I used Latex, then tried vinyl, which were pretty baggy. The big problem I had with latex was they would just swell up and come apart in the parts washer. Within seconds. Ended up with some pretty good nitrile gloves, lined with aloe. They hole without coming apart too bad and are generally reusable after drying out. The one thing I can't get used to is black gloves. I know, most mechanics nitrile gloves are popular in black, but I couldn't tell when they were dirty or have grease on them. I wasted more shop towels making sure my gloves were clean... Good video topic!
Nitrile all the way! As Dave Decourcey said, you gotta use gloves. He said he never drank or did drugs, but from all the chemicals from not using gloves, he needed a liver transplant. I use them as much as possible. Diamond grips break way too fast for me. I buy the harbor freight 9 mil and pretty much stick with those. Cool topic Mike
Was it proven that not wearing gloves caused this? I use to always think when I was welding in confined spaces back in the 90's before exhausting them and gloves for grease hands was a big thing over last twenty years.
@you build it we destroy itSo my question is why back in the early to mid 90's when shops didn't know this science that they know today or maybe they did but hid it as we've seen with other things in society can't former employees of companies even those long closed go back against their insurance companies they had for workmans comp or liability insurance? Why should the former employee who gets something 20+/- yrs after they worked for that company have to pay for it all out of their pockets or maybe there be a state fund that would take care of deductibles for those like me who've always had insurance since I left high school, went in the army, got out after a few years and worked other jobs that I also had health insurance at. It's like the people that do manual labor that pays significantly less depending on job, etc abuse their bodies for a companies profit and it's shown that the toll it takes on a body don't appear till anywhere from a few to 10, 20, 30+ or more years later but by then it's always to late. They should have work comp funds or other type of funds set up for this. We as employees back then weren't told that " hey you're working around stuff that'll probably kill you but we just wanted to let you know". They use statues of limitations on this stuff as their way of bailing out and not having to cover. The lawyers for the tobacco companies did good. Maybe the mechanics, welders (from inside gas/propane tankers) should band together, get lawyers and if anything make it safe for the future of America because as we know we'd get pennies on the dollar anyways as the lawyers are just greedy bastards. Don't believe that then why do half of them become politicians? Because they want something for nothing, they don't want to work just another form of welfare for the wealthy. They buy their work for banks, insurance companies, law firms, doctors offices, doctors, and other quote on quote professional careers. Don't see any butt wipers, mechanics, truck drivers, waitresses, bartenders, dishwashers up there in DC living like fat cats. it's all about who you know and probably sometimes who you blow that determines who makes it to DC. What I don't get is why an 83 year-old from California, Nancy Pelosi isn't in retirement living out her Glory Days with her family rather than wanting to be soul in charge of things. We need people up there that are current with today's technology, today's problems going on in America and other things that understand what needs to be done and can relate to what's going on because maybe they've been there rather than somebody who's grown up with a silver spoon in their mouth.
I really don't have a preference, as long as they are thick enough. But I did recently buy some boxes of latex gloves, after the nitrile ones I used got discontinued. I did find that the latex ones didn't break as much as the nitrile ones. Also, they do seem to hold up well to carburetor cleaner.
Really good video. Never really payed attention to the gloves I use, although I do agree the nitrile gloves do tear pretty bad. Plus the latex gloves are better for blowing up into udders.
You touch on all the mechanic topics. great content. When I first came across your vids, I was like who is this claiming to be the flat rate master, after watching a lot of your vids, I must say the title is pretty accurate. I have personally been a tech for 15 years.
I prefer latex over nitrile, however latex are not rated for chemical resistance. As far as a safety standpoint latex will absorb chemicals from automotive chemicals and pass them through to your skin. Your hands may appear clean but that doesn’t mean trey are protected. For this reason many larger dealership chains that have health and safety people require and provide nitrile gloves and disallow the use of latex gloves.
Vegetable oil then hand soap to get the veg oil off. Very amazing. Just tried for the first time 2night. Grease and aluminum on hands bad. Now they just like I was born and no smell of aluminum
I only wear gloves in the winter time because in the summer here in South East Louisiana my hands sweat way to much , if it wasn't for that reason I would wear them year around. I do use the nitrile but I think I will use the latex also when not around during chemicals. Good topic!
I prefer the nitrile, but they only come as big as xxl and my hands are a little bigger than that. I keep a small bottle of baby powder to dust my hands and it helps a lot for sliding them on. Also helps for reusing them
be careful when using powder as people have allergies to powder and respiratory issues, powder can contaminate surface and makes it hard for a person with allergies. I know it's not latex but be safe out there.
how about palm coated re-usable gloves? I use them to keep my hands clean when I have a busy day so I can take em off, hop in a car and drive, then put them back on unlike rubber gloves that are impossible to put on with sweat... same with the pandemic the shop doesn't supply gloves to us anymore.
I just understand that gloves are meant to protect from harm. Working without gloves has made my hand dried and crack due the amount of chemical degradation. My dad work was a painter for years. He always used that orange soap. But I understand our hands and or body has oil that can cause it to degrade over time.
Black Mamba gloves super tough, like a thin second skin. Easy to re-use if you're into that. I don't really use anything else because most of the other stuff just tears fairly quick. 👍
if u want to buy latex gloves, make sure it made in Malaysia. because they have a high strict standard of quality before exporting, like NIOSH for face mask too..
I personally prefer nitrile because I find the latex gloves are very sticky and I find that uncomfortable but we all have preferences with all things in that job but I do agree on the durability front
Coming from a pizza shop, EVERYONE prefers Nitrile. When you stretch dough, latex has far less felt feedback and therefore you end up putting holes in dough because your hands and fingers lost sensutivity. Basically your hands feel numbed. People also prefer the "fit", having a loose latex glove flop and slide underneath your hands is frustrating to say the least. Ladles and other items are easier to grip as well. Lastly, Nitrile gloves are durable, even when pressing out dough with tremendous force they don't break. I HATE, latex gloves, and so did all of my fellow pizza makers.
latex is horrible for allergies and can actually develop allergies, once exposed, no going going back. Some can be allergic straight away, some won't and others might have a sensitivity.
Why are we using gloves to make pizza, no matter where you put your hands, before you make the pizza, it's getting cooked in the oven lol. Do people actually care about this?
I always use diamond grip latex gloves for my DIY work. Just be careful. Early in the pandemic the supply was short and I bought some from eBay. When they arrived I could tell by the color they were sitting in the shelf too long and many of those didn't last as long.
I remember when I started wrenching it was frown upon to wear them.. Then I started dating them mechanic hands were not a selling point on the ladies . Wore them and next thing you know the whole shop started also.
pelotas56 True! Didn’t have gloves when I started. (1975) I was working on heavy stuff then and it was impossible to get your hands totally clean, especially under your nails. Classy ladies don’t like that!
Nitrile for me. Hate the sticky feel and dissolving in the presence of a whif of oil or fuel with the latex. That and after wearing latex for a couple years (Because that's all my current employer buys) I have developed a skin reaction to latex, if my hands sweat in them they start to burn.
Kind of defeats the purpose of protection from harsh chemicals on your hands if you’re just gonna put them directly in your mouth to blow them up for reuse. I hardly ever reuse gloves. They’re available at harbor freight for pennies and are pretty high quality as far as nitrile goes. Can’t speak on latex as they’re too thin and my experience would rip when I was putting them on first use
I think every shop should be required by law to provide gloves as PPE. Read any fluid container in a shop and they all say "prolonged exposure can cause cancer"
9 out of 10 (fill in blank) prefer latex. In all seriousness, some things I don’t like about nitrile: flimsy, hard to get back on, and really hard to get anti-seize off.
I work in quality control and I reuse my nitrle gloves sometimes they last more than one shift. I don't blow into my gloves I just get as much air in there and close it off to push the fingers back out.
The thing that this overlooks: reusing latex gloves is a health hazard- your hands sweating in pair of gloves breeds all sorts of nasty bacteria (MRSA, E. Coli, etc.) that can leave you in a world of hurt if you're not careful.
both latex and nitriile have a better feel than vinyl. i really rate gripster skins, usually last six jobs, even though they are nitrile they dont rip open once torn unlike normal nitrile. come in orange so look like a pair of marigolds to the untrained eye. just to add, even while wearing gloves use barrier cream, adds as a layer of extra protection.
I honestly prefer nitrile, just because that's what I've always used. Also in my case I purchase my own gloves, the shop supplies gloves for techs, but they aren't the best, they tear too much, so I just use what I like. My favorite brands are Black Lightning and TouchNtough by Ancel (the teal ones). I will use latex if I'm having a problem tearing gloves on that particular job.

Hi, Diamond Gloves here. We're one of the fastest growing disposable gloves companies nationwide. Recently we came out a new product Orange Nitrile Glove, it provides 30% more grip than your typical textured gloves under the most challenging situations, especially in wet slippery conditions where not losing your grip is critical.
I gotta say there's an environmental aspect to this: Reusing gloves is a great way to get less waste but honestly: Why wear them at all when you put them off turning them inside out and then wear them again? Then that's even worse than not wearing them at all because 1.) you were touching a lot more stuff with than you would've without gloves and 2.) over the long period of time you are wearing your gloves the second time your skin will be in direct contact with the components on the glove whereas if you just touch something with your fingertip without a glove your wrist will be fine.
nitrite isn't as tough and way more expensive than latex you get very little amount of pairs for triple the money. people I know are allergic to latex sadly but thankfully im not. I can pay pennies with lots of latex gloves in a box and they last okay. wish disposable gloves would last a bit longer tho I use 3 pairs of latex gloves per day.
I use gloveworx. Great gloves, dimples, good feel and can go all day working on cars. I even use paper towels to wipe them if they get dirty. I like the bright orange gloves I get. I get them from Amazon unless I happen to swing by where my buddy works at Kenworth and he hands me a extra box or two he's accumulated.
dangerous to have a powdered gloves such as talc or cornstarch. The reason is - worst case is allergies, wound inflammation, respiratory issues and contamination.
I can’t stand it when people just grab one glove that drives me insane and bothers me tremendously I am still in tech school too and they are making us wear the nitrile ones I prefer either one luckily nobody at my shop is allergic to latex
Hey man thank you for the videos. Friday I co in to have a tumor removed from my mind to to I can not read any more. Plus another tumor in the back of my mind they cannot remove. My wrenching days are probably over unless the guys are gots. Thank you for the videos.
been wearing gloves more and more now! especially with changing oil and filters and such! theres no way to change them without getting your hands full of fluid! haha i like the content of your videos more and more! even though i am not a car guy or a flat rate guy but you got good things to say! i am a hourly truck guy! but you got good things to say man! cheers!
because it's a natural rubber and it would smell because it would either have powder or a really high quality NRL. I wish latex was banned due to allergies, waste and environmental issues.
Great video thanks brother. I think we already had something like this subject. I am one of the older people that never used gloves. I am glad you do and most places require you do. The wores part of not using them is the chemical reaction to your body. Liver disease kidney disease and nervous system trouble. Keep up the great work see you in the next video thanks again brother
I Hate Them all. My Hands Sweat like Hell in them i do keep a box of Nitrile For Nasty Jobs & in Nasty Cars. I wear Mechanix Impact Fingerless for Arthritis
The only thing I don't like
about gloves is the idiot that throws them on the ground instead of trash can.

Great demo! So true about the tear factor!
That's because Nitrile was designed to tear, vs. puncture so that in medical applications it is completely obvious that the glove has failed.

latex makes your hands smell like rubber for the rest of the day.
because it's a natural rubber and it would smell because it would either have powder or a really high quality NRL. I wish latex was banned due to allergies, waste and environmental issues.
Lol. That's not a bad thing! 😎 I love the smell of rubber. 😁
I hate the way latex gloves feel. The Nitrile gloves feel way more comfortable
Some reason i like my diamond grips
Helpful . Thank you.
You get the wrong nitrile gloves. I get at least 7 days use out of 1 pair of nitrile gloves. I work on buses. No excuse.
Love it but I only use latex for oily jobs most of the time I wear gloves that F1 techs use. I don’t want to brand name. You are the bedt🤣👍
Great video… great info
take off inside out then put them back on. wtf is the point of wearing gloves?
Great video thanks brother. I think we already had something like this subject. I am one of the older people that never used gloves. I am glad you do and most places require you do. The wores part of not using them is the chemical reaction to your body. Liver disease kidney disease and nervous system trouble. Keep up the great work see you in the next video thanks again brother
Thanks 👍
This video must be a joke the nitrile gloves black gloves are the best gloves out there now compare to latex gloves.
Very good video. Thumbs up.
White gloves latex are the best!!! :)
TOTALLY agree with you!!! 😎 Besides nitrile gloves being more chemical resistant, Latex gloves are the BEST!!! 😁 Great video! 😊
Fine if you are not allergic to all latex products as I am.
