golf ball I can use
We should be controlling the loft on the golf clubs not the golf ball. We should be using the same lofts as in the 1960s. So that I can compare my score with jack nicholas score over the same course. In other words, standard lofts on all clubs for everybody. Including the professionals.
This option is the least costly for us golfer, balls are going to cost more for us golfer regardless since we need have to pay for the new R&D , since pro don't pay for golf balls. The average Joe always pays the price...
*It’s going to affect you!!! What do you think now?!*

Good point
I think they should make a PGA tour ball and everyone playing on the tour uses the same tour ball. They can design that ball to perform how they want. It would only effect those players and there all on and even playing field in regards to the ball.
But...but...money
That's what was sort of going to happen, but 'everyone' moaned that is would cause a split in equipment between pro's and the rest and that somehow this was bad. So they have said, 'fine. it will apply to everyone'
Than what monopoly on a ball on tour? Makes no sense. It’s a free market.
@@bangskott661free markets dont exist
As I have said before get a set of 1976 Wilson staff woods and irons and compare them with modern clubs in your facilities and see the difference….you don’t need to change the ball. Max driver length of 44”. It’s simple and will bring to the fore the best golf ball strikers again.
We'll never be able to enforce it for the average golfers out there. Playing weekend golf so no one will give a shit
Another thought..
How many golf ball resellers (lake balls) will be put out of business if this comes in for all??
Millions of perfectly good balls being tipped in landfill😳😳
Well done R&A 👏🏻👏🏻
Tons of people will still play the now non-conforming ball. Especially if discounted greatly in price.
They won't go down in price. They will go up. Suppy and demand. Can you Imagine paying 80 bucks a dozen for pond Pro V1s.
how about let the fairways grow half an inch more. Tour fairways can be narrowed and let to grow a little longer.
average course doesn't get 30 yards of roll
Just as they did when dechambou massacred the course to the win the us open
I really don’t think you will notice much. If you wanna notice much you need to swing faster.
@@oahujuniorgolfassociationc6656 Swing faster 😂, if only it was that simple 🙄.
Typical reply from a smart arse kid. Wait til YOU hit the 60’s…
@brentondavy-sn6wt What are you rambling on about? Nobody has made a smart ass comment and do you mean wait till you play in your sixties?
Move forward
I'm not going to use them nor play or watch any tournaments that use them. Luckily the leagues I play in have already agreed to ignore this rule if it goes through. It's time to set up another governing body hopefully LIV will set something up and start a new LIV pro-feeder and amateur league of some sort. #BoycottTheBall
Yea it’s bunch of old heads mad they can’t hit fatmr and blaming on technology when it’s the player’s skills and his physical abilities
I completely understand… my dad is 75 and he absolutely won’t play anymore if he loses another 10 yards.
300 yards is quite far already. But it does not match your iron distance. At least your 7 iron should be 170 yards carry minimum. My driver only 240-250 yards carry but my 7 iron is around 165 yards carry.
This goes ahead then I feel we will lose a lot of golfers at club level. I’d guess 100% of handicaps will go UP and people will NOT be happy…
One manufacturer makes all the Tournament Balls. Simple. Regular club golfers can buy and play anything they want. Anything
Players are sponsored by ball companies
PLAYERS must have a voice on this rule. Players should boycott events in protest if rollback passed.
I use 76 Tour blades too. Best ever made.
Maybe you can start by not golfing at home.
I already don’t hit the ball very far. I can’t afford losing any yardage. I will probably have to go to Par 3 courses to play.
Not much can do besides change the ball ,change clubs (ppl have all the equipment can’t spend more for crap clubs ) , put tee boxes back (most don’t have extra space ) or make the greens small .
Me , don’t change anything, handicap 12 😢
As someone who can carry the ball 340 it’s extremely hard to control the ball… it will help me to have less rather than more but I hate it so much
Making GIR will get even harder for most women amateurs and older seniors, who really struggle with generating enough clubhead speed to get far enough up the fairway ...
I bet LIV golf will not use that damned soft ball! LONG LIV GOLF!
Change for the pros'. They are the ones hitting it too far. I don't enter competitions, and I shouldn't be penalized.
I feel sorry for the pensioners. My uncle hits it 200 yards when he absolutely crushes his drive. This is going to kill his game
10 yards/30 feet should not kill his game.
So I’ve bought 10 dozen pro v1’s (let’s say) if i can’t use them any more in my 17 handicap rounds, are they going to compensate me ?
Leave it alone!
How about the shaft manufacturing making shafts to pickup for 5% loss?
Good comment! I am pretty sure that in 2028, they will realize that the pros will still hit as long as before.
Make all designated spectator areas OB. No change required to courses, does not impact the average golfer. When we hit these areas it is often a lost ball shot and distance. For pros they have 100s of spectator ball shooters and trampled down rough. It will rebalance the game in terms of distance vs accuracy.
Very good idea!
Just put rough from 250-350 yards. Failing that my range will be losing a lot of balls at 10 quid for 100 lol
I wonder how many that will stock up on old golfballs so they can use it in local competitions and win nice prices. 😊
At the pro level distance is a problem. When I was younger even in the pros that total distance of a course was never over 7,000 yards. Now some are getting to close to 7,500 at what point do you do something when it gets to 8,000 9
As a snap topper "do I need to inspect everyone's balls when I'm playing" my local comps?
Full send the rollback. We can just play shorter tees. Golf is fun no matter how far I hit it. One of the beautiful things about golf is that we are all playing with the same equipment on the same types of golf courses.
The rollback should be for the Pro's only. Do like what they do for Professional Baseball with Wooden bats.
I think its gonna blow up in there face-- there doing it because of a very small percent of golfers that are the problem (Professional golfers) with a solutiom that affects everyone
One of the main reasons there are longer hitters now is they work out and are fitter! Just ban them from the gym and distances will tumble 😂🤔
Looks like everyone will
Have to move up a set of tees to get to enjoy the game as before. Hope courses are ready to invest in a new set of forward tees for the senior golfers. There's only 100 mi
Lion of them at the club level
what ball do amateurs use for distance Kevin.
because of roll back
So, essentially, the golf ball specification for 99.997% of the entire worldwide golfing community is being rolled back because the elite 0.003% hit the ball too far?
SMH...
Good, it will make players use all the clubs. I hit driver sand wedge on 90 percent of par 4s. Wippee how much fun is that?
Doesn't this change just favour long hitters? A long hitter will still be able to reach the green in 2, as a short hitter, i no longer will...
there are two ways to roll the ball back, make it lower quality like a range ball, or modify the dimples. So changing the dimples will affect only the high speed hits. if the R&A changes the parameters for the Iron Byron to approve a ball, the designs of the dimples could be adjusted by the industry to fit for approval.
Against any changes to current golf ball specs!
So if i find a pro v in the rough i cant use it 😢
Does this new rule mean that the current 'distance balls' will be 're-marketed' as slow swing speed or senior golf balls?
I am finding it harder to gain distance anyway esp in the Winter and this would be the final straw for me. Time to quit golf I think if this happens. Many older players like myself are struggling as well so this could result in many 'vets' leaving Clubs and some clubs rely on this income to survive. Plus what do I do with the 200 plus new and used golf balls I have aquired over the years?
the game is hard enough for the high handicap golfer dont make it harder and whats going to happen to all the golf balls the manufacturers have got in stock there must be millions of them make it harder for the pros and leave us club golfers out of it
What an easy way to get people to quit a sport that’s already an expensive struggle.
I’m glad we will still have sane ball will be better for most
It has more to do with the player than the equipment!
129. Hahaha
There is however an opportunity for courses to add forward Tee boxes (expensive I know)
Courses that are now restricted would get some breathing room.
Maybe with the rollback in distance the manufacturers will focus on making straighter flying balls and the scores will stay the same or even go down? Idk food for thought. Cheers
They are literally gonna make the ball
Spin more to take speed off bud. Which means it will absolutely not be straighter
Ahhhh makes sense
I'm already hitting 3h or more into 7 holes at our course.
So I can buy all those balls that are already produced for cheaper! I don’t play tournaments and the ones i would won’t worry about it so maybe I’ll buy Pro V1’s!
I don’t want to hit it shorter. This is crazy!
How is anyone going to know? In the monthly medal, how can my playing partners tell If I play a roll back Titliest or an old Titliest?
Question: Will the ball roll back truly impact everyone? I completely get that the ball that will be sold will eventually apply to the new rule. In that sense yes, it will impact all. That stated, is it not true that many/most golf ball tech requires a swing speed in excess of 100 mph to activate? If so, will the new conforming ball actually impact this that swing 100 mph or less?
I really don't see how clubs can police this local rule for amateur golfers.
Does anyone know what percentage it will be? I mean for it to affect the pros it’s going to have to be at least 15 to 20% which will make a lot of difference to amateurs.
PW is now the loft of an old 8 iron… and longer shafts… never gets mentioned by those that support the rollback
I honestly do not care what they do with the equipment and ball. I grew up playing with real woods and balata golf balls. Do you remember how small the European ball was? If you love to play golf you will play with any equipment and enjoy being just outside. PS I could care what Rory and Tiger think!
So the dozens of older balls I have are now top of the line?
All lost golf balls are unusable if found
Can the USGA live with a 50% drop in membership?
So are they going to re-grade (Course and slope ratings) all golf courses because they will be harder ?
They would have to…
I hope they are going to reimburse us for the money we have spent on golf balls we’ve already bought
You have until 2030!
@@oahujuniorgolfassociationc6656 … No comfort whatsoever, it’s still a huge rip off for everyday amateurs when they claim they want “golf for all”😔😔
I certainly won’t be changing, they can go get stuffed😉🤣
Limit this to the pros
I can see it now, an even more expensive Titleist Pro-V “special edition” with a rolled-back distance. LOL
Maybe they can make elite golfers play balls that have been lying in the bottom of a lake for ~2 years.
Alex, is this more your passion than making great instructional videos?
what about telling players, on the tee, 3 wood, and only using driver
for par 5s....just a thought.
Do what happens if manufacturers say, No we’re not doin that?
This is great for manufactures, so we all want to hit it further , so we stop this , roll it back and then restart the whole process again ??????
All the top players work out in the gym. They are super super fit. This is why they hit the ball so far
this like the 1970 when the ball from small to the big ball
I won’t be hitting it shorter!! I’m good on balls! I have 1000’s!! The day the RNA or whoever want to start paying my greens fees then they can be telling me what golf ball I can use
We should be controlling the loft on the golf clubs not the golf ball. We should be using the same lofts as in the 1960s. So that I can compare my score with jack nicholas score over the same course. In other words, standard lofts on all clubs for everybody.
Including the professionals.
