    Is that first shot a double hit or push shot?

    • @DrDaveBilliards
      @DrDaveBilliards  4 года назад +14

      When hit well, it is a good hit (no double hit or push). In the slow motion replay, it looks like the ferrule might have hit the CB (because I didn't hit the CB quite high enough). If so, this shot was technically a double hit. However, since the double hit is not visually obvious, the shot would not be called a foul. For more info, see:
      billiards.colostate.edu/faq/foul/double-hit/
      Also, under the official rules of pool, you are allowed to hit into a frozen CB per the info here:
      billiards.colostate.edu/faq/foul/frozen/
      And the shot was not a "push" (prolonged contact) based on the "pool" use of the term, per the info here:
      billiards.colostate.edu/faq/foul/push/

      @@DrDaveBilliards well that's some BS, it was fairly obvious even without the slow mo, so if i played against you, i would ddfinetly call it foul.. you and your double standarts.... when you made the exams (your exams) there were more than 5 shots where you said "pfu, that was close... but it's in", i speak about shots that should have been with the CB in certain place on the table, let's say in the square of the first diamonds in one of the corner pockets, and you never showed us better look, the camera was high and with bad angle so we had to trust you, ok, i can trust you, to a certain point, when you had 5 or 6 close calls, but you judged all of the as points, i wanted proofs, that's how you got your high score of 90, or 95 idk out of 100, so you want to tell you are better than van boenig, who got 84 or something like that on the first exam.. but you and your doble standarts, all of your close calls were "in", when it was clear, that you missed some of them and other were controversial.... now the same double standarts, i did a foul, but it wouldn't be called a foul, because i hit it too fast, BS, Dhead, it is a foul, just like probably half of your close calls on the exam were OUT of target

    • @DrDaveBilliards
      @DrDaveBilliards  4 года назад +1

      It doesn’t “come up often,” but it does come up on occasion. There are also other times where going off a pocket point (side or corner) might be the only good option. There are no secrets to this type of shot. You just need to hit the right amount of the point. If it is not working for you, keep adjusting the your aim left or right in small amounts so you can see how it changes the CB direction. If you hit the point too far to the right, the CB goes too much to the right. And if you hit the point too far left, the CB will go too much to the left. Eventually, you will find the middle.

    100% push shot. when the tip, cue ball, and object ball are all touching and struck simultaneously it's a push/foul!

      That is not true under the WPA World Standardized Rules (the "official rules of pool"). For more info, see:

    5:16 is a foul.... your slo-mo shows you double hitting the cue ball...good video otherwise... been doing most of those for years.... won lots of beers in the bars with them

    • @DrDaveBilliards
      @DrDaveBilliards  4 года назад +1

      I think you are incorrect. Watch it again. The tip hits the CB and the shaft rises above as the CB compresses the cushion. Then the rebounding CB hits the 8, transferring all of its forward speed to the 8.

      This shot is a foul and it should not be used; but some people don't know any better, so it is important for them to be aware of this sort of thing. Regardless, it was in the movie so I included it.

      Agreed. These shots are not new to anybody ... they have been around a really long time (even before Efren's time).

    First shot was a foul as your tip had more than momentary contact as seen in the replay. Your masse should not have had a cloth under the cue ball, because *you* should be able to make that stroke without hitting the table. Oh and masse shot practice will ALWAYS lead to rub marks (I do not call them burns). And your ball taps are WAY too hard and a ball tap should only be a single impact. Multiple impacts impinge and leave a permanent pit in the cloth. So you should always try a single, soft impact and then *see* if that was good enough, and ONLY add force or additional impacts when needed. That way, those impingements are kept to a minimum. I guess you were unable to perform the shot I laid out. Shot 6 also has a multiple impact cue drag foul that ball rotation can be seen to be stopped by the tip.

    • @DrDaveBilliards
      @DrDaveBilliards  4 года назад +1

      The first shot would not be called a foul by any experience and knowledgeable referee, even with the slow-motion replay. There is no conclusive evidence of a push or multiple hit.

    • @DrDaveBilliards
      @DrDaveBilliards  4 года назад +1

      Concerning the vertical masse shot, it is normal to drive the tip into the table. You can call the "burn marks" rub marks if you want, but that is not what most people call them.

    • @DrDaveBilliards
      @DrDaveBilliards  4 года назад +1

      Shot 6 was definitely a clean and legal hit. The tip hit the CB, the CB compressed the cushion, and then the CB hit the 8, making it lose its forward speed. Watch it again carefully.

    • @DrDaveBilliards
      @DrDaveBilliards  4 года назад +1

      FYI, they are called "burn marks" because the extreme force and rubbing spin creates a lot of heat in the cloth fibers in contact with the ball, causing them to be damages. Here's an infrared video showing the heat:

    • @cosmicraysshotsintothelight
      @cosmicraysshotsintothelight 4 года назад +1

      @@DrDaveBilliards One can see it in the slow mo, the ball rotation after the rail contact stops as the tip drags across it just *before* the object ball contact. You have to watch it a few times to see it.

    You know, these trick shots are unlikely from a Funny Chinese Video about Chinese people cheated when playing Chinese 8 Ball. You see, they “win” the game by merging the balls into pocket while his opponent is looking away. You should check the funny Chinese billiard video. It’s hilarious. Just type “Funny Chinese Billiard” on RUclips.

      ... not under official pool rules. You are allowed to hit into a frozen ball per the info here:

      And the shot was not a "push" (prolonged contact) based on the "pool" use of the term, per the info here:
