Another lovely homemade Ploughman's. Beautiful. The only thing I would add would be a boiled egg of some description; either scotch egg or pickled. Sometimes I combine the pork pie and egg by buying a nice thick slice of gala pie.
Love ❤ the look of the bread Greeno could you have Salmon Pate! Love the Honey Ham...love Pork pies have them here in Oz too plus Scotch Eggs ...love the green pickle relish too yummy 😋
Hi Tim, thanks for checking out the video. The bread is very much a personal choice certainly. I’m equally happy with white bread, as long as it’s proper bakers bread, from a nice crusty loaf. Winds me up when you order a ploughman’s and you get given one of those part baked baguettes warmed up that’s for sure!
Thanks buddy, certainly whetted my appetite, I demolished it! I know a lot of people think of a ploughmans as a bit boring, just some bread, cheese and a bit of salad. But done properly it's an absolute dream... as for what's next, could be pies, could be burgers, or maybe a trip into Weymouth on the weekend for some seaside fare 😀
Looks tasty. I am unfortunately lactose free, but there are some decent(ish) lactose-free cheeses out there; so it's not all bad! That bread looked sooo good, and loved the idea of a pate with this (I'd agree a course pate would have been even better!). I would perhaps go for a more vinegary coleslaw rather than the creamy one you chose. Great episode though!
I tried a couple of vegan cheeses not so long ago, there was one with chilli which actually was pretty good on a burger. Reason I went with a creamy coleslaw was I already had pickled shallot and Branston on there, so though it added a slightly different dimension. Loads of individual food combinations I enjoyed there, pate and tomato, pork pie and pickle, cheese and coleslaw... every bite was a flavour bomb! The bread was indeed amazing. Thanks for taking the time to check the video, and for the positive feedback 😀
You should do a déjeuner de laboureur. You can include the same elements, but with a French twist (baguette, Camembert, cidre). The pate would then be a viable addition. I love pate, but I'm not convinced it belongs on a British Ploughman's Lunch. Up the Brexit 🥴
Ha ha, nothing like a Ploughman's lunch to bring out the UKIP nutter in all of us!! Perhaps I should substitute the pate for brawn or ox tongue, or perhaps tinned corned beef 😂
British cheddar indeed… Dig into the proper stuff. Give it a back story. You don’t live a million miles from Cheddar. Coastal from Ford Farm is your local go to, then there’s Barbers, Wookey, etc. Get some high end product mentioned. Pork pie is grey. Also those little ones are called squealers. Branston is factory junk. Try Tracklements from Wiltshire. Think even Waitrose sell it. Pickling liquor determines the sweetness, not onion vs shallot. I probably have already said enough… 😂 Production is good though! 👍
You have a fair point, there are higher end products available than some of the ones used in this video... Maybe I will revisit some of them at a later date! Appreciate the feedback 😉
It's a bit of a stretch to call a Ploughman's Lunch VERY traditional since it was only invented by the British cheese industry just after the WW2 to increase cheese sales. Nonetheless, it is an excellent lunch and, of course, you can make all kinds of adjustments to suit your taste or even dietary needs.
While it is certainly true that the cheese industry had a big push in the 50s to popularise the ploughman’s lunch, it’s also the case that a plate of cheese, bread and onion was a popular alehouse meal stretching back over many centuries, especially so down south where I live. Of course, it’s a lot more jazzed up these days. It’s a fab meal, especially on a summers day I think, and you’re right, it’s good that you can exercise some flexibility around the ingredients to suit peoples wants and needs. Thanks for watching 😀
@@GreenoEats Bread, cheese and onion and frequently beer (probably "small" beer) is the original "packed lunch" and has indeed been around for centuries but the name Ploughman's Lunch is modern, as is the addition of salad. I have to say, I really enjoyed eating this! What would you add or remove to make it perfect for you?
Sadly though it wasn't a sunny day here when I filmed it, very much a grey and drizzly early evening... that's the UK for you though right!!

The butchers in my home town makes the best gala pies, my Mum would buy a whole one at Christmas, it weighed about 3kg 🤣
I'm reporting both of you for cruelty to expats. I guess gala pie is continuous egg pie? which we can't get in France😪
@@MikePaton-Williams-yv9qo yep, there's a chicken out there with serious PTSD after laying the eggs for gala pies!
ITS NOT THE BEST , NO,NO,
THIS IS THE ULTIMATE PLOUGHMANS LUNCH,
BUT FOR ME ITS GOT TO BE A NICE COLD PINT OF GUINNESS 😉👍
Awesome video sir,
Ooh, I could sink a nice pint of Guinness now, love the stuff!
Can't beat it,
You thought about beer, ale, cider reviews 🤔 ??

Answer: Crusty bread, ham, different cheeses, salad pickled onions and chutney/ branston pickle 😋 Wash it down with an ice cold lager 👍
I was with you right up to the lager bit 🤣 Got to be a foaming pint of ale, or a cold cider if it's a really hot day 🙂
Looks a great ploughman's lunch....not sure about that very coarse brown bread but I take your word for it.

Greeno - when is that bacon roll video coming. I'm all in on that one!
It's on the list... next one is gonna be best pie filling... I mean, who doesn't want to eat 3 pies (in the interest of science or whatever of course)
Keep these coming mate, literally whets my appetite. Best Ploughmans I ever had was in the Lake District, and yes in a random pub. Whats up next?

Oh yes mate, got a big list of stuff to do from Greeno Towers, but also plans to get out and about seeing what Dorset (and beyond) has to offer!
Cheers!
Thanks Niels!
