Fun fact: Chris (the actor) has never really had a professional vocal couch teach him before. Like breath control, high notes, etc. He once said in a radio interview that he doesn’t know what his official range is because he never got it tested. And he is in the top three in the entire show for range. Keep an ear out for Give Up The Funk, it’s really him.(and his versatility ain’t bad either.)

Maybe you didn't get the recognition he deserved for singing He and Michelle year in & year out were recipients for the Best lead actress and lead actor in a vote by young adults. And Colfer was the only new actor on Glee, to receive an Emmy.
Of all the song from this episode I wish you would do "How Will I Know" as it was done acapella by Lea, Naya, Chris , and Amber. (Rachel, Santana, Kurt, and Mercedes).

SO EXCITED FOR A KURT SOLO YESSSS (they made him do it in the original key though so it's definitely not his strongest solo, but it's so impressive that he was even able to do it!!)
Edit: if you want to hear more of his chest voice/lower register, you should listen to Not The Boy Next Door or Being Alive!! Those are easily his two best solos!!

@@slodent omg yes, I really wanted to hear his last note and I was so angry when they gave it to Rachel!! So thank god for his solo version existing, that's the one I keep saved!!
Actually they didn't make him do it in the higher key, Chris himself asked to do it in that key. They originally wanted to bring the key down a couple notes but Chris asked to do it in the original key and they let him and he did it beautifully.
Another great song sung by him is "Roses's Turn"
what i love most about this cover is that its done in the orginal key and thats just so impressive to me that Chris can sing so high. Like its not his best solo on the show but it is amazing!

Chris Colfer has such an interesting singing voice. He has such a high pitched voice that typically primarily women can reach comfortably but he’s also able to reach lower more “masculine” sounding notes. It really is a great combination.
He's what's known in music circles as a countertenor. So he has the typical range of a standard tenor, but can reach into soprano territory. And he has no formal training like Amber did. Love his voice!!
I wish he was still singing. He writes children’s books now.

if you want to hear Chris Colfer sing more you need to listen to him sing 'being alive' or 'defying gravity' (but the version of only him singing it and hitting the high note at the end).
A true counter tenor. Often tasked with providing depth to numbers because of his range. Low - opening Give Up the Funk, carries the Accents to Bad Romance, Look at As If We Never Said Goodbye, Being Alive, Happy Days (duet) Le Hit Jazz (especially for the legato), Chris was often singing against the strongest voices (Amber Riley, Lea Michele, Naya Reverie and paired with Darren Criss. Exceptional for a guy voice teachers refused to train because his voice didn’t “change”. Excellent actor and writer.
If you love Kurt/Chris's voice you really should react to his version of "Le Jazz Hot!" (originally performed by Julie Andrews in Victor Victoria) from the Duets episode. His glissando is sooo good!
You gotta hear him sing Blackbird.
He has a true counter tenor voice a unique one and despite some songs don't fit him he is able to embody the emotions of the songs he sings, every song he sang in the show had that emotional feeling

To complete this… I recommend Blaine’s version of “It’s not right”... The same episode... But happens earlier than that performance!!!

it's sad that Chris doesn't sing or even act much at all anymore... I know that he's got like 12 NYT best sellers under his belt as a writer, but he's such a gifted performer...
Hearing someone give Kurt (Chris Colfer) his due credit is amazing! He rocks whenever he can. Undeserved voice just like Quinn's (Dianna Agron). Amazin videos! 💙

Yay! A Kurt song! It’s not my first choice but I still love it and am very excited. I know some people don’t like his rendition of it, but to me it’s in my top 5 solos and 6 or 7 for how he sounds. Plus I’m excited to see a professional opinion on it. Chris never really had a professional couch teach him so for him to still hit the notes and sound as good as he does, in the song’s original key, is still very impressive. Also when you consider how hard of a song it is to sing.
Cool, you've done reaction to Kurt's song. 👌🏻 It's not my first favourite, but I still like it and it's still amazing because he sang this in the original key. He said that this was the hardest song to do because that original key, it's amazing and impressive how he can still hit the notes even it's so high.

Personally, I think the best songs for Chris’s vocal range that he’s done are Rose’s Turn, Being Alive, and Not the Boy Next Door. Those just seems more comfortable for him
I love this solo. Its so amazing and one of my favorite Kurt songs.
Lol been waiting for a Kurt song but this is not my top pick. Don’t judge him too harshly. They made him do this in the original arrangement when they should’ve taken the key down.
Edit: so glad you liked it! People were really harsh when this originally came out. One of my favorite things about Chris is even if it’s not vocally the strongest, he really sells his performances and makes you feel it. It’s a shame he doesn’t like singing live as much anymore.

they didn't make him do this in the original key, Chris himself asked to do it in this key. Ryan Murphy had wanted the key lowered but Chris asked that it be kept to the original key so they let him do it and he killed it!
@@gleefullystruckbyccandtlos do you have a source for that? One that is not just gossip. Every interview I’ve seen or read from Chris, he said that he was terrified to do it in the original key. And then finally, in season 4 Chris started asking them to let him sing in his lower register for some songs.
I don’t know I always thought that Chris was one of the top singers just because of all of his songs he has had to do for the show
@@masonguthrie1257 oh yes I agree. I just meant if a particular song wasn’t his strongest vocally. I feel like everyone on the cast other than maybe amber has songs that weren’t necessarily the best fit for them.
Hey Audrey! Chris colfer just did a live performance of Pure Imagination (which he also covered on Glee) but he sang it in his lower register. I’d love to hear what you think of his voice now and maybe talk about how it’s changed as he’s got older. It’s on RUclips 😊

Rose's Turn is my request for the next Kurt solo. Be sure to find a clip that shows him beginning the song in the school hallway. It shows Kurt's frustration and sadness, feeling that his father doesn't understand or accept him.
As If We Never Said Goodbye is my 2nd Kurt request. A more confident Kurt returns to his old school after spending the previous season at a private school. He expresses his joy at returning to his old classmates through this song.
God I love Kurt but definitely not his strongest. Being Alive, Rose's Turn, As if We Never Said Goodbye and Boy Next Door are absolutely incredible

Exactly like his head voice and especially lighter so his forehead yea. For me personally, when I I head voice it sounds super light and stuff so I try do all my high notes in chest voice despite it not always working for super high notes hehe
No one forces Chris to sing in the original key, Chris is the one want to do it in the original key. Glee's vocal producer Alex Anders already answered this question in 2012/4/27. You can check his twitter account.
They are together at this time but having issues … they weren’t communicating well ( Kurt was about to graduate and Blaine was going to have to stay in school for a year without him )

You should react to "It's Not Right But It's Ok" that Blaine sang in the same episode as this song. Blaine talks for a second before he starts singing and that might partilly epxplain what is going on. Not the full story but enough for it to make sense for the songs.

Okay, I’m officially obsessed with you lol I love how you really feel the music and those notes in your soul. I’ve always had such a deep connection to music, I can feel it with every fiber of my being and I’ve always day dreamed about how cathartic it must be to be able to just belt out a song like that. I absolutely can’t sing ( if I could have any gift in the world, it would that) but I swear I was a singer in a past life.

So many solo songs that Chris sang as Kurt were so fenominal, he is by far my favorite Glee actor and singer. It would be awesome if you could do this with more of his solos, and Darren's solos as well. Love you so much, I watch these videos over and over. I wish I could sing better than I do.
Kurt really didn't get enough appreciation, especially in the later seasons. He's my favorite character and singer and I LOVE all of his solos. I definitely recommend 'Being Alive' , 'As If We Never Said Goodbye', 'I'm The Greatest Star' (also for the sai performance) and 'Not The Boy Next Door', but honestly all of them are incredible!

i was just so shocked that chris was able to sing this song in the ORIGINAL key- like that’s incredibly hard to do, especially when it comes to a whitney houston song
His name is Chris Colfer and if you are unaware of how he got the part of Kurt, on Glee, check out Wikipedia. It is a heartwarming story. In interviews Colfer related that dancing and acting were always much easier for him than singing. Yet in my humble opinion there is only one male singer who can compare to him - The immortal Bing Crosby

If I remember correctly are Kurt and Blaine still together in this epiode, but they ara a little on the rocks, Kurt is preparing for his NYADA audition and Blaine who is still a junior feels a bit left out for a couple of reasons.

Chris Colfer has INCREDIBLE range. He can go higher than many female voices and he can go lower than many male voices too. Can't believe he quit singing. What a waste. :(
I feel you, but the guy is so multi talented, and it's hard to keep doing everything. He's mainly a writer now. 😃 Which doesn't mean he will never sing again.
He did mention that he was singing for voice actor work -- not sure when that project will ever come out.

Yes, Blaine and Kurt are together in high school. Blaine catch Kurt talking to another guy so Blaine told Kurt that Kurt is cheating on Blaine. Kurt thought it was ok to talk to another guy and Blaine didnt! That is why Kurt is singing that song.
